I've been thinking of the courage involved in under taking kitchen renovations during the holidays. You have patient family. Merry Christmas.
LoL.

We planned a complete remodel a few years back. It got pushed back due to a few things and then I began working a ton of overtime.

The wall paper was absolute **** in the corner and the wife hated it. I decided to get started on the kitchen.... not all at once but a bit at a time. Basically, I will divide it up into several projects, each one with a goal.

This will let me take a break, regroup and work on others things without burn out.

Picked up a new DeWalt planer yesterday. It was a free bare tool after buying a 2 piece battery kit.

When I unboxed the DeWalt stuff this morning, I wanted to mark the batteries like I had the other 20V batteries.

I mark mine with my initials, month/year and I number them. I wasn't sure where I was in numbering the batteries. I gathered up all of them and found I had another one not numbered.

This evening, I realized that I now have 13 batteries and kinda shook my head...13 ?

Aren't you supposed to skip a number, like they do with elevator floors? Skip the 13th floor and the thirteenth battery!

Happy & healthy 2025 to you and your loved ones NuttsGT
Thanks and to you as well.
At one time I believe Home Depot was offering a lifetime warranty on the Dewalt cordless tools, even the batteries. Is that still true? I don’t know how that could really be a good policy, and who’s lifetime?!
On Dewalt, never heard that one. They did offer it on the Rigid line at one time. Now, I'm not sure if they still do it.

I bought a JCPenney car battery for my Corvette in 1978. Both JCPenney and Sears DieHard batteries came with a lifetime warranty (for the same car as long as I owned it). The JCP battery was significantly cheaper so that's what I bought. They replaced the battery three times in five years (Florida heat and Big Block Chevy engines are not kind to batteries). When JCPenney stopped selling batteries in 1983, Firestone took on the replacement process. Firestone replaced the battery once but the next time I went it, the carbon copy receipt was so faded they couldn't verify it was my Corvette or the same VIN. Switched to a DieHard with a lifetime warranty but because I was working on the Corvette and it was up on jackstands and no longer registered, I couldn't bring the car to Sears and they wouldn't give me a new battery. My warranty life is a bug, not a windshield.

On the bright side, the fan motor on our house A-C condenser crapped out. I thought it was the capacitor and replaced it (had a new one on the shelf in the garage) and the fan worked for almost two days. It's a variable speed fan and lists for ~$920. Had a spare contactor and replaced it but still a no-go. Called my son to look out for a working fan on one of his home renovation jobs. He asked me if my 2-year old condenser had a warranty and sure enough it has a 10-year warranty. That was last Friday night so I waited until Monday to call the installer whose name was on the warranty. He came out, plugged the fuse pack back in the box and the fan started spinning. As I was making my hangman's noose, the fan stopped. He told me this particular fan motor doesn't use a capacitor (I whas replacing a good capacitor for the compressor motor). It has some kind of 12V start 220V run setup.

I rarely make calls about the warranties on my stuff because they are rarely what they seem. I paid $150 for the service call to verify the fan motor was bad and another $150 for the service call to put the new motor in. Had the fan been a $175 single speed I would not have made the warranty call because I know the animal husbandry meaning of "service."

As a Snap-On Dealer for over 30 years I lived and died because of “Lifetime” warranty. So now when I have something that dies and it has a lifetime warranty, you better believe I’m getting my warranty! O’Reilly’s gave me a “lifetime” on my 04 F350 alternator, those things died so fast I can now swap one in less than 5 minutes, even while wearing my Sunday best!

Got a little garage time today. I decided to get started on the drill press as it needs to get done.

I cut out 3 plates from 1/4" steel. I must say, I need practice with the plasma cutter for free hand

KIMG2140.JPG

I need to drill holes in the solid plate like the other one. The one with the hole in the center needs some build up welded back in it. This fits higher up on the column and needs to fit tighter than it currently does.

I also had a box arrive for a future project.

KIMG2138.JPGKIMG2139.JPG

These are FEL attachment brackets. The plan is to build a push blade for the JD. I was going to buy Wheel Horse blade the neighbor has for sale but unfortunately, it's not wide enough. The hunt is on for a cheap 48" blade that is located close to me.

Pretty much have all 3 plates ready to go for further assembly.
KIMG2155.JPG

I welded up the center of the top plate to close it up. Then after some measuring, I used a carbide to cut it open to where I needed it.

The bottom plates, are marked, drilled and have alignment marks. One of them could use an extra bit of clean up KIMG2156.JPG

I hate running out of stuff during a project, to the point that I've been stocking up commonly used items such as grease and oil. Granted I only live 4-5 miles from the closest auto/tractor/house supply stores, it's just a time-consuming trip if it's for something like grease only.

Don’t feel bad about your ovals Eric. I don’t know what it is but I can cut a laser straight line with a framing saw, put a portaband in my hand and it looks like it came off a drop down bandsaw. But every time I grab my plasma torch I swear I turn into a blind man with Parkinson’s and a little Tourette’s thrown in for good measure

TSC is about 7 miles for me.... but, a special trip is probably at least 40 minutes. Stop, wash hands, hop in the truck and drive to TSC... Go in store, grab grease, check clearance sections, talk to employees, check out and drive home.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Cam. I had a SWAG circle cutter for the plasma.... that didn't work too well for me. I screwed it up.
What's a couple swears between friends?

So I made some progress today, not much, moving forward.

Cleaning up the drill press column for the reinforcement.

KIMG2166.JPG

I found this issue. A crack... prior to me.

KIMG2165.JPG

Maybe it's a good thing I broke it. I would have hated for this thing to have a catastrophic failure with the column as I was using it.

Once I the column bolted down, I slide the top ring plate on. Hammered it enough to make sure it was tight and level, then measured what the difference was. I cut 4 pieces of steel flat bar to size. Once leveled, I tacked it in place.

KIMG2172.JPG

The wife and I went out to eat so I stopped there to go in and get a shower.
Sometime later this week....be at work for a stretch again... I will get it welded up.

EDIT: I see I put that one flat bar on backwards. I had ground the mill scale off and tacked it backwards. Easy fix.

A while back with the purchase of my single sockets, somewhere and someone asked about the posting of the full Hansen socket trays. I can not find that post nor do I remember who it was.

However, here it is.

Truth be told, I did cheat a little bit. Can you tell which one doesn't belong ?

Pay no attention to the couple of sockets not fitting properly, a few pegs need some "slimming."
