IMG_1308.jpegIMG_1307.pngThis was the rig with the tig. Don’t need all the extra gas coverage with the laser. Don’t have any pics of the current setup, but can get some.

Not sure why the photos posted twice. That was before I got the 1 1/8 gas lenses. The tig was too hot and very inconsistent at lower powers.

What are the tubes for?

I did some thin wall sanitary SS a few years back, I would have to go find my notes for any details but that was a fun project. I've also worked with a some fine mesh filters that were TIG, the volume wasn't there to setup a laser process but it would have been a much better weld.

You post about this before? There was someone asking all sorts of similar questions related to nuclear something...

Kinda wish I got to “play” with it more. Got it for this one purpose and haven’t really gotten time to play with it. Unfortunately it will be transferred to a rad lab soon where it will spend the rest of its days. The gun at least will have to be rad waste. But hopefully this will afford me to get another one to play with in the nonrad shop.

Laser threads are always the same, 1 pic that looks like it was taken with a .02mp phone and only enough info the leave ya hanging.

Prove me wrong 🫣

Kind of difficult to get really good photos. Things are only 3/16!dia. But I can tell you they are way better than the tig welding we were doing. That was also pretty good.

I usually inspect with a stereo microscope. But it is not equipped with a camera 😩 This will become very interesting when these little capsules are like 100R on contact!

Sorry a little late now but fusion orbital welding of small diameter (1/4") tubing is very common for high purity gas connections in the semiconductor industry. It's a tiny little TIG head that spins inside a split "jaw". The most common vendor in the field was Arc Machines, but Swagelock makes systems as well.

Thanks for the response. Orbital welders are crazy expensive! Last revision of this machine was running a tig with 0.020” tungsten. Still would make the haz too hot. We are putting some very nasty **** in these capsules and really trying to keep the dirty bomb option off the table. With the laser you can touch the weld immediately after it’s done and it’s bearly warm.
