Yes the older ones had more rows of suction cups on the handles and did not say snap on.
this "SNAPMOM" person first leaves a bogus comment and neutral feedback which was removed by ebay. THEN she leaves a negative on another item, will will soon also be removed. the negative was on a $1.25 socket, which was missing from inventory so the order was cancelled. this stellar individual, in an obvious retaliation to me getting the first feedback removed, went ahead and destroyed my 100% rating and left an unwarranted negative. she also "deals" snapon, and likely figured she would hurt her competition in the process.
just thought you guys would appreciate knowing what this person is really like.

...Snapmom sent me a sliding Tee for my Snap-on Ferret set and refused payment for it...
The person posting above must have accidentally forgotten to mention that their eBay selling handle is “diversifiedgoods”. GJ members may want to have that in mind when making their future tool purchases on eBay. Sometimes character assassination can have unintended consequences.

Looks like a nice late 30s or 40s carry box. Is there a tray?
What kind of an idiot thinks it's a good idea to infiltrate a website under the guise of a petty slanderous alias to make accusations about one of the site's most beloved participants that also imply that all the rest of us are dupes, fools, and bad judges of character? HAHAHA! Suicide Mission Accomplished!
I would leave a message of testimony for anyone who has not yet had the opportunity to experience snapmom's integrity, generosity, and esprit de corps, but there isn't anyone who fits that description here!
Go back to the dark underside of ePrey negative hell where you doubtlessly belong.
Sweet! Snap-on called them MechaniKits. Yours looks like a K-25. The K-24 was smaller, 20" x 7-3/4" x 5-1/2", and had two (2) hinges. The K-25 was bigger, 21-1/4" x 8-3/4" x 7-1/8", and had three (3) hinges. Both of them had leather handles. They were gray before the war, gray and sometimes OD green during the war. This was my Grandpa’s tool box in WW2
Yup. Wartime.Yes sir I do have the key. I always leave the lock on the box 'fraid I would lose it. The lock says Made in Corbin Lock Comp. New Britain, CT USA
My colleagues will think I've gone soft, but it's your grandpop's box, and anything you as his grandson decide to do with it in the spirit of honoring his memory and service is a good thing, including a spiffy pearl white finish in the back of a truck. The leather handle will really pop against that finish. (And if you want to replace that, the best source is a handle in better condition salvaged from an old suitcase from the same era, found at a flea market or an estate sale.) Plenty of them have been trashed over the years or painted bright red etc, and enough of them have been saved and preserved "as is" where it's not a sacrilege to erase its history. Allow me to add if only for my own good conscience that it would look great "as is", too, in the back of your truck, with the bottom de-rusted, and then the whole box coated in BLO. It will probably get more attention that way, too, especially from the oldtimers. But again, I like your idea, and please come back and show pics when you're done.up a creek said:I want to eventually paint it white with a pearl finish and put in the truck.

It was very likely made by Duplex Mfg Co in Sherman, NY, by the way. I believe they made these and the cantilevered boxes, which Snap-on called HandiKits.

HandiKits, for sure, because the patent number is stamped on them. But what evidence for MechaniKits? Aside from “Made in USA” stamped on the back, the only marks I see are on the closures, stamped “Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn.” Admittedly, these could have been purchased by Duplex and attached to the box, but that seems a more complex explanation.
Up a Creek, any stamped marks on your box?

I think the answer may be in this:

But I’d like to find a free pdf instead of buying the paper![]()
Beautiful box up a creek and I am glad you are preserving it. Private Lugnuts, so you mentioned that the box was made by Duplex of N.Y for Snap On. Does this mean that Snap On did not make their own boxes? Have they ever made their own boxes? Thanks
