Just to confirm, this two pack is probably just a temporary price reduction right? (maybe to help spread some interest in the brand) They are not actually on clearance right? As in, will no longer be sold at lowes...right?

The store i got mine at had them listed with a yellow tag as clearance. Guess they dont sell well, mabie they need to move them to the tool department.

I actually had the coupon in my email which I printed out. It says right on there that 12/31 is the last day. I'm not sure if everyone else's coupon says the same thing or not but I wouldn't waste any time if you are not sure.

I too bought a set for 20%off with the HF coupon. My 10" jaws are not truly parallel so I might buy a separate 10" that has good jaws and just swap them out. Neat design for adjustment kind of like the channellock with the push buttons.

This is very frustrating. I was able to do the 10 off of 25 once last night and again once this morning then not again since. I've read through all the instructions and sugestions but like others can no longer get any items into my cart even though the items say in stock. Is this a done deal or has anyone sucessfully done this in the last few hours?

Looks like Lowes' cracking down on internet purchases with the 10 off 25 coupons.

I just received a call from my local Lowes telling me that they are not taking internet orders at this time. According to the person that called, they were told something about a system glitch and will not take any orders until further notice. If I want to buy them, I would need to go to the store and purchase them through the counter.

maybe this?

I placed an order last night and picked it up today. Just now I put some batteries in my cart and the promo code (from yesterday) is still showing up. :headscrat

I did not attempt the check out, however.

I ordered and picked up the 2-piece plier set yesterday evening, and just placed an order for Knipex lineman's pliers and the $10 internet discount was applied. I received e-mail confirmation of my order, but haven't received confirmation the order is ready for pickup since they're closed for the evening, though.

The codes still work, I just did it again with mine for the second time. I even forgot to change the ship-to store to a different one in town and it still worked. It could be that the codes posted on SD are just plain worn out. Mine on the other hand has hardly been used so I'm sure that's part of it.

The codes still work here but I still haven't been able to purchase the cobras because it says they're not in stock even though they are. Oh well at least I can still use it on other items.

This *****, their site says the stores have anything I search for, but, when checking out it tells me it's unavailable at any location I try. Guess I miss out on the $10 off deal, but, will still go pick up the cobra 2 pack. Thanks for posting the deal up!

Well.....took my daughter back to college in Erie tonight and stopped at Lowe's and bought this set. Prior to this I will admit that all of my tools were Snap On only, but I can honestly say, WOW! The quality of these pliers is awesome, I definitely see more Knipex in my tool future. I can also see that being a member of this board is going to get really expensive!!!! Happy New Year everyone.

Apparently Lowes doesn't want to sell these - I've been to a couple of stores that show in-stock and they did not have them. Even tried the online order/in-store pickup deal and no luck. The store canceled it.

I'm going to hit up Lowe's later this afternoon for a return, and to pick up a pair of these. Just so I understand correctly...Lowe's will honor "competitor's coupons", and you all have been able to get them to honor the Harbor Freight 20% off coupons?

My Lowes tried to say they didn't have them. I had to help track them down on an end cap. The 2 pack is not with the rest of Knipex tools. It was on a discount/sale end cap display.

Ran by my local Lowe's while running some errands. I had called first with the item number, to make sure they had them in stock. They said they had 4 in stock.

When I get there I notice they have a Knipex display, but no combo pack listed anywhere. I went to a cashier with the part number and asked for help in locating the pliers. After a couple of calls to departments in the store, the cashier tells me, "They're on a J-hook in isle five." I don't know what a J hook is, but I have a pretty good idea. ;)

Walking down isle 5 (same isle as outlets, outlet covers, etc), sure enough...I see 4 blister packs hanging from the shelving / racks. I should note that these are nowhere near the other hand tools, or the other Knipex products. I notice that the (yellow) tag reads $39.9x, marked down from $5x.**. I remember reading someone else running into something similar here. I take the pack to the cashier, and have them scan to verify price...it rings up at the correct $29.** price. Sweet!

Then I ask if they accept competitor's coupons. She says they do. Sweet again! I pull out a 20% off coupon from a Harbor Freight magazine ad. She kind of looks it over, and asks "Where is this from?", so I pull out the rest of the HF ad / coupon page. I say "Harbor Freight", and she says "Ok!".

