Still lovin' the build! I look for updates almost every day. Sounds like you and your family are definitely livin' life the way it was intended - recognizing a need and doing what you can to meet it. Congrats on the incredible build and "doin' the right thing!"

The next time I head to Cincy, I'll have to keep an eye out for your garage from 75, I'm sure it will be visible from there! :eyecrazy:

Its not THAT big...............But look me up though:thumbup:

The past couple days the plumber has finished up all of his rough and got his inspection done as well, and he PASSED, so we are good to go there.

The electrician finished up most of all of his stuff too and got most of the panel wires up and a the wire upstairs for a 100 amp sub panel for the unfinished space.

The brick layers are headed up the side of the garage and got the front all finished up.

So here are some pics from the past couple of days.

Front porch finished out:

Very nice build. I would ask the electrician if running the cable between the studs and the cement wall is a good idea. Seems like they could eventually chafe over time and cause a fire. Why not put them in the 2x4’s like the others? Just an observation.

Thanks for sharing.

All that concrete & he parks the car on the lawn ;)

Well, that is my friends car and they have two, and they car pool on some days and we never know who is going to be at the job site, so anyone that leaves a little later in the morning parks on the lawn so they do not get blocked in in the morning.

But yeah, kinda crazy to have to park on the lawn.

I am scheduled to have the rest of the concrete poured in two weeks, which will finish out the concrete work that needs to be done.

I know it looks to be tight, but there is plenty of rm in between the studs and cemet. I done really see how they could ever chafe, since there is nothing there to cause a rubbing action. If that wall is moving enough to rubb the wires, there are some bigger issue I will have to deal with. I will find out next week when he gets his inspection if it passes or not.

I am glad to be able to share this with everyone. I know I have enjoyed posting and reading every comment and all the info that is to gotten here on GJ.

Al Gore wins an Academy Award for a PowerPoint presentation - go figure. I'd say you have a much better chance just on the story you've provided all of us (so far). We know the ending will be a happy one. If a movie deal isn't in the works, I'll expect to see your book in Barnes & Noble next spring. Thank you for the ongoing adventure.

Thats a beautiful house as well as garage. It looks great.

wow thats a whole lot of bricks great setup house and barn blends together perfect

Thanks for the comment guys. My wife and I wanted it to look like the house and blend in, so that it always looked like it was there and built at the same time.

^^Now that is some funny stuff, thanks, but I feel that I have gone a little over board on the picture, with each day something small happens, I take a pic of it and post it. I should probably just post ever couple of days, since all the pics look the same.

This weekend, I decided that I needed to get some stuff done before they started insulation and drywall, so it was a busy day on Saturday.

I ended up running speaker wire all through out the garage for music and surround sound for the sitting area. In the center bay in the front, I am going to put two speakers kinda toward the back by the I beam, since that is where you would be working on a car. Then, in the rest of the bays, I ran one single speaker in the center of each area. With the space being all open, I don't think I needed too many.

I also ran CAT 5 cable to where the projector is going to hang and put a box in to run a HDMI cable for it as well. Just for the heck of it, I also ran a short HDMI cable up the wall, just in case the Projector thing does not work out with all the light that will be in the garage. That way I can put a flat screen on the wall and have a HDMI outlet there as well. I have all the CAT 5 cable running the space above the bathroom, along with a cable outlet, so that I can put my cable modem and router up there. The other CAT 5 cable will be a plug by the work area on the back wall, just to have, even though I will have wireless internet, you can never have enough CAT 5 outlets.

Here a couple of pics of the stuff I did this weekend, kinda hard to tell what it all is, but in the end, you all will see............

Here the main part of it all, 4 gang plug with all the speaker wires, CAT 5 and HDMI cable spot.

SANY0826.jpg

The short cable for the flat screen IF I have to go that route.

SANY0827.jpg

CAT 5 cable outlet where the work bench will be.

SANY0829.jpg

All the cable and speaker wire ran through the soffit next to the gas line with the duct work, making sure the wires are well away from the power wires running through there too.

