FrankLee you made my day today!!! The drill chuck came today and not only does it fit, it is in beautiful condition, thank you! The little Companion DP isn't in as nice of condition as the chuck, but I'm more about being able to use it. Doing little happy dances. Thank you so much again. I'd given up. I've attached a few pics.

Yeah, it cleaned up beautifully and it looks great on your machine!
It's weird how things just pop-up sometimes. I found that chuck in the drawer of the stand that came with dp#99. I remembered someone here needed it and it took me a few minutes to find who.

I got another head/table lift, this one with quite a bit of the original paint left. I will not be repainting this one, only cleaning the gears out and greasing.

It was literally sheer dumb luck. A botched search resulted in an atlas head and table lift..

I think it has a variable speed motor as well, but seems steep to me also.

Normally I would agree, but I believe a table lift just went on eBay not long ago for about $650 if memory serves. I used to think it was crazy when the going rate was $400-ish, but dang....
Glad I have one. I can't afford one anymore at today's prices.

That table lift on eBay started at $700, after about a week hit $650, and as soon as a special offer was made by the owner to all the "watchers" of $600 it was snapped up. So the going rate for an Atlas head and table lift is $600+.
The entire drill press was not painted but rather powder coated. The variable speed motor was about a year old. Every part of it was polished and clean and the mobile base was included in the deal. I had offered $700, which is the amount he (alluded to) accepted from the buyer 5 minutes before me. I had calculated I would have made a bare minimum of $300 on the deal, or more depending on the brand/power of that VS motor. Newport Coast is also one of the most affluent areas to live in the entire country, so I assume no expense was spared on that thing.
I'm still happily plugging along scooping up $50-$250 Craftsman, Delta, Walker Turner drill presses and flipping them or parting them out, but on the occasion that something like that comes up, I will throw my hat in the ring.

As a bottom feeder I doubt I would have given it a 2nd look. But, apparently, those that buy and sell and flip these tools and parts as a little cottage industry that kind of crazy value is there for some things.
Before I would ever spend $700 on any Craftsman part like that I would buy a running 17" classic Delta drill press instead.
All of that said, these parts and accessories have value and guys want them. Look at the Craftsman/Atlas metal lathe accessories including a steady rest, follow rest, milling attachment, taper attachment, tool holder, etc. Downright silly. Every day people pay the ebay price. Hell, how else do we know what the asking price should start at other than checking the sold listings.
If you want that Craftsman raise/lower mechanism and the only one you have seen available in the past 6 month or year you got to pay the price.
BTW, I paid some silly money for 6" metal lathe attachments. That money came from parting out a Craftsman/double A products lathe.
Liking old tools and wanting things has a cost.

Thanks Hoorn. I'm slowly but surely getting better with motors. The motor band was beyond saving so I made a new one out of aluminum. I wish the data plate would have cleaned up better. I've figured out red paint on these things comes off MUCH easier than black paint. I stopped cleaning it at the first sign of red coming off. I have a nearly pristine data plate from 49 that I considered using on this motor but decided to stick with the 47 plate. I clear coated it and consider it a homage to how nasty this machine was when I got it. I get rivets from Hansen Rivets, I'm attaching a pic of the rivets I use. I always deal with them over the phone as they're very helpful with supplying me with exactly what I need. I also sourced the anvil and punch required to install them from Hansen. The rivets pictured work great for motor data plates as well as logo badges on tool boxes.
Smokes: I just came in from working on it. You guilted me into pulling out some Circle P raised panel wrenches to work on it tonight!
JoCoSawdust - Your motor band looks awesome. How did you get the alternating polished and subdued stripes on the motor band?

I recently got a Vari-Slo attachment. The curved arm link is egg-shaped like many others. I am looking for a replacement. I PM'ed oldironowner and asked about his and did not get a reply yet. Has anyone bought one of his or made their own? I need helpLike this?

I dont know if he sold any of those... I believe he posted about wanting to do some final testing on his parts before offering them for sale..... I don't know if they were ever offered for sale ? Haven't seen him post in a while but maybe I missed it?

Sub, you are right. There is a market for it and people will pay that price. I have noticed in my area in general there has been quite a resurgence in buying older american-made tools.
Even more shocking is the "original in box mortise attachment" for a 100/150 on ebay currently with a buy it now price of $450. I personally think he's dreaming to ask that much for that type of attachment, but I will definitely be curious to see what he gets for that.
Some guys are so passionate about "period correct" that money is no object.. I used to think it was just among the Walker Turner guys, but it's basically everybody. There are just as many Atlas, Craftsman, Delta guys that need every bolt to be "from the correct era". Don't even get me started on Buffalo guys!
Just think, somewhere there is someone that will see that mortise attachment price and look at the one in their junk drawer and believe, well that is what they sell for. World, get ready for a bunch of $500 mortise attachments to show up on eBay and CL.
I like the old stuff. A lot. True enough, I have a lot of old stuff that I want. That said, I try to never get drawn into the silliness.
As far as period correct, that is an "it depends" situation. It depends on what the machine was like when I brought it home. There are so many ways to repair these old tools from simple repair, to disassembly, clean and reassembly, to functional repair, to parts machines, to restoration to a like new condition to a show car like restoration and on and on and everything in between. Depends on who you ask what any of that all means. Personally, I am big on the kiss principal. Where I can, I do, Where I can't, I don't. I don't sweat the small stuff.
Anyway, it's all good.

Thanks smokeshow69, that's what I read also. I thought maybe I missed something and I even checked the classified to see if he was selling there. Oh well, I'll try to figure out a reasonable fix/replacement. It may take a while.

