Here are some of mine.

This oddball I built when I was 16 and board in shop class. It has one motor with a reversing switch, so you switch belts and reverse the motor to run the other side. The belt grinder portion doesn't work very well, but it was my first homebuilt grinder.

This is the machine I turn on the most often. I built this belt grinder Dec of 2012 from junk I had laying around:

Wow, more pics please. Great job. Can you post some specifics, like belt size? Where did you get your contact wheel? That looks like a great entry level knife makers grinder.

I need to get around to doing a write up in the homemade tools thread here. Here is the link to my write up on the HAMB. It's post #1904 http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8954978

The contact wheel is just a rubber faced caster wheel that I cut true in place.

This Matco is in the garage I'm buying. Seems Matco no longer sells grinders, and I can't find anything about it. Runs great, smoothest grinder I've encountered (not that I've encountered many)

Anyone know who made this or anything about it?

It could be a Wissota. It might be possible to confirm that if you post a photo or two of the whole grinder, including the base and the wheel guards, and the outlet ports on the back of the wheel guards.

Ok, here's the best pics I have available. Closing on the garage next Thursday so I can get all the pictures I need then.

I looked up Wisotta grinders and this is a dead ringer for one. Looks like they no longer make grinders but still offer support for them.

Anyone know what the reputation is? Never heard of Wisotta before.

Wissota was one of the most highly respected US grinder brands.

They made grinders under their own name, and re-branded for many other companies, including Delta and Milwaukee.

They're only making ice skate sharpeners now, but they do still offer some support and replacement parts for their former line of grinders.

I e-mailed Wissota, and they verified that it was made by them in 2001. Garage Journal FTW as there was zero info on the Matco grinder online, and Matco customer service hasn't had any info for me either.

Good to know they are good ones! I assumed with the Matco tag on it that it was a premium unit but also was certain Matco didn't make it.

Here are some pics of my two Wissota grinders. I got the 7" one recently in the original unopened box. The 6" unit is Wissota too but has a Bluepoint tag. The belt sander attachment is also tagged Bluepoint. The stand came with the 6" and I'm in the process of building a frame to mount both grinders onto it.

It works great and I can dig up the book on it. The belt steering is adjusted by the lever on the inside and it holds perfectly. Others I've used seem to need adjustment every time it turns on but not this one.

I dont think I have it mounted correctly. The table for the disc sander is not level and the belt obviously points out. It is at belly button level which seems dangerous with no shield.

Can I see a side shot of your wissota? I`m interested in the wheel covers.

After some wheeling & dealing, buying & selling, for $60 out of pocket I picked up a Cincinnati model 104, 12x2 pedestal grinder. It has a 3 phase, 2hp motor. Hooked up to a Teco vfd and runs great. Need to make new tool rest since old ones are badly worn. Will some day restore, but for now it's an inexpensive upgrade to my Baldor 6" grinder. Not much info online on these older vintage Cincinnati's, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Pup: nice purchase and only $60 or did you buy a couple thousand dollars worth of other stuff and get it for that price. i know what others will say so i'll let them do that.

i sold a 1944 Cincinnati 1/2 HP bench grinder to a friend because he wouldn't quit drooling over it. i saw him the other day and it's been a few months and asked if i could buy it back for the $100 i sold it to him for and he is quite happy with it. he said the company that made it is still in business and they have great customer service so i'll try to get that information if you PM me that you would like it.

if i remember correctly they now make huge machines for big factories, but not 100% on that. what i do remember is that i bought it from the estate of a very handy guy that probably bought it new and had several other quality tools.

After purchasing some new old stock surplus items, I then resold for 3x the original cost immediately. Actual cost of grinder was $300. It then only cost me $60 out of pocket money from above profit made within a day. I saw it there the first day and went back on the third day to negotiate the asking price and pickup.

Yes Cincinnati still has a present in the heavy machinery market. Their website has a very nice vintage look to it. Would they be able to help me identify the vintage year of this model? Thanks - David

Thanks for the info. Will find a number on their website and call Monday, if not I'll pm you.

Got the Teco FM50 on Tuesday, wired it up and fired it up without a hitch. Both wheels need to be dressed, they are out of balanced due to heavy gouges at front. Took less than 10 seconds to get up to speed and over 7 minutes to coast down. I felt like Dr. Frankenstein, "IT'S ALIVE, IT'S ALIVE!" After changing the deceleration settings on vfd, it now coast down to stop in 60 seconds.

I believe once I address the wheel issues and plant the pedestal base better onto the concrete floor, if will sound and feel smoother.

not sure how vintage this is so i will share it here. i found this in the shed at my parents house, started right up. i was going to see how long it would take to spin down but it appears to have a brake. stopped almost instantly. the right hand shaft has a threaded extension im assuming for some attachment long gone.

any more info you could give me would also be nice.

I'd be more inclined to think dry bearings. I'd personally let that run unloaded for a few minutes and see if it makes a difference. Any grease in the bearings might soften up somewhat when it's warmed a bit.

My current grinder 8" Baldor that I restored a couple of years ago. Very quiet and smooth. After using this grinder you can't really use anything else!:bounce:

Didn't think of that, thanks.