SANY0831.jpg

Here is the where the cable moden and router will be located:

SANY0830.jpg

Last but not least, all the stuff for the projector, CAT 5 cable, the open spot is where a HDMI cable will be ran, I still have to buy that, since it is a 30ft run, and the last is the power.

SANY0828.jpg

I also ran a cable wire upstairs that will be used once that space get finished and I don't think I will need and CAT 5 up there, since the wireless route will be able to take care of any computer that may end up there.

I think I got it all, I have been STRESSING like crazy all week, try to figure out what all I need to run and where to put it, 'cause once the drywall is up, it is over, well not really if you want to cut it open and redo it, which I do not want to have to do.

If you guys can think of anything else I would need to do, let me know, I have till the end of this week to put stuff in the walls, before the insulation and drywall gets here.

Till next time and thanks for reading.................

Nothing special, just some pics of the daily progress of the Brick going up.

We are just waiting on inspections at this point to be able to move forward. Then the insulation and drywall can go up, but before that, my alarm guy will be out to install the sercurity system, which I hope to be able to get done in the next couple of days.

Ok I'm hooked on this build. Been looking and reading for about 4 days now. I'm on slow dial up so these big pics take a long time to download but please keep them coming.

Its looking very good! I'd suggest running CAT5 upstairs - File transfers are WAY faster, and maybe you'll want to run a media server, or AllData server, etc, later on. I really love my media PC. Maybe consider an IR repeater (If that's what they are called) for the projector, so you can point at a place on the wall and it transmits the signal to your devices.

Wow, if you are on dial up, I am sure it does take a bit to read this, since I have a ton of pics, thanks for looking and I plan on posting more pics on Friday.

Good point, I have this weekend to make my final decisions on what I want in the wall. I will run a CAT5 cable upstairs, just to have, but at the same time, I can just get another cable modem for the upstairs and a router, so I have options.

Yesterday I got my framing inspection, which passed, so on with the rest of the job.

Friday, insulation is being put in and the drywall is being delivered. Then on monday, the drywall is being put up. SO, By the end of next week, I MAY be ready for paint on the inside!!

Oh, and this weekend, a freind of mine is coming over to help dig out for the rest of the driveway and parking pad with his bobcat, and so sometime next week, I will get the rest of my concrete finished up.

So that is the update from more and I plan on getting pics up this weekend some time of what has gone on.

Man, I just found this thread, how did I miss this awesome build ? I'm going to get nothing done today if I sit here and read this entire thread, 6 pages done, and finishing the rest later.

So far it's an awesome build, second floor ready for framing.

KYGTP,

While you have some of the wall still open, you could do what I did in my 140 year old house. I ran 2 inch, PVC tubing from the basement to the attic stopping at the two floors with T fittings. That way I can retro any run I want - phonem Cat 5, speakers, whatever. It worked great when I had to have a temporay office and used an upstairs bedroom. Then, when I finished the new office, the PVC ended up behind the walls and I still had access via jack covers like you use with phone lines.

Otherwise, keep 'em coming. I am totally digging your high speed build and am looking forward to seeing how you finish the inside.

JC - Cool idea, I'll remember that one!

KYGTP - But if you run another cable modem, won't the computers be less accessible to each other? You won't get as high of transfer, I suppose I mean to say. I know my Comcast line couldn't stream Bluray.

Thanks, the second floor at some point will get framed and finished, just not now, I am running out of money pretty quick.

I have thought about that, but since the upstairs is not going to be finished, I will be able to "live" in it for a bit and see what else will come to mind for what I want to do up there.

Thank you.

Looking damn good! Grew up in Loveland, NE Cincy. Now stuck in Cali.

I just had my car painted by a guy that lives up in Loveland, so I know where you are talking. Nice area up there.

Sig, I never thought about that one, I will have to ask around and see what they say about that.

I hope to get some pics up tonight of the progress of the pat couple of days. They are insulating today and may have to finish on Sat. The drywall will be here today too. Last night I ran my HUGE HDMI cable that I bought on line to run to my projector and put in a couple more plug outlets.

