Nice car pics.

As to your compressor question. I have my compressor at the end of the garage with a retractable hose reel mounted above it. With 25' of length it works anywhere i need it in my space. I'm way more restricted on space though.

That is a good setup...I'm looking at prices of retractable hose reels as I type this. I'm eventually planning to upgrade the compressor to something significantly larger than the 3.5 gallon Porter Cable, but for now, it'll suffice.

My while one is gone now sold it last year, but the red one is still in the garage. It has BBS RX203's on now vs the Hartge's in the photo. Yeah reselling the 215's would be a good idea as there are plenty of kids that like the stanced look.

Going back through my thread to see my progress, and I forgot all about this post. You open to taking a fellow GJ member on a cruise sometime next Spring? I've never had the privilege of riding in an E30 M3. And there are some breweries in Western MA that I could hit on my drive out to you. No pressure, though.....

Yeah, the white one is gone now ... :( but their is also some great areas in mid state. around the Quabbin is a great cruise and there are some decent places plus winery's as well.

I hope to have all three of my project cars done this winter as I have heat now in my new work zone. Funny looking at the house that way, it was like that for nearly 18 months arg, so glad my tenants are good and the house is done.

We had a decent turn out for a cruise around Barkhampsted this summer.

Now that the cold weather is just about upon us, I'm going to need to relocate my snowblower so that it's more easily accessible for the winter. This means that I'll need to swap parking spots between the tractor and the blower. To get this started, I also decided to rejigger my wall storage a bit, as the bicycle closest to my wife's Jeep ended up sticking out a bit more than I had liked. This caused the pedal to sometimes get in the way as people walked by the Jeep, or as they were exiting/entering the Jeep.

To address this, I decided to get both bikes mounted up on the 8 foot track:

30898591816_1972464888_z.jpg

This freed up a ton of room on the 4 foot track closest to the entrance of the garage, which I then filled with extension cords, my weed trimmer and eventually the garden hoses (well, those used in the front yard, anyway):

30633265410_1cd241f292_z.jpg

The tractor will end up getting parked the long way against the back wall of the garage, which also means I'll need to shift the wire rack shelving unit a few feet over to the right (closer to my side of the garage). The blower will then easily fit precisely where the tractor sits today.

And now, a few random shots of my side of the garage, including some BMW-themed prints that I finally got around to mounting (another shoutout to M-technik-3 for the images):

22756255658_2d141c83f9_z.jpg

And once my wife leaves with the baby to visit her grandfather in 30 minutes or so, I'll head outdoors to bring in all the lawn equipment down to the basement.

Man, have I mentioned I need a shed?!

My garage is roughly the same size and I have a barn and a 12x28 shed and still when it boils down you always want more room. I have to go dig out my snowblower and and prep my J Deere 318 with it's chains and weights and plow. JUst wished I had bought the cozy cab that was for sale out your way back in the spring. Would have made plowing the driveways that much easier.

Gonna do something with the floor and walls next year?

You're 100% spot-on. There is no such thing as enough storage space.

I already have quite a bit on the financial "to-do" list for next Spring/Summer:
  • shed
  • irrigation system
  • tractor
  • landscaping
  • water pressure booster
  • etc.

So the garage walls and flooring might be taking a back seat until a later date. However, my eventual goal is to go with RaceDeck flooring (in addition to potentially sealing the floor) and repainting the walls. Probably sticking with white, but who knows.

Any suggestions on flooring/walls? I always like to hear other opinions.

A buddy of mine recently texted me, knowing I was looking to upgrade the lighting in my garage, and alerted me to the fact that Ocean State Job Lot (a local discount chain) started carrying MaxLite LED shop lights.

I swung by this past weekend and bought two units, each running me only $19.99. I figured at this price, if I get a few years out of them, they're a no brainer. Especially since the equivalent at Home Depot would run me $49.99 a pop.

30388863053_74a9ece752_m.jpg

I plugged one of the units in that night to ensure they were going to be bright enough to warrant installing them and was very happy with the output. I wish I had taken a photo to show just how bright one light was, so I can only imagine how well my garage will be illuminated with both units powered on.

