No pics,
but I have two,
a little oiless PortaCable Pancake by the garage door hooked to a HF hose reel for filling tires quick,

and a single stage Devilbiss 6hp 60g up on a platform at the back of the garage for the real work.
That one feeds another HF hose reel hanging from the center of the garage ceiling.

Any recommendations on a water separator or filter system?

I recently purchased the Harbor Freight cabinet and I think I'm suffering from water issues.... I currently don't have any water or filter system on my 3.7HP 60 gal Lowes air compressor.

I have been looking at some of the Tsunami filters, but curious if they are worth the money... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tsunami-1-2....c100005.m1851

Any other recommendations??

I use Tsunami products on my compressor, they work great, very happy with them.
Also no affiliation.

Here's my new addition. I was going to build a compressor for my shop and already had a nice heavy 60 gallon horizontal tank and a Webster 5hp compressor pump and near new Baldor 5hp farm duty motor I got real cheap.

Then as luck would have it I stumbled onto this. It's an 80 gallon vertical tank Techquip compressor. It has an Italian Chinook K-30 pump (Same as a Rolair K-30) and had a 5HP 3 phase motor on it when I picked it up. Got it for $300. He had it listed for $350 and I would have gladly paid it but tried an offer to see what he'd say and he said sure.

I apparently called after it was listed for 3 minutes. He had 30 calls after me and I was only 15-20 minutes getting to his place to pick it up.

I sold the 3 phase pump for $100 and am going to use my near new Baldor single phase 5HP motor on it. Already got the tank mounted and connected and the pump is now mounted (no pictures of that). Just need to install my new capacitors in my motor (so I know they are new) and add the magnetic starter I picked up, fill it with oil and I'm good to go. Made a nice vibration damper platform as well. This also doubles to allow my Kaeser auto drain to fit underneath.

I had to buy a new intake gasket ($6) that he told me it needed and an oil breather (my bad on that one:wtf:. Broke it carrying the pump to the garage from the truck...another $15). Considering these compressors up here run $1850+tx I think I scored pretty good.

Hey all,

Could anyone recommend a way to get a Quincy QT5 into an area
that will just fit height wise? Problem is it has to go up & over a 3" curb
and drop down about 1"~1-1/2" Sort of like scaling a small wall.
No, cannot bust the curb, landlord.
Above is the upper shelf area and thats loaded w/ boxes
and probably wont support lifting that weight.
The QT5 weighs what 450+. Wont fit with pallet, pallet is busted also.
What could I do to get it lifted a few inches and moved into place.
Its the only spot in 1 car garage I can place it. All else is taken.
Forklift, Pallet jack & engine hoist wont work.
Is there a bear hug type doohickey I could get/use?
That seems the most feasible way to lift it.

Thanks

Large plate two wheel dolly and a couple ratchet straps. You should be able to rent one easy enough. Just be careful cause as you know it’s very top heavy. Get help. Otherwise you could take it apart to move it then reassemble in place.

You could disassemble the pump and motor from the tank. I did that with my 80 gallon compressor just to make it easier transport and get it into place.

Good luck!

Yeah, if you are going to attempt moving it yourself I would remove the pump & motor from the tank... Better to take longer to get it done than to have it tip and break...

To get over the humps and such build smaller steps out of scrap pieces of wood.

I got ya... isnt the pump itself like 300lbs? Thats a drop heading there.

I didnt get the QT yet, few weeks.
It has 3 legs.... I would have to get it on another platform and I guess
roll it on 1/4"~1/2" rods ?

I'll make a platform to compensate the 1-1/2" drop (level out)
Make a long ramp and push easy with rods underneath... no?

dk... no forklift, besides it wouldnt fit thru the doors.

If you take the pump & motor off, the tank itself shouldn't be too bad, more bulk than weight. A two wheel dolly or similar would probably work fine, use some ratchet straps to hold it on.

QT5 pump says shipping weight of 140 lbs... A second set of hands would probably go a long way to prevent damage...

You do NOT want to be rolling that compressor around on ANY angle with the pump & motor on, it is very top heavy and once it goes past the center of gravity there will be no stopping it.

If you're reasonably strong and have another to help, you could use an APPLIANCE dolly, not to be confused with a standard dolly. An appliance dolly has the 'stair climber' roller belts to go over obstacles along with two ratchet straps to secure the load to the dolly.
I helped one of my employees move an 80 gal. Saylor-Beall VT-735-80 with an appliance dolly and it's heavier than yours. It wasn't bad at all with 2 of us manning the dolly.

I would third the pull it apart option. The powermate my brother and I put in his garage was about 100lb lighter but was not bad at all with two people and the parts off. His pump was much lighter at something like 60lb vs 140lb but with two people, some straps and a dolly moving the parts shouldn't be hard. The tank could be carried by the two of us with reasonable effort.

ok, so if taken apart it's just easy pieces. At my job we have an
80 gallon QT5 and its a little different by the pump
but I see what you guys are saying. Pump I guess will
be a chore.

Looks to be fun. But should be easier to put hockey pucks on.

OK Thanks all

I moved my 80 Gallon Techquip by taking it apart. It was way easier. Not worth taking a chance of tipping it and breaking a piece off the pump or beating up the motor. I moved mine by myself by walking the tank into place (without the motor it is manageable) and the pump was lighter though. My baldor motor weighs 100lbs and it was pain in the a$$ to carry to the garage and lift up onto the tank. (was too stubborn to put together my engine hoist...wanted it done right now)

I also made a platform for mine for vibration and just "walked the tank up onto the platform....it wasn't too difficult...just don't try to tip it too far as stated or it will want to keep going.

I have seen a couple of posts that slam PVC compressor plumbing. What is wrong with using PVC. Cheap, versatile and long lasting.
Any comments?

The failure mode is fracture, under pressure= explosion and it can be compromised internally by some compressor oils. I'll be using PEX when I move as the folks at PEX use it in their plant and it has been reliable (so I'm told) thus far.

It is very loud when it lets loose. I had one blow at a connection point in my old basement shop. Scared the P**** out of me until I figured out what happened :D

Lol...

How about this? Maybe make the qtr-circle a lil
more ovalish. Get it to a point where you can have wheels
on the back side and not affect oil.
Chock it where you need to drop if specific location required.
Either sell the frame dolly liftamajiggie or burn it.

I built a small outdoor shed up against the far wall to house the compressor. I was finding it tedious to have to go to the shed, unlock door, and power on the compressor every time I wanted to use it. I found the 220V remote dust collector switch made by JET and sold on Amazon. Works great from anywhere in the garage, Line of sight not needed.

You could probably put one of these in-line after the panel box if you don't want something fancy:

They're rated for such usage.

Someone help me. I tried searching for compressors being
outside in the cold weather. Looking for AC's that would go inside
a shed protected from elements, but not cold NY/LI weather.
Most likely not advisable but what the hey.

Any posts/search terms to use to find such topics?

Thanks