I think this server must be located in the Mountian Time Zone, 'cause I posted at 6:30 AM here in Cincy, OH, so that would be 2 hrs behind me, so I did not stay up all night, nor did I get up very early just to post on here:wtf: I was up at 5 am, but that was to start getting ready for my work day.

I'd just run the CAT5, it'll make it easier. I'm positive gigabyte network is faster than whatever your modem is.

JC23 - The posts times are time-zones adjusted..So for me, KYGTP posted at 0329. But being his Location says Cincinnati, I know that really means 0629.

I know, its Friday and sorry its kinda late, but here is what we got done.

The Bricker layers finshed up the side and the back of the garage and the the only thing they have left is the side next to the hill and the small little area by the front door, so they should be done in a week or so. The front door gets a arch in it and a couple other little details, so it will take them a little bit of time on that.

All of the insulation was all completed today too. All of the drywall was dropped off today, so first thing on Monday they start hanging. My contractor was told by the dry wall guys that it may take them about 2 to 3 days to hang it all, and about a week or so to finish it. I am just glad that I am not doing it, drywall is one thing I really don't like to get into.

Well, enough with all the talkey and with the pics:

SANY0859.jpg

SANY0860.jpg

SANY0861.jpg

One thing that I am going to do is take this drain that I have at the end of my drive way and raise it up 6" since the new driveway will go over it and then "fish bowl" it so that everything will go into it.

Here is the drain the way it sit now, my son thought it would be cool to throw dirt in and on it:

SANY0862.jpg

Here is the 6" riser that I got to raise it up so that it is easier to drive over and around.

SANY0858.jpg

Tomorrow, a friend of mine will be over and we plan on digging out for the new driveway, putting the riser on the drain and digging the trench for the 2 2" peices of conduit to run to the house .

So I will post up more pics by Sunday of all of that progress, I just hope we are able to get it all done in one day.

Till Next time and thanks agian for all your comments and reads...........

seems like there should be another row or two of bricks above the windows and doors on the back side of the building but it matches the original drawings you posted at the start. Guess they will put the brick trim in when they do the facia and soffit work.

Yes, that is correct, they will put up "freeze" board and wrap it in alum trim that will tie into the soffit stuff. I kinda thought the same thing, but it is right, just looks strange right now.

Well, Off to head outside for the day and get to work.

Pics to come later on tonight.

a bunch of CAT5 lines, just to have, so if I plan on putting cameras up, I will have the lines already ran and be able to monitor the garage and that part of my house and driveway.

You can NEVER have too many CAT6 cable runs. Do it now. You will be thankful later!

Well, yesterday was a VERY long day. All of the gravel that was in the front of the garage was dence grade left over from my first wall build and we have been parking on it for 5 years, so it was hard like concrete and the bobcat could not even make a dent in it. So, we had to take the back hoe and dig out an area and then use the bobcat to load it up. That took most of all of the day.

But before we started on that, we dug the ditch for the conduit for cat5 lines The other conduit is empty for now, but I did run a rope through it to make it must easier to pull stuff at a later time.

Then today, I cleaned up the landscaping by the house from the mess we made yesterday.

I also ran a rope from my electric box in the garage over to the soffit and the length of the garage, just in case I ever need to pull wire for something, you never know.

Then I placed the 6" riser on my old drain to have that ready for this week when they pour the concrete.

So I am wipped today, but got alot of thing finished.

On with the pics.........................

Wow, I must be slacking, I forgot to post up the pics of all the insulation they installed on Friday. They were able to get it all finished, so drywall will start in the morning. Once drywall starts going up, I should be about 2 to 3 weeks away from finishing the electric, plumbing, HVAC, and paint.

All the outside work still needs to get done, Freeze board, gutters, siding on the 2nd floor Dormer and all the sofits put in.

I hope to get a final grade of the land in about 2 weeks, once the conrete is finished and the bricklayers are done, I will start and hope to get some grass before it turns too cold.

Well, I have talked enough.............

I have a low voltage contactor on my compressor. I have a low voltage wire 18/3 that runs to a switch and a light. You could do the same and thus have a remote switch outside the compressor room.
