My local Sunbelt carries a gas powered EDCO TG-10 Diamond Grinder. Will this be ideal for epoxy coating prep?

I rented one a couple of weeks ago to grind off some old epoxy that had lots of lift areas. The EDCO was quite impressive - though you have to be careful as it takes the paint and top layer of concrete off quickly.

No, it leaves a line about 2-3 inches from the wall. I used featheredge compound to cover it and feather the edge to the floor. I thought this would help move water away from the walls and down the floor. You could also rent a hand-held grinder with a diamond bit - they have them at Home Depot.

When I rented the floor grinder, it was $100 a day and there was no extra charge for the diamond wheels.

How long will it take to diamond grind the floor?

And is it possible to do the entire one car garage with the hand held?

be very carefull with that machine in your one stall garage even though it is small it will still give you co.poisoning in a hurry if you do it without ventilating.oh and if it is only a one car garage you could easily do it with a hand grinder in about an hr. then you can get up to the edges to.

Yes, to prep the concrete....and the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. Everyone is a rookie at some point.

Thanks for the info AG!

Im going to rent the hand held from HD. The manager and I are cool, and he hooks me up from time to time.

Now should I rent the vacuum that connects to it? Or will my shop vac attach to it?

And I want to make the entrance to the garage beveled. Ive seen people take concrete, and make an angled threshold. But I was wondering if I could take the hand held and grind a bevel to the floor?

Yes you should rent the vac that goes with it. Most if not all shop vacs cannot handle a diamond grinder. Good luck.

I just prepped my floor using a T.S.P. degreaser followed by muriatic acid. My floor is 9 years old but its an extra garage that hasn't seen any car storage, it does have a couple of oil stains from a lawnmower. What's the opinion on bypassing the grinding step and applying after only a muriatic acid wash. I would like to fore go the mess of grinding, since I just got done painting the inside. I'm using Sherwin Williams Tile Clad product with a clear coat on top. My local Sherwin Williams store says grinding is not necessary

Mine did too.

BUT, my neighbor used the same product about two years ago and its has come up 90%. No cars, no oil, just foot traffic. He did the acid, and all the prep. But he also has a sealer on the slab, as do I. The acid did not eat through the sealer.

His slab doesn't absorb ANY water, like it should. If the sealer was gone

I built the garage myself and I know for sure there is no sealer on the slab. I think you have given me enough concern that I am going to go ahead and grind the floor. It looks like I'll be off to the local tool rental today.

Thanks for the insight.

You are lucky! My local Sunbelt told me that price was only for the machine. To get the diamond wheel, it's $400.... :lol_hitti

Now I'm seriously researching the acid... :(

They want me to use one of the other machines with removable blocks ($75) or sand paper pads ($25). I told them the diamond grinder is what I want and they said "well you've got to buy the wheel for it!"

I seriously don't think they have a clue but I can't find one anywhere else around here that has one. Anyone have any ideas....?

If I can't find another one, the acid doesn't sound that bad and my floor is in great shape really so I think the grinder might be over kill. I just want to make sure it's done properly so it will list years and not months...
