I had my wires crossed. I gave that set to a buddy of mine because he didn't have any tools that week. Your 1/4" and 3/8" drive kit is a part number 01919, and it looked something like this originally, although this one currently listed on ebay has got some oddball pieces inserted in it:

Very cool! I could be wrong, but I believe those might be the first examples on the thread. Search function says so, but someone may have posted without naming them in text. Memory isn't what it used to be, but I'm not going through 16 pages to double-check.
It is. I went through all 16 pages yesterday looking for something else...ha ha

I may have posted mine years back in a thread on those drivers. It's the same, no variation far as I can tell. Pretty cool to see them.
I don't remember that thread and may have missed it completely. I have seen them before, ironically, in a thread about the Plomb versions, when someone posted a link to their eBay purchase, and the lot also included a few Herbrand. So I was aware they were made, I just haven't see one in the wild, or on this thread. Unlike the Plomb versions, Herbrand did not advertise them for sale in their catalogs. At least not as far as I have seen in the 1937, 1942, or 1948. I have not looked for them in any others.

The Snap-on versions are pretty cool. The fob part of the key is a 6-point box end and the Snap-on branding (italics, so 50's or later) is actually on the shank of the key.

I have a Long C Craftsman.
Those keychains have variations and one of them has Don's Auto parts on the back.
Cool. As a type, they were considered a complimentary giveaway item, for promotional purposes, so that makes sense. If you're interested, GJ'er @SilverDeck conducted an extensive survey and developed an excellent report on the production history of the Plomb versions. Links to both of those threads can be found in the A-Z Index in the Sticky at the top of this forum.

Here is a little something that didn't show up in a text search, though it may be hiding in just a picture

Herbrand Van Chrome S-42 Hex drive adapter. Have found it in the 1966 catalog, Filler Plug Wrench, for Chrysler Corp female differential plugs

Horrible condition as things are often found here on the coast. Hex is 9/16", 1/2" drive.

Picked it up at a big hoarders estate sale, May of 2022, attached to a SK ratchet, top right.

I regretted leaving this Herbrand Van-Chrome no. 316 screwdriver behind last week so I grabbed it yesterday when I returned to the store. The disintegration has begun and there’s no stopping it now; but I just happen to have a P&C handle in need of a blade, so I’m considering doing a swap.
IMG_1101.jpeg IMG_1100.jpeg

I really like the original handle though so I it’ll take a little psyching up to destroy it. It looks like it will be a good fit.

I like the way they tapered the tip.

Here is a recent pickup. It is an Herbrand Van-Chrome amber handle #312 screwdriver in pretty good shape. You can see some rust on the inner shank, but the handle is odorless (knock on wood!).

Hi folks, new to the forum. I typically collect vintage carpentry hand tools but have quite a few older auto mechanic tools. I have a Herbrand s-10 1/2 inch ratchet wrench that I am trying to get information on. I have found quite a few with the bullet style handle, however, this wrench has a curved fancy handle. I have located 1/4 inch drives and breaker bars with this design but nothing on the 1/2 inch drive. Hopefully you guys can provide some information, thanks.

Yea, thats all I find as well, wondering if it was stamped wrong.
It's not stamped wrong. S-11 was their model number for a 1/2-inch drive ratchet with a longer handle, regardless of the handle style. Everything else except the OAL is identical to the S-10.

Herbrand catalogs can be confusing and don't always represent production.

If you look in Catalog No. 52-M (copyrighted 1940), you will see no M-10 ratchet, the J-10 and S-10 ratchets with the flat paneled handle, and no S-11 ratchet.

If you look in Catalog No. 53-M (copyrighted 1941), you will see the M-10, J-10, S-10, and S-11 ratchets all with that new, ergonomic, pre-bullet handle style.

If you look in Catalog No. 53 (copyrighted 1945), you will see no M-10, the J-10 and S-10 with the flat, paneled handle (prewar style!), and the S-11 with the new ergonomic pre-bullet handle.

If you look in Catalog No. 54 (copyrighted 1948), you will see the M-10, J-10, S-10, and S-11 ratchets all with the new bullet handles.

If you look in Catalog No. 54-M (titled "Revised October 1949," but copyrighted 1947), you will see the M-10, J10-, and S-11 with the ergonomic pre-bullet handle style, but the S-10 with the flat, paneled prewar style handle.

Here is a tiny Ball Peen hammer I grabbed a few months back. Finally had some time to clean it up and move it to the user drawer. Little bits of what I assume is factory blue pain in the low spots. Marked BP-2 on the back side.

Looks like it was offered 1945-65 at that weight,

PXL_20240303_015245689-X3.jpg

The red on the handle is obviously not factory, and a little bit chipped off as I cleaned it. Maybe a few decades of occasional cleaning will clear it up completely.

Here is a J-9A I just got. It doesn't have script on ratchet body like Snapmom's, instead it is engraved into faceplate. Herbrand must have changed their ratchet design across the board, going from 4 screws holding faceplate on, to 2. Head shape changed slightly, becoming more oval. The main forging itself is basically entirely different from the J-9.
Cool Herbrand ad from the May 1949 SAE Journal magazine, showing the Speedratchet J-9:

Here is a small 4" Herbrand No. 310 screwdriver with the shirt-pocket clip. I believe from the 40s?

It is well worn so a bit difficult to see the markings... but held upagainst the light it reads:
HERBRAND
VAN-CHROME
Nº 310 U.S.A

^ does that auger socket at the bottom of that image have a hex opening?
(that's not the proper term and I can't think of the right one at the moment.)

Bitstock wrench is the normal term. I see those 70% square drive, 20% hex, 10% die holder

Some really old herbrand. I think lugz has some of these
Not with script logos!!!! (Just a little jealous! :) )

I commonly refer to it as "The Meat Can Set," because it was found inside a WWI meat can and that's what I still keep it in.

I have never seen a catalog or trade mag reference for these. Between us we might could start to back into the spec empirically. It's also interesting that between your pieces and my pieces there might be what looks like at least three different production runs.

- My handle has a very plain block text branding. My extension has the Diamond-H forge mark and block text logo. Your handle has the script text branding.

- My sockets have no branding, just sizes. One of your sockets has script logo branding, the others have block logo branding.

Bk it is a 1/2" square brace bit socket. Appears to be an adapter to use the sockets with a brace.20240319_213225.jpg

This small “slide hammer” was designed for the tri-five chevys and is used for removing the wiper arms