After work, I'm taking my wife's Grand Cherokee over to my buddies in-law's house to borrow a 10 ft step ladder, so he and I can get these installed tonight.

I envision mounting them towards the rear of the garage, since that's where I will be doing more of my work while I'm in there. They'll be replacing the A21 bulbs currently mounted in the top-right corner here:

47533586032_46502fa600_c.jpg

I'll take photos before and after to try and capture the difference in lighting. If all goes well, I may grab more of these for additional lighting in my garage and/or basement.

Luckily, my buddy is an electrician, so I'll be in good hands.

Though not hardwired yet (my buddy ended up not having enough time to give me a hand), I was able to get up and mount the lights where I wanted them Wednesday night. My temporary means of powering the lights:

shopping

The pictures clearly don't do it justice, but my garage is significantly brighter now than it was before. Here are some comparison shots:

I'm beyond ecstatic with my $19.99 LED shop lights. So much so that I may get a few more for my basement and potentially my garage. My father-in-law asked if I could pick a few up for him, as well, since his local store doesn't have any in stock.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving with your families. Cheers!

Nice! They look great, and you can't beat that price. In fact, I'm going to swing in to job lot tomorrow to see if I can get a few for my basement and shed. Thanks for the tip!

No you cannot. Going to swing by today to see if there are any more in stock.

Glad I could help! How did you make out?

OSJ you say? I will pass this along to my sister's they bought a place about 7 months ago and it has a horse barn we are redoing.

My buddy swung by Saturday morning to hardwire my new shop lights for me. Even with the doors closed, it was a brisk 24 degrees F in the garage. That has led me to add heating of the garage to my to do list, maybe next year. I'm thinking of going with a ductless, mini-split setup, as I've heard many good things about them. Doesn't hurt that my dad works for a plumbing/HVAC company and gets just about everything they sell at cost, either. But that's another topic for another day.

Wish I had clear or white zip ties at the time, as I was forced to go with black ties. Oh well, the work looks clean, anyway.

Do these link up the same way as the ones from costco?

They don't, which would have been nice, but it really wasn't that big of a deal for me. Definitely not enough of a reason to not buy the lights, especially when you factor in the "can't beat it" price.

Last shot with the orange oaks is great. Should have that one framed.

My wife had this very same thought and ended up giving me this for Christmas:

31904477442_b0977a1e5e_z.jpg

She ended up using an app on her iPhone to take my existing photo and render it, giving it the appearance of being an actual painting. Haven't hung it yet, as I haven't settled on a good location. But I was pumped when opening this gift. Very thoughtful!

Sorry I never replied. I did swing by the store, but no luck. I ended up getting some of the Costco LED shop lights for 20 a piece, though, and put them up in the basement

Always enjoy checking in on your updates. Keep it up!

Unfortunately, things have been rather slow-moving on my end. But I guess that's just what happens around the holiday season. Hopefully 2017 brings many more upgrades and toys for my garage.

I'm glad you enjoy it, man!

Nice maybe beside your office desk if you have one. That was a nice thought by your wife.

You know, I hadn't thought of that. I was initially thinking of putting it up in my garage, to keep with the BMW-theme. But somewhere in my office is a great idea. Kudos!

No need to apologize, my friend. Glad you scored with the Costco lights. I'm still contemplating grabbing more for myself, even if I don't immediately install them. Would just love to have them on hand for when I eventually get inspiration to add them somewhere...anywhere!

Thats a great gift!

It really was. She's a keeper! ;)

Ended up taking a ride to Harbor Freight yesterday after work. Those of us who have a location nearby know what happens once you step inside. You buy a ton of stuff. I dropped about a hundo yesterday and came away with this haul (jack stand not included):

Let's be honest, who can't use more tarps. It's one of those things you can never really have enough of and I try to grab one of these every trip, since there's always a coupon for these where you end up getting it free!

