The electronic clutch is an advantage of a brushless motor. Drills with brushed motors must use a mechanical clutch like most of us are used to.

Metabo has been making brushed electronic clutch drills for a few years.

The reason they're "popular" with brushless is the brushless motors require a controller to operate, adding current limiting logic on it is just simply adding a few lines of code. Whereas a brushed motor can be run with a simple variable speed switch, adding a controller is adding another component.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there were any brushed motor drills with an electronic control module. Good to know.

Shane, any hint you could drop about when the SC deal is coming? I can stop refreshing the Toolnut website every hour then. :p I know you said it'll be in a deals email and I think I'm signed up but I'm not totally sure.

I cannot give an exact day/time for when we will make an announcement. Inventory is en route from Fein. We anticipate delivery early in the week. The announcement will not be made this weekend, so you can give your mouse finger a break and watch some football. I'll send the email as soon as we have them in the warehouse ready to ship.

Sorry if I'm being perceived as being coy, but I just want to make sure everyone has a fair shot at this deal since we'll have limited inventory at the promotional price. If they sell like the drills, they may last less than 24 hours.

Hopefully, someone will post it here in the Hot Deals after they place their order. :D

I cannot disclose exact quantities that we have nor predict future demand. My anticipation is that we will likely have them still at the end of the week, but no guarantees.

That's not an attempt to pressure anyone into making a purchase. Just trying to do my best to answer the question without giving an answer that may be wrong.

We do offer an option through Paypal that has no interest for 6 months during checkout.

While I doubt anyone from Fein is reading this thread, I would like to express our appreciation to Fein for giving us with this opportunity. We enjoy representing their great brand and being able to bring these fantastic values to our customers.

I wish they did It's awesome that they are working with ToolNut to offer us a deal on some really high quality tools. I actually commented afterwards saying I wish they more tools and bare tool options in the USA. I was peaking around the German Fein site and they have so many more cordless tool options. Most of them tend to be for metal working, but it would still be nice to have the tools offered. To get more deals like this post some positive comments on the Fein USA Facebook page.

In case anyone is interested in seeing a teardown of a Fein grinder, AvE did a two parter on a tear down and some electrical testing.

I sent him a message too about this deal a week or two ago in case he wanted to tear one of these drills down. I'd love to see what's inside without the risk or damaging my own drill!

firworks,

That's how he works, IME. People send him stuff to take apart. After he makes a video has a contest and passes the tool along to the winner. That's how he's done it for the last few tool breakdowns.

Got my drill in today. Charging the batteries now before I can test it out. It seems like a well built drill. I'm a little disappointed that the bottom corner of my case is cracked but oh well.

I did some demo work with mine this weekend. Nothing exciting, but I backed out about 300 2.5" screws - mostly from 2 x 3/4" oak. The drill did great but there were places that it would not fit (it's big) and places that I had to run it overhead (it's heavy).

But at the end, the battery still showed a full charge.

I ran some 1 1/2" holes through 2x oak with a less than stellar spade bit. This thing is a beast in 4th gear. I even went through some knots one handed with no problems. If our shop wasn't already set up for dewalt this thing would be coming to work with me.

Anyone else refreshing toolnut.com every hour or so?? :)

Don't bring our web server down, guys! :lol2:

The SuperCuts are in the house! Er, warehouse that is.

The cordless SuperCut deal will be coming later today or tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Again, we'll have a limited number of these, much fewer than we did with the drills. I wouldn't be surprised if they sell out pretty quickly.

It'll be the tool, two 2.4Ah 18V lithium ion batteries (which are compatible with the ASCM 18 drill), and a charger.

Do the new cordless supercuts have the same arbor holes as the multimaster? I know the older ones were different, and you had to get an adapter. Does this come with the adapter if they are different? A lot of the blades manufacturers in the big box stores also tout universal compatibility - does that also mean for example, Bosch OMT blades will fit the supercut? So many questions.... :lol_hitti

The SuperCut and Festool Vecturo have a different chuck style when compared to the Multimaster and other OMTs. We do offer an adapter that will let you use the MM blades/accessories with the SuperCut. We also stock a lot of Supercut compatible blades on our Festool website, festoolproducts.com, that would work with the Supercut.

The universal blades, like the Bosch blades, would also require using the adapter. The standard Supercut chuck would not work.

This is the blade hole pattern for the Supercut/Vecturo:

I haven't looked lately, but I thought the last price was around $450. You may be correct though.

I thought that was the price when I checked it when Shane said:
"Note: the current price on our website, is not the promotional pricing, so hang tight."

Maybe not?

It does sale "sale" next to the price with a crazy retail number that no one pays over it.

Let's just let Shane clear things up or wait for the TN email. We don't want them to regret giving us a hint about a future deal by all assuming and dismissing it.

The promo price is $299. I went ahead and flipped the switch on the price since you guys seemed eager, even though I haven't sent our email out yet announcing it.

This kit runs $499 and up everywhere else on the web. Just have a look. So, I think at $200 off, it's a sweet deal. But, value is in the eyes of the buyer.

As a comparison, even the corded Supercut starts at $369. And the Festool Vecturo is $440.

If you snagged one of the drills, you score an extra set of batteries and another charger to boot.

Cordless is nice, but not necessary for me with this tool. It's too bad the corded Supercut wood edition isn't on sale too, as it would come with a bunch of accessories and a systainer.

Tough call. That same kit is 586$ at Amazon so it does seem to be a lot cheaper. However, do I "need" the SC over the MM? Do I "need" cordless? TN also has a MM corded kit with a boatload of accessories for that same price. The case on that one looks a bit wonky though. Hmm...

Also Shane if I was to get the SC, what do you recommend to go with it since it has no accessories? I don't know very much about multi tools but maybe just some generally useful kit for cutting/trimming wood, removing paint or rust and some applications like that?

First, I'd highly recommend snagging one of the Multimaster style adapters so you can use a wider range of blades. If you want/need to do scraping or heavy duty sanding, the Fein Flooring Blade Kit would be a good choice. But I like this 6-Piece Fein Blade Set that comes in a storage case that'll hold up to 30 blades.

Guys, I feel like I almost need one of those sound effects when someone gets an answer wrong on a game show... WOM WOMMM WOMMMMM. I was thinking this was an awesome deal to go along with that drill. A discount on Fein is a real event. But, we always have the corded Multimaster options, including the super basic Starter Kit and the nice assortment kit in a Festool-compatible Systainer.

Nah don't feel bad, I just think this deal has a bit less universal appeal than the drill. The Super Cut is a really good oscillating multi tool, and you have it for a good price. I just think that others are running through the same thing in their head as me. Do I need that much of an awesome oscillating tool? The price you have on the SC is actually better than the price on the drill was. The drill was 30% off what you can get it from Fein off Amazon for. The SC is 40% off what you can get it from CPO tools for, which is even lower than Amazon's price. If you compare your price to Amazon you're looking at nearly 50% off.

I just posted a new thread for this deal so maybe people who weren't in on the drill deal and need a multi tool see it.

Don't worry Shane I got my order in!!! You guys got a bunch of money from me this month!!! I think I might need to order the MM blade adapter though the blades are much more common that the super cut style. I bet the deal with pick up when people get home too.

I was ready to buy at roughly $200, but its more than I expected, and with accessories on top.. I understand you can't just give things away though. Don't fret, all this hype about the cordless Supercut has me interested in one of your corded kits!

P.S. I love the drill and am still waiting to hear about that impact ;)
