I always tell my GF that I will do it someday, just not this someday.

She sounds patient like my wife.

One other task on her barn is to drill a few holes in a I beam for a brace for the gable end. Brace is “temporarily “ held in place with c clamps.
Probably will have to cut them off.

When the C clamps in a temporary fix become so rusted that they are inoperable, it is no longer a temporary fix and you can move that particular fix to the permanent column of your honey do list.

Don’t think that will pass with my wife. They’ve been there since 04, she don’t miss a opportunity to remind me!:lol_hitti

Tell her Mac says 20 years is permanent :)

I read her your reply, she gave me this look, I don’t really care to recreate it!:lol_hitti

What happened is there were angles welded to the ibeam, perfect for attaching short braces to the gable truss., but no, some idiot set beam wrong direction.

All I need to do is drill a handful of holes, bolt in angles and I’m done.

Another reason I don’t want to be too quick in doing it, it’ll attract attention to the temporary pvc pipe downspout.

Well I guess I brought in this hurricane.
I started servicing my generator a few weeks ago. It’s a 10k military surplus unit with only 14 hrs, built in 2007. The auction company does a quick run though to get units running for auction. The fuel tank was full but pretty gummed up from previous fuel drying out while in storage.

So my simple service job has turned into replacing the gauge sensor, pulling the filler neck and cleaning the glue like residue.

Nice roomy area to work on top of tank.

At least the fill opening is big enough to stick my arm into to clean tank.

Now to see what will cut the old diesel residue. I know fresh diesel doesn’t touch it.

Well, another addition to the shop.
Was searching for lot smaller items when I came across this mill. Been thinking about getting one someday and someday presented itself.

I came across it a day after I was in the center of the state for work, about 3 hours from home, figures. Talk with the guy and it just perked my interest more.

It’s a Enco 100-1525, a 8”x36” mill. It’s set up with a single phase motor, power feed on x, and sits on a nice heavy duty base with casters. I can push it around fairly easy.

All bundled up for trip home.
d3ac2ce93676c1cbce592059a43b4485.jpg
As I was traveling for work, it had to spend its first night in a hotel parking lot. I tried to place it the best a could in the parking space to make it as difficult for someone to mess with. The uhaul trailers have a leaf spring for tailgate assist and it hangs down and keeps from backing trailer wheels up the curb.
ca04183e99293af5528a016a50dd0ddb.jpg
So, backed trailer with bracket tight on curb, chained tongue to hitch and called it good. My logic was the bracket jammed on curb would make it real hard to pull off truck hitch.

Here it is rigged up and ready to be lifted off trailer.

My electric hoist is rated for 1,000 lbs. best I could research on the mill weight was 1,600-1,800 lbs. The steel frame for my shop porch roof is calculated at a 1,000 lbs working load.

The hoist picked it up but i don’t want to do anymore than that.

Here it is sitting in the caster base.
2e90fc9c720005e19d7875185038a051.jpg

The base was built with minimum height above the floor, keeping it nice and low. I can push mill around with ease.
87e06ba3ee4cb396b5819a8b37d578a7.jpg

And with the motor on top. We swung it 180° to make it less too heavy.
54569b0b79c91bff000ac0895d09984f.jpg

I’ll post up some better pics soon.

Now I need to tool up. I already have some leads on some parts for it.

It did come with a pretty hefty vise.

Nice score on the Enco mill.

I had actually looked for one of those used a few years back when I was looking to upgrade. They were Taiwanese made and pretty good quality but most of all I liked the smaller footprint as I was tight for space and needed a smaller mill. These were like a 2/3 size Bridgeport and when they were made that was their selling point.

Looks to be in fair condition and should serve you well once cleaned up as long as the ways are in good shape, which I'm sure you've already checked before purchasing.

That is sweet, I like the color too.

Thanks. What I like the most about it is it came out of working shop and I basically get to use right away.

Nice score!

The vice looks like a Kurt or Kurt-style on a swivel base. That will be handy.

