How much mushrooming is too much? I understand the character of hard work. but this seems excessive. Although, maybe I just don't work as hard as I thought.

I try to pound my brass hammer back into shape before it curls over that much but they do flare excessively.

Grabbed this never before seen Streamline body hammer off eBay last week. I honestly don't even see how the reverse curve would/could be used but it's cool and I couldn't resist.

That is cool. Could it be one side is used for coming in at a line in panel from one direction, say over the top, and the other is for hitting same line from a different direction, say from the bottom?

Yes I'm sure that's what it's for but I was tapping with the side that's curved up and it's awkward.

Upward curve has to be for keeping the head and handle away from an obstruction, but yes, i's going to be an awkward swing...

Won this pair of Herbrand body hammers on eBay this week. I've been wanting a ball end body hammer for sometime now. Unfortunately I had to pay for both as they were auctioned as a pair. Both are beauts. I might sell the square/round face hammer. I haven't decided yet.

They're both stamped Drop Forged and Herbrand on the bottoms of the heads. Not sure if they were made by Herbrand or not.

W. J. Ladd 16 oz. forged steel hammer head. Can't find a whole lot of info on this. The second pic shows a cut sheet of a cast-iron version of what appears to be the same hammer head.

Well, there's one. It came with our Alfa Laval centrifugal separator for clarifying finished beer. It's a very high-precision, high-speed (8,000 rpm), delicately balanced centrifuge that requires great care, extreme accuracy and a BIG hammer to repair.

The tin maul also was the perfect thing for beating on a 123 year-old vise without further buggering it up.

The Search function is located in the upper right corner. A search on 'This thread' reveals no references to Alfa Laval prior to yours. A search on 'Everywhere' reveals a dozen Alfa Laval references in various threads, including a classic whatzit? that turned out to be a valve guide pilot identified by @Provincial. Neat maul.

It's green. Made in the former Paschall factory by PLVMB in..., wait for it..., the late 1930s or 40s.

As the Automation Engineer, I never got to see the BFH. Our guys usually used the BF wrench, with a forklift powering it, and dry ice for thermal assistance.

With 5 on site, seemed one was stuck at least monthly.

Is the nested one marked GAM anywhere?

Those were made in BP, claw hammer, and just straight screwdriver sets by several, if not many companies. (possibly still today) I remember seeing them in the late 50's (at least) Mostly I'd class these as "kitchen drawer" multi tools, But its fun to see the different varieties. I have one with a plastic handled screwdriver, and a sliding hammer head with set screws to keep its position.

I don't think I've ever posted a "family shot" of the nesting Hammers. Most are GAM. and I left out the nesting screwdrivers with no heads. The far right are not GAM , but similar. third from the right is closest, but no makers marks and some other slight differences. Maybe an Early GAM? . Included is the plastic handled guy with the sliding head.

I did include the "Spare handles" those 4 are missing the heads the far right is again, not GAM.