31335254753_78cd6984a6_m.jpg

31335255933_4c804febc3_m.jpg

Going to throw these organizers in two of the drawers on my Husky unit to help clean up some of my loose, hand tools.

31996670232_81b67955de_m.jpg

32106774056_127bd8afae_z.jpg

I went with the HF Retractable Air Hose Reel, as it had favorable reviews and scored higher than the Husky Unit. Doesn't hurt that it was also on sale, with coupon, for $59.99. Besides, the amount of times I'll use it over the course of the next few years won't be enough to justify spending $100+ on one of these. So if I get 3 or 4 years out of it (I'm sure it'll be more than that), I'll be happy with my purchase.

I think I'll end up mounting it on the wall above where the tractor is parked in this photo (she's since been relocated, for those who haven't been able to read through the entire thread):

31205519045_0b38921fe3_z.jpg

This way, it'll be located between both vehicles and closer to the tractor and snowblower. I just need to figure out how I want to position the compressor. I may use an old night stand we have down in the basement in order to keep it off the ground, at least until I get a more permanent solution.

Stay tuned...we have some sinking/settling with the garage slab on my wife's side of the garage. :wtf:

As previously teased, towards the end of the summer, I started to notice some sinking with the garage slab. I already pointed this out to the builder and he assured me that once spring arrived, he'd come fix this. He did ask that I continue to park my wife's Grand Cherokee in the garage, as always, to help apply more weight and ensure the garage is as settled as it will be come springtime.

The photos probably don't do it much justice, but there is at least a 1 - 1.5 inch difference in the height of the concrete pictured (pardon the dirty *** garage floor..it IS winter in New England):

Oh, and there's a crack in the garage foundation wide enough where I can see daylight:

32135208911_13fa4b9211_z.jpg

32216197926_2470733655_z.jpg

The builder did mention that he would take care of this crack, as well. He's been pretty good with following up on issues when I've reached out to him, granted, sometimes it takes a few phone calls. But he does have several more houses to build before the development is finished, so I know where to find him for at least the next 1-2 years.

Melted snow and rain off my wife's Jeep has nowhere to go due to the sunken slab, so here it sits:

Now for some more optimistic news, using some inspiration I found on the Obsessed Garage Facebook group (you should all check it out if you haven't, started by the man himself, Money2536), I went out and bought myself a $29.99 garage cart. Figured I can use this when detailing my car or when I need to use a variety of different tools when performing a repair on my car.

The individual who originally posted about the cart purchased his from IKEA, but Target sells a nearly identical version. For the price, I'm very happy with the quality:

31874487070_72991ec7f2_m.jpg

Can't wait to put it to use! Assuming the low pressure fuel pump I ordered for my car (yes, my car requires both Low and a High pressure fuel pumps) arrives before Monday, this may be put to the test as I'm planning on doing the repair that day - MLK day, aka, work holiday.

I also went ahead and setup my wrench organizer that I recently picked up from Harbor Freight. Clearly there's room for more, but I have no doubts that I'll have it filled in due time.

I may also try and mount my retractable air hose reel this weekend, though I have quite a bit going on. So time may be tight. And my Cowboys are playing Sunday evening, so no work will be happening that night.

How 'bout them Cowboys!!! :rocker:

Wow, that really stinks about the slab! I'm curious how he'll fix it. A sinking slab is one thing, but one that's lifting is more challenging to address. Has he said how he plans on fixing it? Any other slab issues in your basement or foundation issues with the rest of the house?

That gap thats growing in your pad is crazy, very happy to hear your builder is working with you on a remedy. Good luck!

It's definitely annoying, but he didn't seem overly concerned when I pointed it out to him. We'll see what he does, thanks man!

He didn't mention anything about how he'd fix it, but also didn't seem overly concerned. He made it sound like this happens from time to time. He said it's very tough to know what's deep down below each foundation, so settling does typically occur. Unless the other slab is the one that's sinking (as opposed to lifting), I never really thought of that. I'll check it out when I get home.