I looked other night, but not real hard, but agree on the likeness of a Kurt.

Nice score on the Enco mill.

I was real happy when I first seen the size of it, nice and compact like you said. It's in really good shape, I just need to figuire our the lube for it and go.

Thanks, I think I'm done for a while. But you remind me of another buy I forgot to post. See below.:lol_hitti

I forgot to post this up. Been watching for a Baldor buffer for a while and finally one popped up locally.
IMG_2690.jpg

It’s a 3/4 HP and just has the Baldor sweetness when it runs.

Now I can buff (or screw up) things a lot faster.

Craig, I think that's the perfect size buffer motor. Just keep it away from any windows. When one of those almost finished little parts takes off it's like a bullet. Even when I use the front lower quarter of the wheel there's a good chance the bullet will ricochet and hit the most expensive pane in the shop.

Nice mill Craig.
I didn't see an oiler on it so if you see anything that looks like a zirc fitting, DO NOT PUT GREASE IN IT. Those fittings are for way oil.

Now you have to make a tooling shopping list with must haves and nice to haves. If you need help I'd be glad to help you spend your money, I hope you have lots of it.

I'm jonesin for a nice Baldor buffer like that.

Mac,
It has a oil lube system with a little pump. I’ve also read that this Oiler doesn’t lube a screw on the knee, I don’t know where exactly, but will dig in.

Thanks for the heads up on the zirt, but I learned about that on my first lathe.

Your correct about the tooling, been browsing eBay for some of it, new old stock US tools. It did come with a J8 adapter for a chuck, so I can at least put a drill bit in it.:lol_hitti

Thanks for stopping in.

Ok, here’s some more additions I picked for the shop.
I really wasn’t planning on going Ho’ing, but the FB post just kept pulling me in. A lathe was for sale, but I was more interested in the accessories around it. Looking for tooling for the mill.
I spotted the rotary table, but didn’t think he’d sell because he already told me he was keeping the mill. I asked and he said sure.
I pulled it down and set it on the bench to look over. It’s a Palmgreen and he said $50.
I was trying not to show my excitement!

b10d266081783298509e372c35585c47.jpg
Right before making the deal for the table, I bought this vise for $15. It’s also a Palmgreen.
bc5f36935019570a1a58e897a360e1c6.jpg
Since I added a mill to the shop, I need a new machinists chest right?
60f25dcd7652efdb3726a698deb1c8a7.jpg
He also had a blast cabinet, kinda rough, but I liked the blower and cyclone set up on it.
I have a blast cabinet, but just a cabinet that needs a bit to get it going.
This one needs less of a bit to get it going.

So it’s time to start listing some things as I’m just outta room.

It was a hour one way, but worth the trip.

Strouty, he’s kinda has the same plan. Sell 2 tool boxes, buy a tool box. Sell some hand tools, bring home a big blast cabinet. [emoji16]

OK, finally some action in the shop other than dragging home stuff.
I took the three days off to see what I could get accomplished.

Buying the mill pushed another modification to the layout.

Started by clearing the corner where mill goes, moved the blast cabinet that I’m selling and also the press I’ve had for a while, it’s likely going to my son.

After getting everything out, there’s a old oil spill I wanted to get cleaned. During Hurricane Irma, the shop had 5” of water in it, and a jug of oil spilled creating a nice little mess.

I used Zep purple degreaser, it works pretty good, scrubbed it in and took the surface cleaner on my pressure washer to it.

736b7c1824f00c9c51b272f3ea6f0e2f.jpg

I know it still looks dirty, but it’s clean compared to before. I can see the barefoot prints left by my daughter on the day we poured the concrete!!!

Ok, here’s some here’s my disaster of a shop before moving anything.

Like playing that game called “parking lot”, it honestly doesn’t look too bad, you can still walk around.

I have never been one to care about oil stains, I will clean them so it isn’t slick, but not interested in trying to make it look too good.
