I'm in Texas also and what I'm planning, 26x40 with 10' walls 8/12 trusses (2/3 scissor and 1/3 attic) and only a brick front (short wall with gable and garage doors) is coming in just under $20 a sqft doing ALL the work myself except slab. That's just the materials for a shell. No insulation, no electric, no a/c, no sheetrock, no driveway, nothing! I've been watching Macs build and considering the cost of materials I think he got a fair price for the turnkey job he got. If I could afford it I'd be asking for his contractors info.

So bamarocker if your contractor is willing to work in Texas I would be willing to pay $18.75

I didn't go with the lowest bid. I went with the contractor I have used before for other projects. They have great subs that do outstanding work.

I am very happy with the results. An I tell you that air conditioning is really nice.

Looks like you got your moneys worth. From what I've seen anyone would be happy with the contractor's that you used, and the materials also. Congratulations on your build and Enjoooy:thumbup:

Thought I would give an update. I have been working on organization and decorations. Here is what it looks like today.

The best thing I did was put in air conditioning. It was 103 yesterday and I was nice and cool in the garage.

Still plan to build a workbench for the back wall.

MacTexas, that thing is fantastic. Who could complain with a garage like that.

I'm going to be building in College Station and am drooling over your garage, and that AC! People who don't live here don't understand, AC is a must if you want to enjoy.

Before I read these threads I had put an 8' overhead door on my sketch so the wife could park her lawn equipment in a "gardening area". I got her the lawn tractor with the female grips, now only she can operate it. :)

I like the overhead storage over the garden area. I went to a couple of other sites as you recommended, and I like the ladder that hoists up and down. I need to look at that further.

The only question I have is what are you going to put on the floor. If I missed it I apologize.

Thanks for the kind words.

My lawnmower garage door is only 6 ft X 6 ft and it is just the right size.

The only thing I store above the lawnmower is Christmas Decorations and since I only use them 6 weeks a year I did not put stairs, they take up space. I just get my ladder out, lean it against the wall and get the stuff down.

I thought long and hard about the floor. I had race deck in my last garage and did not like it. I thought about epoxy and tile but I settled for just concrete with nothing on it. I have no regrets.

Words cannot describe how nice the air conditioning is in the summer. I have no heat but I just put on another sweatshirt if I get cold.

Mac,

I'm in Texas as well and I have no idea how you are making it through this winter without a heater. I recently purchased the Fahrenheat FUH54 (Dayton clone) and it has made this winter very enjoyable. Farm and Fleet has it on clearance for $212 shipped. It's electric and I don't run it all day long, but it definitely nice to have when working on a project all day.

I have to admit I do not work in the garage when it is below 30. Anything over 30 is just layers of clothes. The good thing about cold is you can always put on more clothes but with heat, well you know.

This winter has been much colder than last but most days it gets above 30.

All looking good MacTexas. Keep it coming. I am starting a place off 377 just south of Benbrook.

I will be watching your progress. I saw the sign you bought at Pate and can't wait to see it in your new garage. By the way, I got 3 1/2 inches of rain yesterday, FINALLY some decent rain.

Hi MacTexas
Thought I would drop in to see your build. It is a damn shame about Imageshack.
How about placing a few pics. I’m guessing it is your avatar.
Brick with a Cottage roof or what we call a cottage roof. When I was down in Texas I met up with Bronson. He showed me his family home where he grew up. Nice home. I said I was partial to bungalows. I didn’t realize a bungalow was considered cabin like in Texas. I believe he called it a rancher. Well a bungalow where I’m from is a rancher far from a Texan cabin. I refer to our home at the lake as a cabin, some say cottage, lake house but never a bungalow. I digress, what kind of roof is on your garage.

Good idea, I will post some pictures of the finished garage. The builder called it a hip roof and because all sides are equal he called it a pyramid hip.

I couldn't tell from the angle. I would think that a roof like that took a wack of cutting and resulted in more materials used, but I'm no roofer Thank God! It would make for a unique roof line, not seen to often in my area. But it makes for an unique building and that is pretty cool in my books. Let me know when you get some pics up.