Basement and foundation are fine. Just your normal, run of the mill cracks. The home inspector did mention that these are typical and to be expected. It's only when one side of a crack starts protruding further out than the other side of the crack does it become problematic.

We shall see!

It sounds to me as though you may have a problem with the footer since you can see daylight. Might want to consult with a basement waterproofing or foundation restoration company independent of the builder just for a second opinion. May need to have a couple of piers put in place for long term stability and they are not cheap. You want to correct this on his dime and not yours.

That is an excellent idea and I want to thank you for suggesting it. Because up to this point, I hadn't actually thought of doing that. Absolutely going to have someone give me an independent 2nd opinion, so I can have that in my back pocket when the time comes to deal with the builder.

I know you were planning on racedeck but its a good thing you havn't done anything to the floors beforehand! That separation would be such a headache with conventional tile or epoxy!

Great point. One of the few times my procrastination has actually benefited me! :bounce:

Although, I can't really take the credit there. It's less an issue of procrastination and more an issue of it being lower on the "wishlist" totem pole.

I'll probably call a few places on Friday while working from home to see if someone can come out and give me some estimates on the work needed. At my old house, we used a company called Pioneer Basement for some garage waterproofing work that we needed to have done. They did a fantastic job and had one of the better quotes, so might not hurt to start with them.

Swapped my low pressure fuel pump out yesterday morning, which meant that I got to put my new garage cart to use for the first time. And I will say that it was very handy having all my tools (and iPad for the DIY link/photos) and phone nearby and contained.

31657176163_daf9ec14b6_m.jpg

Aside from that, I grabbed these two bad boys Friday during my lunch break. Now to clean up all the **** that's piled up on my workbench over the last few months, so I can actually put the stool to use:

In addition, my latest Amazon purchase arrived on Friday:

Up until now, I'd been using my "homemade foam gun" solution, which I had come across a few years back on the interwebz:

76711d76-df80-405e-8836-d025a8429b88_1000.jpg

Not the prettiest solution, but hey, it did the job. Can't wait to put the Gilmour to work and see what I've been missing out on. (I know, I know...the IDEAL solution is a pressure washer with a foam lance, but I don't yet own a pressure washer so this will do).

Thanks for the update. I was curious what you had found out. Another thought I had is that you might want them to check out the foundation around the house too while you have them there.

Also, Looks like some cool new toys, I mean tools showed up. I think I need to get a foam gun for my pressure washer.

You read my mind. I have a few other "normal looking" foundation cracks, based on what the home inspector had told me during the initial inspection. Couldn't hurt to take a walk around the house and point out any potential flaws.

Not a bad idea to grab a foam gun for your pressure washer. Wish I had one! Which one do you have?

I picked up a Troy Bilt from Lowes a few years ago on a Father's Day special. Used it for a job that paid for it and have found it very useful. I usually hand wash my vehicles and use the PW for decks and concrete cleaning. I need to do some research and maximize my use of it.

on your cart, the difference between the target and ikea is that the middle shelf/tray is adjustable on the ikea one.

Yeah, I noticed that. IKEA is a 35 minute drive for me, whereas Target is a 3 minute drive. It was a no-brainer!

Nice! Sounds pretty damn convenient. A future purchase for me, perhaps!

You won't regret the pressure washer. Just make sure to maintain the engine and carburetor and to winterize it properly before your garage gets to the freezing point. I would also suggest dropping an extra $40 or so on a turbo nozzle if you are going to do much concrete cleaning. I loaned mine to a friend who cleaned his driveway and walks in about an hour and a half. He said the same job usually takes about 6 hours. I call that nozzle my moneymaker. The only problems I have had with the PW is the oxygenated "gasoline" sold around us has so much alcohol that it soaks up a lot of humidity. After the second time taking the carb apart I now only add enough gas to do the job at hand so I can run it dry and if I don't expect to use it again for a few weeks I hit it with fogging oil in the intake. I don't know if it is the design of the Briggs carb on this model or what but I want it to fire when I pull the cord.
