Awesome progress, I would be waiting for warmer weather, which I'm doing here but you just keep on trucking through! Great job and the mini loft would be an excellent idea for the foam.

Been looking at two post lifts. Leaning toward a Dannmar 9000x floor plate lift. I'm not concerned with the floor plate being a problem. Pretty sure it will go in bay 1. The concrete is good and it's out of the way.

Picked up a laser level after borrowing one from a friend. This thing is so useful! Spent more on accessories than the level. Pretty sure I'll be using it in interior projects, too.

Looking better all the time.

I can't believe I never thought of mounting my laser to one of those adjustable bars. I have a tripod but it can be hard to use when you need to mount it low. Thanks

I have a cheap B&D picture hanging laser I got as a stocking stuffer may years ago that I use in cars all the time, helps with layout and centering.

Thank you. I appreciate the encouragement.

The pole is the ticket!

I'm excited about the laser!

Was back to work this week. Managed to get drywall up on one wall. Second tomorrow. Then paint.

View from the storeroom.

That wall makes a 8x15 finish room.

Former "paint booth" room: before, during, after => paint/finish room, storeroom and metal fab rooms.

Moving things into the new rooms. You can never have enough space!

Nice layout, I've used sketchup in the past for 3d shop layout. Love all that room you have, I'd kill for that size shop!

Do you use the standard size sewing tables for your machines or do you have a larger table? I've been tinkering with the idea of a 4x6 or 5x8 table with a removable plate slightly larger than my biggest machine. I would make several plates, one solid and one for each specific sewing machine and be able to quick change them or use the blank plate when patterning. The idea is often used in woodworking with router tables, lilscorpion made one for his routers in his organization thread here on gj. My shop is too small for three sewing machine tables, a cutting table and assembly table so I'm constantly thinking of ways to save room.

My main table is 6' x 12' with my main machine cut in to one end so that I have a 4x4 in feed area. This is for the 25" long arm machine. It is the left to right table at the top of the blue bay with a car in it. The white table is my double needle table. It's a standard table. I swap the 1/4 and 3/8 gauge heads as needed on that table.

This is a photo of the table in the old shop:

The shops size is awesome. The way it was built makes it very hard to use the space. I have 30' X 70' deep with only a 10 X 10 door. And a wall splitting it 40' in. There's no feasible way to add a door to that area. I'm not complaining. But it would be a lot more useable if i had better access.

I have a few router tables with lifts. I understand what you're thinking. Could be cool!

The reasoning behind the storeroom.. I don't like the way the shelves looked in the shop. Going from this:
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1453139782.545890.jpg

To this:
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1453139797.345940.jpg

Zoom of the 10.5' x 15' storeroom. I don't store cars in the shop, but the cars in the layout help show how I use the shop.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1453139827.492672.jpg

The grey shelves are a foot deep and 8' tall. The left and center row are two bolted back to back with a separator. The row on the wall are 18" deep plastic Home Depot shelves that I'll replace when something better comes along. The through aisle will have fasteners and frequently used items.

This shows how I split the shop into "bays" when describing projects and such:

Floor plan.

Bay 4 was split into 3 rooms.

Still need to build wall between 2 and 3.

Awesome, that storage room will really help hide the clutter that naturally accumulates.

I was able to get the bits I needed to complete the second parts shelving row today. The middle in the photo. I'm excited about the storeroom. It will really clean the shop up!

Storeroom shelving is all in and bolted together. I wanted a really solid feel on the end away from the wall. I ran 3/8 all thread through all 8 posts with nuts on each side and made brackets to mount the other end of both rows to the exposed studs. It is solid now.

I've started moving stuff in. This will always be an evolving space. Really happy with it thus far.

Nice and organized, wish I had a room to hide all my supplies. You'll be glad you bolted those shelves together, great job!

The layout of the shop is a bit goofy. I only have three roll up doors in almost 3500 sq ft. Dividing bay 4 into three rooms gives me some density so the other parts of the shop can be open and hopefully uncluttered.

Lots of putting things away and shuffling today. Next up is paint bay 3. Then I think I'll be building the wall between bays 2 and 3, includes the room for the dust collector.

The good news is things are being put in the (somewhat) permanent homes.

Metal fab room taking shape. I've had these Jessem Clear Cut guides waiting to be installed on the Unisaw for a while. Set them up and cut a good bit of French cleat stock.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1454270509.673432.jpg

Mounted it to two walls in the metal fab room and hung upper cabinets I have. This is the third shop they've been in. They will be good until I make new cabinets down the road.

This guy arrived today. eBay score. Paid 2/3 of the lowest price I've seen. In new condition. I have hydraulic lines to make for two cars. Should do the trick.

The drill press in the metal fab room is a Powermatic 1200 variable speed.

Thanks for comments and following my thread!

More hard line fabrication tools arrived today.

Lots of cleaning, organizing, going through boxes and bins, putting away and arranging and rearranging in preparation for building the woodworking room wall and painting bays 2 and 3.

Current layout of the fab room.

Thats a great looking metal shop, what size collets in the mill? I may end up sourcing a vertical head attachment for my horizontal Atlas mill but I would prefer to find a true vertical machine.

I got the mill here in town a couple years ago with a bad motor. Scored a brand new 2HP 3 phase motor for short money on Craigslist. It has a VFD for speed control. I assembled the DRO and got the power feed from Enco on sale. It's about as good as a round column machine can be. It uses R-8 tooling.

One day I'll get the Bridgeport restored.

I'm covering both sides of the wall in this 3/4 plywood I bought a few years ago. $4 for a 44" X 54" X 3/4". I bought a LOT of it. I've slowly used most of it up. Now that I'm in my own shop and not renting, I can use up the building materials I have on hand. The woodshop side of the wall will get a 4' tall row of pegboard the whole length about 42" off the floor. The pegboard worked well in the last shops woodshop for storing clamps and stuff.

The laser continues to make me look better than I really am.

Your thread is inspiring, I have been organizing and reorganizing and getting rid of excess. Keep it up, that 3/4 will be great to hang things on.

Thanks guys!

Nines, that's why I decided to use up this 3/4. I can attach the pegboard to it. I'll hit studs, too. But I don't have to trim the pegboard to 4' lengths.
