Love the spray booth!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting! I am really excited to have the booth in the shop. I use a lot of adhesive, paints, resins and so on. The "paint room" will be used for all sorts stuff. One more big project checked off the list. Next up (I think) is the dust collection and automation system.

WOW. Been away for a few days and trying to get caught up.

Shop is looking amazing. Great job.

Mike

Thanks for checking in on the shop, Mike! I was one of the guys that noticed you didn't update your thread for a few days ;) I get a kick out of knowing like minded people see what I'm doing and really understand it!

Nice looking booth... shoot, the whole shop is coming together nicely. Slightly envious given my next spray project will probably be in the driveway.

When I was building the loft in the storeroom last winter I painted a 12' chunk of square steel tubing with a rattle can. The fumes lingered in the shop for far too long. It was then I realized a booth is a necessity doing the work I do.

Decided to add an indicator lamp to the exhaust fan control panel so I know when the supply breaker is closed. Experimented with painting the letters. Not bad for the first attempt.

Details matter to me. This little project is so satisfying!! Adding the third element to the control panel was easy because I drew it all in CAD from the beginning.

Supply breaker off:

And the real reason I added the indicator lamp. Supply breaker on. So I know to turn the breaker off after I'm finished using the booth:

This is the first time I've tried painting the engraved area. A little tweaking and it will look a bit sharper.

I have a buddy that used a squirrel cage blower from an HVAC unit to make a small (2' x 3' x 4') spray enclosure. Works well.

I have a Dayton Electric shaded pole squirrel blower for my shop air filter build that I bought years ago. I'll probably buy and install an attic vent fan in the garage roof too.

I don't know how big I'll make my spray booth yet, but 4'Wx3'Tx2'D would be the smallest I would go. It will probably end up 6'Wx4'Tx3'D if I have the room. I'm quickly running out of space unless I can build a lean-to shed on the back to store the yard tools and equipment.

I found these on Amazon and they will work perfectly. I'll either get two or four fans total.

That's a significant difference from a proper spray booth exhaust fan. They are supposed to be explosion proof, with appropriate explosion proof electrical, filters, etc.

For a commercial spray booth yes. For a hobby booth, it's recommended but not required. I plan to build mine as a positive pressure down draft so the fans will be pushing in clean air and out of the spray. I'm using sealed motors as an additional safety factor since I may spray true lacquers. In reality it boils down to having enough air flow to prevent the critical ratios of fumes to O2. Keep the concentration low enough and ignition will not occur. I will have no electrical inside the actual spray booth area and it will be vented out of the garage.

Awesome work on the exhaust fan controls. Looks great.

It's those little details like that which really stand out.

Mike

Thanks for the kind words, Mike! I agree, it's all about the details. I'm hoping to put things together that I smile every time I use them.

Lights up in the metal fabrication room. I used five porcelain lamp bases with 55W 5000k CFLs that where in the shop when I bought it. Welder, air filter, 120v and 240v receptacles wired in as well. It's a good start. Haven't fired the TIG welder up since I moved in.

Metal fabrication room is pretty well dialed in. Everything is powered up and working. Gave things a good wipe down and tidied up a little. Happy to have these tools ready to use.

That is a cool time machine! I'm happy to help with interior stuff! If you have any questions, let me know! It's always fun to see people get the car they had years ago! Enjoy it!!

Dang, did I kill your thread or are you on vacation?

Not at all. Nothing exciting to report out. I work in the shop almost every day nonetheless. Next project to tackle is getting the woodshop working. This includes a bunch of electrical, dust collection and associated automation, air and finally getting the first router table in service.

I did make it over to the Puyallup Goodguys show this weekend. It was a great show. Some really nice cars.

Making progress on the air system plumbing. Woodshop is done. This included shooting through the wall into the paint booth, storeroom and fab room. Automation air is setup. It's coming along. Next up is fab room and continuing into the upholstery bay. Lots of air drops in there for sewing machines, glue pot, laser and so on.

I'm happy with the mix of FastPipe and MaxLine. The straightener for MaxLine works well. Ordered what I hope will be the last bits I need from RapidAir. I moved the sand blast cabinet out of the paint room, so I need more FastPipe to get it piped in.

As I've mentioned before, I'm in my almost every day. It's uncommon to completely skip a day. Sometimes progress feels really slow. Persistence is where it's at. This photo epitomizes how this stuff goes. Now that the unistrut is up, the MaxLine goes in pretty quick. Lots going on in the air system means lots to build out :)

Thanks for checking back in and commenting guys! I've got a small upholstery project in the shop so I needed to get the air system to a place where I could pressurize it again. Fab shop is done with the exception of mounting the air hose reel. I also ran a drop to a 3' hose whip for my air over hydraulic 20T on the press.

I came through the wall into the upholstery bay for a wall outlet and another air pressure gauge. It turned out really clean and I have air to the upholstery table. The table has a header built into it for the glue pressure pot, staplers and one of my sewing machines has pneumatic features.
