10/11 is out of stock, mine was refunded so need to find one
Here's all the Deep Offset Box End Wrenches. All on sale, and all Made in the USA....
The "sets" are China, but the open stock is still USA (at least for now). The seven Metrics come out to $76.71. But then you can use coupon code SAVE15, to bring it down to $61.71. Then you might have $10 in points for $50 in your SYWR, to bring it down to $51.71. Then you might have $10 if future points for $50 in you SYWR, so that effectively makes it like a $41.71 deal. Since these open stock pieces are not tagged as "Hot Buys" on the website, you can get creative stacking coupon codes for the best deal.
The inch sizes are also on sale right now, but I'm passing on them since I rarely use anything but metric.
Wouldn't it just be easier to buy the China made sets and exchange them for the USA singles? That's what I did. I did buy the two large sizes individually to complete the set.

That's what I did too. Department manager didn't give me any grief about it, in fact, I think he understood why I was doing it too.
I tried to do an even exchange, but they attempted to tell me they aren't aloud to brand new wrenches since there was no "defect" in their opinion. So I went and bought USA singles and returned the Chinese ones the following week using the USA receipt. A hassle, but I'm cheap.

How did you manage to return the Chinese wrenches from the set? Don't the individually purchased wrenches have barcode stickers on them? Or do they not care when you return them and just look at the receipt?

Most of the time they have a barcode, but not ALL the time. The number marked on the wrench is also marked on the receipt. They double checked the wrenches to make sure they matched the receipt.
I use 8mm for the nuts on a vw tail light.9mm really WTF do you need that for tightening unicorn testicles?
I would have just pointed out that their warranty is, in fact, a satisfaction warranty, and you were not satisfied in reciving foreign made tools. That probably would have ended the discussion right there.

Does anyone know who makes the W series? Can I call the manufacture to get them replaced directly?
Call the 800 number on the packing slip. Tell them the problem, they will send you new replacement in the mail.
W is SK, but my new stubbys are stamped VV, which is Danaher. You may want to take a closer look at yours.
Thanks, I saw the number but assumed they would only ship out China replacements. Did you hear good things about the replacements?
W is SK
You sure on that? All my SK-made Craftsman wrenches are stamped K.

I've done it several times, they always send me new USA replacements, and they've never ask for the old ones back. So I wind up with two copies, the old defective one and the new replacement.
Look on page 3 of this thread. Someone ordered this set a couple weeks ago, and got a defective stubby, they called the number and a new one was sent right out.
They gave me a hard time and refused to replace them unless I mail the old ones back in with the receipt! He sounded upset with Sears and they probably don't care anymore since no future business or something. So now I need to mail the bad ones to them. I have never had good luck with Apex over the phone. When you call that 800 number on the paper Apex answers the calls. The lady I got for my Gearwrench issue was hard to deal with too which is also Apex.

Hum.... That's never happened to me before.
Out of the 20 piece set, how many are you returning?
I've never had a problem, but usually it is only a single piece out of a set, perhaps if you are trying to exchange 5 or 10 of the 20 pieces, they might question it? Not sure....
But agreed, they probably don't care about Sears anymore, since the business relationship probably ended when the ship sailed to China.
Sounds like it's probably the same lady I talked to when trying to warrant my defective 10mm Craftsman Industrial reversible wrench. She kept telling me to take it to Sears even though I told her Sears doesn't stock them for replacement. I ended up getting Grainger to warrant it. No problems with them at all!![]()
Maybe wait a day or two, and call back again. You might get a different person that will return them no problem.
The last time I called, it was a guy, so it was definitely someone different on the 800 number.
I had 5 defects. Two I exchanged at the store today and one I will live with. The other two I will try and call back tomorrow to see if that is within their limit to replace without having to ship them back.
Based on what I have seen in this last order Apex needs to step up quality control a little bit. If they keep turning out defects like I had Sears is better off working with China. If it was not for that huge open end the China version would be better then Apex.
Today I got a guy in MD but last time was a lady in NC.
I am going to try again tomorrow with my two defective ones left.
The lady I got for my Gearwrench issue was hard to deal with too which is also Apex.
my offsets arrived, stupid oversize box and no packaging
Still no dice. Even with just two to replace Apex would not replace them. This time I got a women. She even answered the phone sounding pissed so I knew it was going to be bad news. This time they told me different stuff again. She said I have to take it to the store so they can confiscate it and the store will need to call them only if they can not source it from Sears warehouse first. Apex is so much trouble to deal with. They treat the Craftsman line like a red headed step child. If it is not Gearwrench they just don't care about the customer and treat you like ****.
Who calls the supplier when they need warranty service? Gearwrench marks up Apex tools because they're supposed to provide the value-add, namely support.
Do you call VW when your Bentley goes wrong?![]()
Okay, that's a bad example, but you get what I'm getting at.
Everybody keeps mentioning that Craftsman isn't made by Apex. Is that true? I thought that Apex was still making them, but it was just overseas now.
I'm pretty sure they're made in the same factory as Husky tools, as I've heard several accounts of Husky sockets being found in Craftsman sets...
They own a lot of companies (danaher, kd, gearwrench, armstrong). Technically, that's where the money goes.
Doesn't necessarily mean they're made in the same places though I assume if it comes from china it comes from the same factory regardless of what's stamped on it. Craftsman industrial is armstrong which is an apex brand but it's not china it's us made. Craftsman mainline hand tools is probably apex chinese mainline (whatever that is...some factory(ies) in china that make all their chinese tools).
The incidental stuff doesn't necessarily come from apex brands though. Screwdrivers, hammers, punches (stuff like that) isn't apex as far as I know. I don't think the evolv or the craftsman max access hand tools is apex either. I think these are technically rebranded one offs from non-conglomerate tool makers because I see the stuff popping up at other retailers.