Any idea where I can source a spindle or quill assembly for a gen 4 Emerson (that’s to this thread for educating me that’s what I needed)? I have a Craftsman 113.21371 15.5” and the last couple inches of the spindle are bent. Only finding older 100/150 parts on eBay. Thanks for the help and learning!

Ebay is the likely option, but you may need to find a donor machine. Don't rule out a 2nd-gen Emerson machine. Check this post: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8820538

Yup. That's the way I did it as well. For the first band I did, I taped the stripes off one by one using 1/8" pin striping tape. I called my much smarter than me wife into action for the next one. She made a one piece decal that was scored every 1/8th inch on her witchcraft machine. That made it MUCH simpler, quicker and accurate. That'll be my go-to for future motor bands.

Figure I'd break the ice here as it's been over a week since the last post. I bought this 100 today, motor is marked 1949. Has the Atlas lift and Vari-slo. Owner wanted $180 which I gladly paid, and he asked me if I wanted to buy a "Craftsman style vise". He showed me a Reed 104 1/2R that he wanted $80 for, I gladly paid that also.
The Atlas lift has much of the original paint left. I took the lift partially apart and soaked it with penetrant as it was pretty stiff.

Thank you. Since March 25th it's my third lift and second V-S.
It's my fourth 100/150, but I've had a W-T branded Craftsman, Atlas Craftsmann, six Delta 220s and two W-T 900s since last autumn. I've been very persistent. But an obvious benefit is being "mostly retired" so I'm able to pick up most machines within the hour. In most cases I've found, sellers are more concerned with "get it now" than even higher offers.
Will be a challenge to get everything off. Although in very good condition, the lift collars are really frozen on that column.

Thank you, I agree on the Reeds. I've had the 3", 4" and still have the 5" "Reedsman" vise, and my new favorite, a 1942 204R with original WWII Defense Plant Corporation tag from the Fisher Aviation Building in Ohio.

Just to get it off my chest now I am NOT fond of the new changes whatsoever. I don't even know where to begin. Change is not always bad but this new format is / was totally unnecessary. I guess we're all "New members" again..

Well, for the most part, it looks like the Craftsman Drill Press thread made it through the metamorphosis. There are probably a few things I need to go back through and clean-up... youtube videos for one, font sizes and color changes.
The learning curve may be larger than advertised, but we'll get there. I need to look at preferences yet and try to tweak things there.
In the mean time, I picked up DP#100 yesterday. It's a very nice Emerson Craftsman 150, model 113.24511. It should clean up beautifully!

DP#100 was dismantled yesterday. Many internal parts are now cleaned... just the quill/spindle assembly and the chuck to go. I'll get the cast iron components to the self car wash on Monday and scrub them with Grez-Off.
This is a '66 machine and the chrome has the same popcorn effect that JoCoSawdust described above.

Except for a new belt, DP#100 is complete.

That just amazes me Hoorn. I've only had a chance at one Atlas lift since I've been looking. It was on an Atlas made machine that included the slow speed pulley and the spindle cap. Listed at 125. I was out of town and offered the guy double his asking price if he'd hold it 2 days. No dice. Haven't seen one since.
Yeah I'm not thrilled with the changes but then I'm never thrilled with change. I'm a complete Luddite when it comes to technology. Can't complain as I'm using the fruits of somebody else's work and it doesn't cost me a dime so.....I'll adapt sooner or later.
I was hoping to post an array of pics of the 100 I just finished but I'll be happy if I can squeeze just one on here. This was a fun project, my first post war KS DP. I'm trying to focus my collection on pre-war stuff but my son in law is putting together a 50's era shop so I can dabble in the KS stuff through him. This goes to his shop tomorrow. EDIT: Andddd...the pic didn't work. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

Lift 1: I live in an LA suburb, was going to San Diego super early next day as my daughter had just bought a house there. Night before I check SD CL "just in case". I see a new post of a mint 100 for $100 that was obviously a pic seller had grabbed from internet. His ad said, "am selling a Craftsman drill press that looks like this one, this isn't it". I think most people figured scam (and I was 99% sure it was myself) but I emailed him anyway and asked for an actual pic. He sent me back an Atlas/Craftsman will full pulley cover, MSA pulley and the lift. I immediately said I'll take it, see you as early as possible -and I was there at 8am.
Lift 2: Cruising through MP and forgot to switch to "Local only" so I'm getting national results. See a power bronze 150 for sale for $300 with the lift. I said I'll take it, where are you, reply was Texas. Not to be discouraged, I sent screenshot of DP back to seller with arrow pointing at lift and asked, would you be willing to sell me just this gray colored crank thing for $200? Response was "heck yes".
Lift 3: Last Monday I'm building a fence, take a break and check my phone. I see on CL a 5 minute old ad of a very clean 1949 100 with Vari-Slo and lift for $180. I immediately said I'd take it. When I got there guy said he had "a lot of people on internet wanting this thing"
It was pure luck and chance each time as to when I checked my phone. I've had some great "swing and misses" also. Last month a mint condition 1940 Delta bandsaw with cast iron pedestal and cast iron pulley cover was listed for $135 and I saw it within "15 minutes" of post. Gone. In fact while texting him he said the guy was already there!

That's quite a streak of luck Hoorn. Checking the listings sporadically through the day can reap some good finds. I'm constantly taking a break and sneaking a look.
I think I may have pic posting figured out. Here's the 100 I just finished. It's broken down and packed in my truck now for the trip to its new home tomorrow. The tables look blued in the pic, they are not. Just a lighting trick.

Awesome 100! Every aspect. Very impressive. You may have covered this but is that Rust-Oleum Charcoal Gray? You really worked that feed handle hub, looks brilliant. Great picture.
