Inside was even cleaner than the outside. Lamp socket looks original, but no way to turn it off without unplugging so I'll have to find an alternative socket with a switch.
That will work and is good if you want to control the lamp separate from the grinder.Inside was even cleaner than the outside. Lamp socket looks original, but no way to turn it off without unplugging so I'll have to find an alternative socket with a switch.

Looks the same as your first picture minus the yellow wire in mine. I'll have to pull the top cover to see where it goes. Thanks for the pics.Erty,
Here is a picture of my 257.191401 where the light was switched on an off with the grinder.

And my 397.19670 with a switched lamp socket before I fixed the broken switch:

If you follow the wires, yours looks more like my 397.19670. What do you think?
Nice place to hang out and work.Just a group picture of three of my grinders and also my new car lift.![]()
The Yellow wire, IIRC, goes into the winding assembly. Yes, I found the wiring diagram.Looks the same as your first picture minus the yellow wire in mine. I'll have to pull the top cover to see where it goes. Thanks for the pics.

Here's a wiring diagram. It may apply to other Block models, also.

3rd one listed on you diagram (397.19581) is what I have. I guess it's safe to just move that lamp wire to the other side of the switch.
Nice place to hang out and work.
What year is your Vette?![]()
I seem to remember that now, I still think it's88 Callaway Twin Turbo

? [emoji106] [emoji106] really like the sanding attachment. ......Stopped at a local consignment shop and I couldn't walk away from this 1/2hp Cap-Start block---with the pink wheel and sanding disc attachment, it looked too damn fine. I know I have too many grinders and need to sell them off, but this is my favorite of the breed. Clean and runs very smooth.

What did you use for rubber pads on the bottom of the stands?
Cool sanding attachment. Any idea who it was made by?
Restored all three and here are some before pictures.Nice lineup, they all look brand new! Have you ever turned them on??
Seriously, did you restore those, or is that the condition you got them in?
Available on the west side of the Detroit metro area.
1/2HP missing all the guards, shields etc. and beat up. But with good stand.
$45

Bill
Doc Doc Doc. Another one followed you home huh. Lol. ....Gone at 4:50 pm today.
Thanks though.
I know I know I .... keep thinking, I can help that poor Block grinder.Doc Doc Doc. Another one followed you home huh. Lol. ....

EX: of all the guys that probably didn't need a block with a sander, but it looks like a great buy and working tool so maybe you'll find room for it.
I'm just a sucker, I suppose, for the 1/2hp cap-starts. The best one I ever had went to McBrownie---it just felt "powerful"---but this one is close. Just got my first Wissota grinder (branded Milwaukee), and those are pretty nice but doesn't have the torque of a block cap-start or the smoothness of a vintage Baldor. Time to thin the herd....

I buy them off EBay and use a wood 1" spacer between the rubber foot and grinder stand.

I like your idea on the rubber feet.Nice looking machine. . Did there happen to be a date on the bottom plate?I bought this one on a heavy duty stand I wanted for a vise along with an old Delta scroll saw on a stand. Just sent it to Minnesota.
Picked up this incredibly clean round top 1/3 today. And for all the vise aficionados a very clean Morgan Chicago 150. Spent a little more than I was hoping for but this one is nice! 1966 date

I didn't have a round top before, but its not like I needed another 1/3 HP. Doesn't have the accessories, but the knock outs are still 100% in tact, so its like it never had them. Otherwise I may have passed, or given it more time for maybe a little better price.
