It is Killing me...I miss my freebies and have lots of rebates to spend...

Totally agree. Although I admit I finally got some use of the 11% off rebate this time by having them price match walmart's on a sauder harbor corner tv stand. An extra $20 rebate back I wouldn't have seen by a purchase through Walmart is nice.

Now let's just hope that tomorrow is a real ad and not another extension of 11% off.

Those Dalluge Dawg hammers are the ones I talked about here many pages back. Super nice big California style framing hammers for that money, made in USA by Vaughan. If you can use a big hammer for good price, I see *no* reason not to let one of these fill that bill. Highly recommended. There is some forging variability with these, as with any forgings. They all function fine, but there may be some cosmetic variability among them. They have a real nice balanced feel to them, not just a big hammer. Doesn't feel as big as it is when you swing it due to the good balanced design in the hammer head. - Paul

Its only 560 miles to the nearest Menards......Doubt the savings on the hand wipes will offset the cost of gas though! :eyecrazy::D

Wow, I was out only $30 on my trip this time! Wanted to buy a new tree for my yard from lawn and garden as the harsh winter killed two of mine. The one I wanted was already gone though, so it was some 2 cycle oil and small engine tune up parts for me and out. I just don't need much of anything at the moment really new. I hit the garage sales in the summer and find the greatest deals known to man there! Menard's would have to be like 90% off to compete with that! :) - Paul

Menard's jacks the price up 12% and then gives back 11%? What a deal. I bought cement before their"sale" and it was still cheaper then when they were giving 11% back

Ummm....I've been there the day before and the day of the 11% sales, and have never seen the prices increase by 12%....That cement was most likely on sale the week before the 11% sale. Do you really think they re-mark every single item in the store just to get an extra 1%, then have to lower all of the items again the day after the sale?

aside from some ok tool prices ocassionally, I don't understand why anyone likes Menards so much. As a do-it-yourselfer, I don't get it. They won't cut or thread pipe like HD or Lowes will. They won't cut or sell wire by the foot. The list of 'services' that you get from HD and Lowes, as well as any local store, goes on and on. Unless I am in the market for a free-after-store-credit-rebate tarp that I will throw away in 2 weeks and need cat litter, cheese balls, and some shampoo, I will go elsewhere.

just my opinion...

I agree. The only reason I use menards is because there's one 5 minutes from my house....The Lowes and Home Depot are both 15 minutes away. On most projects I run back and forth 5 or 6 times on a bigger job. The quality of everything is extremely low at Menards, but the convenience is the only reason I use the place. Their quality of wood is the absolute worst I have ever seen.

Some things are local. Meaning, where I'm at Lowes is real high price and HD too relative to Menards. Menards is comparable to quality on most things, and where I'm at, their wood is better and cheaper than the others. Where you are at, it may be different. I like Menards for many things. - Paul

The quality of *construction lumber* is the worst. Can't get five decent 2x4 studs in the same trip. The quality and selection of *hardwood woodworking lumber* is the best of the box stores.

It's the place to go for carpet, too.

Indeed. My nearest Lowes is only about a block away from Menard's. Despite that close proximity, Lowes prices are still usually quite a bit higher than Menard's (and rarely see the clearance prices mentioned in the Lowes thread).

It's no surprise that their respective parking lots reflect that.

The nearest HD is a bit of a drive, and it's pricing seems to lag a bit behind Menard's on most things as well, although not as badly as Lowes.

So in my neck of the woods, Menard's is less expensive on most things, and is also the "home team", to boot.

As I typed that, I was actually thinking about the hundreds of 2x4's I have to dig through before I find enough straight ones to complete a simple task!

One example of price disparity b/w Menards and Lowes: I recently was looking for a 12/2 cord to replace the cord in an old Craftsman electric motor. Lowes had one for $14, whereas the one at Menards was $8. The quality was about the same even though brands were different. Granted, there are things cheaper at Lowes so it helps to shop around. The Lowes in my area is across the street from Menards so its easy to price shop :)

Ha ha, ok here we go! Today went shopping for the week at Menards. They have a deal today on Bosch U shank scroll saw blades about $4 after rebate. Really nice quality. Picked that one up. Also, Stanley made in Taiwan stubby racheting screwdrivers for $1 after rebate! Really nice for that money. And a really sharp 12" hand pruner blade for tree branches for all of $1 after rebate. And my favorite repeat deal, 4 for $5 super awesome gigantic enormous chocolate bars your choice. Mr. Goodbar is my favorite. Great stuff. And you can still buy good old "Shasta" brand soda there too. I like my tool deals with food deals at the same time! - Paul

Only bad thing about the shopping this week is my January gift card bought with the 11% rebate is now used up! Only lasted me 7 months! Hope they do it again next year. Good news is I still have about $100 in rebates to use or coming. That will last me a good while. - Paul

Was in there today picking up 75 sheets of 5/8" OSB and ~2500 sq ft of white corrugated metal for finishing out the inside of my shop..(which turns out to be quite a bit of weight..). And saw near the registers they had 2" legitamate ratchet straps for $13-14 buy one get one free. Could get the flat hook or j hook style. These are the 3,333lb working load, 10k lb break strength ones. I use the heck out of the j hook type and $7 each is at least half what anybody else sells them for. I figured I probably needed 4 more to add to the 10 or so already in the bed of the truck.

I have quite a few of those straps from Menards, they work great. A bogo is a bit odd for Menards too!

Yeah...I'm a big fan. I noticed later these are the padded handle version also. Not that it matters much but all the others I have are hard handled from menards. Link to the strap info here. Online doesn't show the deal just in store.

Pretty good FAR with a nice quantity limit: TiteBond Wood Glue 8 oz is $2.49 with a $2.49 MIR, rebate limit is 12. TiteBond is good glue and what I use for my woodworking projects.

Meguiars Ultimate Compound is $7, good price.

The shop lights are again $9.99 after rebate.

Whoa, how did I miss those titebond glue free after rebate? I gotta get a bunch of those fast! Aargh! Gotta make the 3 mile trip to Menards again just for these.... :)

BTW, for the DIY or woodworkers, if you haven't tried the various Gorilla Glue products, they are all great. For exterior the Gorilla Glue is top notch. I repaired some wood trim on the exterior of my house with that and married some new wood to old with that, avoiding replacing a large amount of wood int he process. Works great. Titebond is good for any interior needs just fine. I've pretty much switched to Gorilla Glue for exterior work, and now use Polyurethane caulks for any exterior use too, no more silicon or acrylic caulks for me ever again. - Paul

In there again tonight getting more material. And some free wood glue after the tip from this thread. Noticed great stuff pest block foam for $1 after rebate. I bought a bunch of them and already burned thru three cans going all around the newly constructed 40x60 before I start in finishing out the inside. Appears to be similar to regular great stuff foam but has a bitter ingredient to deter bugs, mice, etc.