Clickity clickity on the register, and an additional 20% is knocked off. I walk out with both pair of pliers for about $25. Score!

Thanks Garage Journal! :)

Well i'm happy to report I found them. Online inventory showed the Hawthorne Lowes had 15 in stock, so I went there. The guys in electrical were very helpful but could not find them for 1/2 hour. Finally found them in a box in the overflow storage above - no shelf tag, nowhere to put them but they existed.

I was too excited to try the Harbor Freight coupon deal.

What is kind of scary is how these are not flying off the shelf faster than they are when they are almost at a 50% discount even without the coupons. I wonder if either Lowes shoppers really are not that interested in Knipex or Lowes has a seriously large amount of inventory on these they want to move. I'm not complaining about the nice price or anything of course :)

The average Lowes shopper has no idea what Knipex is. If they need a tool they go find the cheapest possible Task Force brand tool.

I've always wondered why all of their Knipex and Greenlee stuff is next to the electrical. I realize that these brands sell insulated tools, but I wonder if they wouldn't sell better with the rest of the pliers? :headscrat

does anyone know of any new discount codes that work in 2011? I might justify picking up a second set with a $10 off $25 coupon.

When I was at Lowes today picking up another Knipex set for my Father I noticed all of the Channellock branded pliers are now in the electrical Dept as well. That is a complete change from a week ago, the only Channelock items still in the "Tool Dept" where the gift pack pliers with 6in1 screwdriver and the rescue tool. I wonder why they seem to be pushing the pro level tools into the corner? Unless it's a plan to see if anyone notices or cares. If they don't see a demand for pro quality i guess it's more junk on the shelves.

That's a good point... if you don't walk down the electrical isle they are easy to miss since the rest of their tools seems to always be at the front of the store.

I don't understand that either. Also the big box stores never try to upsell the better brands. I would think they would make more money of the premium models/brands and would put some sort of signs/cards/fliers to educate customers on the benefits of buying a better tool. Kind of like a good/better/best approach.

they make the most money off there brands it all about the IMU "initial mark up" if you have an in house brand Like Kobalt or Husky you have a better IMU

I suspect Lowes and Home Depot purchase their Kobalt/Husky hand tools at prices close to what Harbor Freight Pays for their Pittsburgh hand tools - maybe not exactly, but close. Most people want to get stuff 'cheap'... and I mean, who doesn't like a good deal or to go bargain shopping. So they are probably happy selling their in-house brands as it is less of an investment for them and no doubt people will buy those lower priced tools... Heck, some of them aren't even half bad. Personally I think the Kobalt sets of pliers they sometimes have on sale are better than the Harbor freight ones, and it's worth a couple dollars extra.

The only reason why HD and Lowes probably even bother to sell more well known, name brands is because they want to reach a wider customer base and get more serious DIY people or professionals in there as well to buy tools. Carrying brands like knipex or channellock is more about satisfying a niche though, rather than satisfying every joe-shmo that walks in there. Well, channellock may be a bit of an exception since it has such widespread popularity, but you see where I am going with this.

I don't really see the obsession with buying the absolute lowest priced tools on the market. Sure, the initial feeling is great - wow look at all this stuff I got for $20! Then again, I often find that once I get home and try using them a little bit, I end up having buyers remorse and think to myself; damn, ya know I wish I just got one nice tool instead of 5 pieces of mediocre stuff. Sure, sometimes you can really get something decent for cheap, but I've come to learn that often times I'd rather not - especially if it is something I expect to be using a lot. I've bought some kobalt stuff from time to time but generally I just stick to the 'better' brands.

I guess I sort of got off track with this thread but yeah the $10 off $25 coupons are dead. Seriously though, even at $30 or with a possible 10% off the Knipex set is still a great deal if you are interested. I'm actually kind of surprised how long this thread has lasted. Seems like the deal got lots of people at GJ into a frenzy :)

I went to the Hawthorne store also this afternoon. The twin pak Knipex was on the bottom shelf with no price in the electrical section tools. To confirm the price I had an employee who was pricing stock at the end of the aisle check the price. It was $29.97 less 10% military veteran's discount, I didn't have any coupons with me. Great pliers!

My local store has 2 cases of these in stock...I can grab them and ship them at your expense (although shipping will eat into savings)
