Anyone recommend a starter set of 1/2 inch impact sockets? I will be doing auto work (lug nuts, brake and shocks etc.) I have both foreign and domestic cars.
Get a good basic set of ebay for about £20, i have loads of off brand sockets that get used every day and are absolutely fine;

If you want to spend a bit more then i would recommend a set by tekton, i have a deep metric set from them and they're also very good, but honestly i wouldn't say any better than the cheaper sockets. In fact my impact sockets by Facom don't seem any better than the cheaper sockets.
I'd recommend getting a set of deep and shallow sockets ideally, however if your only planning on getting 1 set i would go for deep sockets, they'll reach lug bolts better as well as loads of others.
You'll want some extensions and a swivel joint also, tekton again seem to make some good stuff but mine come from a company called Sealey (Doubt you'll get it there) it all came in a kit like this
How much this'll all cost will depend on the brand you go with and if you want SAE sizes too. Don't spend too much on sockets, go with a good but well priced brand and spend the money you saved on them on better tools that the sockets will attach to.
