The Craftsman thin profile ratchets are US made (or at least have USA stamped on them), so I wonder if the AXXESS handles are still US made. Maybe it's labeled made in China because of the sockets.

Picture taken from toolguyd
http://toolguyd.com/2011/03/craftsm...-tool-set-with-pass-thru-ratchet-and-sockets/
Given how much we know the USA-made thin profile ratchets cost, I can't see how it could be economically feasible to manufacture them here.

I can tell you they don't. Package says made in China, so I assume everything inside is made in China.

Agreed.

I know everyone knows there is clearance at lowes, and I don't know if this specific deal was mentioned, but I picked up some gearwrench X-beam ratcheting wrenches, metric and standard, for 50% off, $35/set. They call it a 29pc set because it comes with bits (hex, allen, etc) and an adapter to ratchet them, kind of gimmicky if you ask me, but oh well. They are still 8 wrench sets. The price was right anyway.

They also had kobalt made in USA locking flex head ratcheting wrenches (reminded me a lot of the craftsman ones) on clearance for $50/set (I think that was 50% off as well). And tons of gearwrench individual wrenches, flex head and normal, all kinds of sizes, ranging up to pretty big (didn't look specifically, but definitely much bigger than 3/4), from around $4 to $8 IIRC. Definitely worth stopping by if you've been holding out.

I picked up a set of the X-beam, and the reversable Gearwrench set in metric. I wish I would have found out about this deal a couple weeks back. I read good things about Gearwrench on this site and others.

Put the x-beam ratcheters to work tonight. Put quite a bit of torque on the ratchet ends as well, loosening and tightening caliper bracket bolts. I figured maybe not a great idea, but what the hell, they're new and fully warrantied, wanted to see what they could handle. They were very very comfortable to push on and whack with my palms, and took the torque no problem. I'm very satisfied with them and can't see myself using my standard ratcheters anywhere these will fit. Definitely glad I grabbed them up for a steal, and definitely recommend them.

I found a used Kobalt 1/2" socket set on eBay for $55.00* with free shipping.

It appears to be the older J H Williams made stuff. The good stuff!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kobalt-1-2-socket-set-/220790071746

*The seller is offering the Best Offer option. He had a 3/8" set up for $55.00 OBO. I offered $35.00 and it was automatically declined. I then offered $45.00 and it was automatically accepted.

PS. OK, I admit it, I am a sick man. I bought this set strictly because I wanted the 3/8" x 6" extension to match my existing set. My extension got lost and I wanted the original.

pj rage: the first time i used my Xbeams were on my rear caliper bolts too! ha.

I ordered one of these for in store pick up as it said they had 3 in stock and sears emailed me back and refunded my money and said they didn't have any in stock in my local store even though the website said they had three. This is like the 5th time that has happened on stuff I ordered for in store pick up that it said they had them in stock but then somehow the store can't find them.

I never trust an inventory that shows less than 5.

Could be lost, theft, someone tucked it away until it goes on sale...

I do that all the time. They found the gladiator project caddy I had squirreled away though. Granted it was super hid. I even checked the tool boxes looking for sets since I knew I probably wasn't the only one to do that.

Don't know about GA, but in NJ that's technically shoplifting...

NJ Criminal Code 2C:20-11 Shoplifting (summarized to the point)...

d. Presumptions. Any person purposely concealing unpurchased merchandise of any store or other retail mercantile establishment, either on the premises or outside the premises of such store or other retail mercantile establishment, shall be prima facie presumed to have so concealed such merchandise with the intention of depriving the merchant of the possession, use or benefit of such merchandise without paying the full retail value thereof

They had three in stock and I got one at my local store. I don't know if that was posted elsewhere but they were going fast here.

I bought 2 of these online to pick up at my local sears. When I got there they had one left on the shelf that had a $18.** clearance tag on the box it was in. When I checked out (I also picked up the USA locking flex rat wrenches) there were like 6 people in line behind me so I was not paying much attention but when I looked at my receipt it charged me full price of $24.**. I went back and we pulled it up on the kiosk and they gave me the online price, YMMV.

I went to sears today to pick up two of the little 18 piece Hitachi bit kits that were $3.22 each and found two of the kits that they emailed me and told me that they didn't have yesterday so I picked them up as well for $6.37 each. Sears has to have the worst staff on the planet. The two kits that they told me they didn't have were hanging right on the wall. :shocking:

I work there, and what happens when someone orders an item online is that they get a page for the item and there's two options. They can hit yes they binned the item(or just scan it) or they can hit no if they "cant" find it/don't have in stock. The actual implemented policy is that we aren't even allowed to say no, we have to get a manager to look into it and then call the customer and offer something similar. Only if we absolutely don't have/can't find the item and the manager has looked and led the entire store on the chase for it, can we then say no to a sears .com order.

Man I wish my Sears store operated like that. I have had them tell me they didn't have the item when it said they had 10+ in stock to only walk in and see it sitting right there on the shelf. It has happened to me multiple times. I even complained to the lady assistant manager today and she just said "sorry" because she basically had to. She didn't give a damn about it.

The stores get judged on how high the web order % filled is. We get our balls busted if we say no to an order. Your store must have jackasses from the top down workin there.

I've had a similar experience. It's frustrating to go pick up an order, only to get told that they couldn't find the item. Part of the reason to order online is so that you don't have to fruitlessly drive to the store.

By conceal they mean hiding it on your person. Tucking merchandise under a shelf so nobody else can find it is not considered shoplifting.

Sorry, but you understand it incorectly. Sorry to burst your bubble, and whoever "interprated" it differently, but the law here interprates it exactly as its written and what your referring to is ABSOLUTELY shoplifting and is prosecuted as such VERY often. I only posted a very small section of the law and if youd like to read the rest you can simply enter 2C:20-11 into google and it will all pop up.
I'm not trying to be a **** of anything and certainly am not trying to label or judge you, I just wanted you to know so that you didn't get rohshamboed with charges for something you didn't even know you did.

I'm not a lawyer but I have a little bit of experience in the field...

your wrong, sorry, but you are. Whether you think it's right or not, it's the law here in NJ (which if you'll see in my original post is the only state I was certain on) and I'd have to figure that many other states have a basic carbon copy of the chapters just reworded.
Ive been a cop for 12 years and in that 12 years have seen a lot of good people get sunk because of "their interpretation" of law and how they want it to be defined. Unfortunately the courts dont view misinterpretation as a valid defense.

Of course, the prosecutor would have to prove that there was actually "intent to deprive the merchant of the possession, use or benefit of such merchandise without paying the full retail value". They would have to prove that buddy never intended to pay for it.

I don't bother hiding stuff - if I don't have the money on me, I just ask customer service to hang onto whatever it is for a couple hours so I can go get $$ (or worse case, think about it and maybe cool off).

Lol ^^^^.

Sorry, I was just trying to keep some people from getting into trouble. I didn't expect to have all the lawyers (or curb side lawyers) climb out of the wood work.
I'm done with, we can get back to the important stuff like good deals on tools!

It's a shame that woodcraft coupon isn't in-store.
I can understand why it's not valid in-store. Someone could print out 10 of them and make multiple trips. That would be great for us, terrible for the store.

Too bad there's no coinciding free shipping promo. =(
