Got all the slats for the backrest bent and started to bolt the seat boards to the frame.

Harley,
I'm thinking I'll fit flat bars to the under side of the seat, on the outer edges and through bolt them, with the same screws as the center.

With the seat back having less strain on it, I'm thinking some dowel pins cut from tig wire would be a viable option.

Seat and backrest all rough fit.
Started beveling the edges.
Still need to figure out how to shape the back rest.

Can you cut a slit down the end of the back boards on each side and insert a metal stabilizer?

While it is certainly possible, it would be tricky fitting the metal spline, in that it would need bent 2 degrees +/- at each slat intersection.

I'm thinking that it may be easier to fit the the bar to the back side and less prone to splitting.

Got all the edges beveled and crowned the top slat.
Thought about cutting some shape in the backrest, but decided to leave it as a simple rectangle with the top and bottom radiused.

Also got a flat bars attached on the underside of the seat.
It straightened the outer edges out nicely.

The bars on the seat worked well enough, to use the same method, on the backrest.

Pulled all the seat slats, trimmed them to length and beveled the ends.
They are about ready for a coat of oil.

Also got the armrests tacked off.
I tried to use the ones I had previously made, but they just did not look right to my eye.
So I cut them up and came up with this.

Armrests welded out and worked on inlaying a stone in the cap of the spine.
Never tried it before, I'll be surprised if I can do it without busting the stone.

Got Santa's shop opened up, for the season.

One of my daughters sent me a pic of a tensegrity table, which is a table that appears to be floating in air.

My thought is to use the same principal for a chair.
So, after some research, a foot of pencil lead and a yard of eraser, got the base cut up and welded.

A stone inlay? Now you’re just showing off! How did you cut the profile? I am thinking plasma cutter.

Drilled a couple starter holes, then rough cut with jig saw and finish shaped with a carbide burr.

Got the steel oiled and cut some plastic softeners for the feet, to keep from chewing up the flooring.

Finished up the spine cap, with the stone inlay.
Forgot to take a pic, but the stone is held in place with a couple straps tacked on the backside.
I was afraid of heat shocking the stone and busting it, so I went slow on the welding, with a bunch of stops to spray everything with water, to keep things cool.

I was really tickled not to bust it!

Cut and tacked the permanent chain tension pins.

On the home stretch now, with milling the armrest oak and final assembly being the last of it.

Got her done!
Pleased with the function and comfort of it.
As to the aesthetics, it is a bit of a hodgepodge, but that's alright.
From some angles it makes me think of some sort of medieval torture device!

Not as much as I would have thought and the movement is more rotational than to and fro or gee and haw
It also depends on how much preload on the center chain, I have it just snugged and get a few degrees of movement.

It came out great Royce. I noticed the weld seam follow the seams in the slats. Excellent execution as usual.
