how's the durability on them? TTC killed theirs on the 1st drop test. The matco's spendy but seems well worth it.The Icon light coming up next Monday is pretty handy, I will grab a few.

FYI on the Yukon shelves: I bought 2 and then found similar shelves at Costco for $29.99. The Costco shelves are slightly higher and have a bit more width between the posts, making them more useful for my stored items, all at a lower price.Coming 5/15/2024
Same experience w/LED shop lights @ menards v. HF.
I don't know if we need an 'HF deals' thread but thought I'd post here some drill bits on clearance. I personally picked up the left hand d/bits for bolt extraction duty but the M35 Cobalt set seems tempting. You can match price online from Amazon & ebay for import m35 cobalt but it's hard to beat local. The TiN coated are half that and the HSS are even lower, all on 'clearance':

I think I'm picking one up today as I'm finding I don't have quite enough storage for things and 90 dollars off is a pretty significant discount.
Will the box fit in an accord? I've been pleasantly surprised what I can get in one.

Not an accord, but mdx it can maybe crv. Last two I got was transported via mdx. It left about 10” to hit the roof.
It was about 2 inches too tall to fit in the accord, although depending on how it was packed, it may have been able to fit without part of the box but I ran back home and grabbed the SUV and had plenty of room. I made the mistake of waiting too long (50 mins before closing) so didn't get much choice of colors but ended up with red which works just fine.
I briefly thought about getting the Icon stick light as a supplement light. A couple of my coworkers have the Braun ones.
I immediately didn't like that the Icon stick light has the longer/brighter LED portion on the outside. To me it's much more useful to have it on the inside so when you unfold it you can stick the light on something above you to illuminate from overhead down. The Icon only unfolds 180° where as the Braun (latest one) can pivot pretty much 360°. Not a big deal to me but the battery can easy be swapped on the Braun, the Icon requires disassembly. Depends on what you work on I guess, we work in automotive.
I tried out my coworkers' Braun ones, they seem like pretty decent lights but in the end I decided they are not for me. I ended up getting the Icon puck light on sale some weeks ago which I'm pretty happy with. Nice build construction, great runtime & brightnes levels, has mode memory. I'm pretty sure they are made by the same manufacturer that makes the Snap-on puck lights.
But that's just my preference & again is just a supplement light for me. I mainly use neck lights daily.

I haven't looked at it close enough to verify this yet but I read that you can unscrew the light bar mounting screws and flip it over.
I've never heard of that & that's a great idea if it's possible. Still the Braun articulates both ways which I found useful. I get why they put the longer strip on the outside, so it can be used with it folded. If you disassemble & flip it, no longer have that feature, well you still do just with the smaller LED.
The Braun feels like it's more durable & rugged where the Icon feels slightly more slim lined. But it's not a pocket flashlight so that doesn't matter IMO.
I know it sounds like I am biased towards the Braun but I don't own one myself. I just feel like it's the better of the two functionality wise, especially for the price. Just sharing my opinions so others can compare those differences if they matter. In the end whatever the buyer is happy with is all that matters.
A lot of people say HF drill bits are junk & for the most part I agree. I have that 115 pc cobalt set except when I got it it was branded as Drill Master. It was $99 regular price when I got & of course I used a 20 or 25% coupon. The drill index is junk as expected but functional. I swapped it out for a Huot index. They have been holding up very well for me but I only use them in my mill or lathe. I have seperate sets of drills dedicated for cordless drill use only.
In the recent years I have heard people say the tip grinds aren't that good/sharp. I don't know the truth in that but I have a pretty nice drill sharpener anyway.
Their 29pc TiN coated & black oxide HSS sets are junk IMO, for metal working anyway. Light use they might be ok. Their cheap step drills that ho on sale have really surprised me, I use the heck out of them at work & they last a while. I do have to use a pilot drill for one of them though, tip grind ain't that gold.
Don't know about any of their Hercules & Bauer drill bits, I won't buy them For what they cost.

I called my local HF at 1:30pm this afternoon and asked if they had the ICON led lights in stock and the guy said: "Yes we have plenty in stock" so I jumped in the car and went to the store and arrived 20 minutes after the phone call and they were out of stock when I arrived, so I told the manager my story and he told me these lights sold out well BEFORE noon and he would not give a rain check despite his employee telling me they had plenty in stock……….. Fu@k HF and their sales on zero stock items just to get you into the store.
I think HF is going to need to rethink this current marketing strategy. Vevor is offering a lot of tools with similar or better quality and significantly lower prices. Amazon, HomeDepot, Lowes, Walmart and other major online retailers are also offering Vevor. They ship quickly. The Vevor milling vice I bought on eBay arrived in 3 days. If you've ever ordered from HF online it takes forever and shipping isn't free.
HF has the advantage of the sale if you want it today except they keep blowing it ******* off customers. 50% off on the Icon led is just a loss leader. With a better attitude Chuckster in NJ might have bought something else today and who knows what when he returns to get the Icon led with his raincheck when it's back in stock. Instead they shot themselves in the foot.

I thought about the Icon light today but then I saw Torque Test Channel reviewing it, and it died on the first single 3 foot fall. And it has some weird angularity to the light, it should point the other way.
vevor's quickly turning into the Amazon prime of Chinese tools & specialty equipment. HF customer service/return policy/ and I am told warranty still gives them an edge.

Despite all that **** talking I posted about the Braun being the better light, woke up this morning & decided to buy the Icon light, got me the free magnet strip too. For $20 can't go wrong & I don't even like these style of stick lights.
Really I bought it only to try & flip the COB LED orientation around which looks pretty easy to do. This one won't be going to my work though, either I'll keep it for home use or give it to one of my brothers.
Just like the Icon & Braun puck lights, I'm pretty sure this one is also made by the same company that makes the Snap-on stick lights. The construction is suspiciously the same. Just like with the puck lights, even the USB-C cable & wrapper is identical to the the Snap-on lights.
On another note, while placing an order from Japan yesterday, found out KTC offers the same exact light as the Icon.

Its almost triple the price of the ICON light sale price, but I could not be happier with the astro light. I have had it in use for 4 years.

I have that set. It is decent and covers larger snap rings (wheel bearings).
~ $40 shipped ... I pulled the trigger.

I’d have pulled the trigger on the snap ring pliers set if I already didn’t have the Knipex 4pc set.
I'm fairly certain there's about a dozen 'brands' in Amazon using the same forgings. I grabbed a vevor set for like 12$ though it's not as many as the Icon. I made several posts on the Amazon hot deals thread about the entry level well reviewed ones.
Can't beat HF's walk in and get one replaced if you break a tip lifetime warranty tho.
I bought a set of these in store today. I commented to the store manager that HF was becoming the new Craftsman, and that the Icon line was like the old Craftsman Professional. The 72” Icon box they have on display seems like pretty good quality. The retail price for the 56” is too close to a used snap on KRL box. I’m in the market for a cart and maybe a 56” box, the US General may be the move.
