Wout: it's hard to believe you spiffed that little rusty box up with just a toothbrush. did you use a product like Simple Green or something similar that you might have over on your side of the pond.

congrats on filling it up with most of the correct tools too.

looks great!!

ALL: i picked up a nice old wood shaper made by Rockwell that came with a lot of cutters too and hoping to use it this summer with some of my woodworking projects.

I also started a thread in General Tools for shapers in case any of you want to follow along as I learn how to use mine or maybe you have some tips and pictures of your shapers to add to that thread. here's the link:

Wout: i'd love to see a few pics of your COMBINE and it sounds kinda like a SHOPSMITH that my dad bought maybe 20 years ago. it's got a lathe, table saw and with more attachments can be a bandsaw and a few other woodworking tools.

I don't usually use brake cleaner on painted stuff cause our version tends to take off all the paint and it smells terrible. not sure if you have Simple Green over there, but if you do maybe try it and see how you like using it and it's results. it will remove paint (usually not original paint if it was primed and painted well) if you leave it on for a while, but it does smell a bit better.

Wout: i'm not sure if your brake cleaner is the same ingredients as ours, but almost immediately after putting brake cleaner on any painted surface I've heard ours starts stripping the paint off. maybe that's a bit overstated, but it sure does smell bad so I'd rather use Simple Green.

if you have good results with it then that works for me. yep I saw you washed/rinsed it off and nice to see another rusted almost discard tool box saved and filled with it's old tools.

since your Combine is probably a vintage tool why not post it here? your call if you want to post it at all, but I'd love to see more tools that you and your friends use on your side of the world.

Wout: thanks for taking the time to pull it out and take some pix. I'll be using a SHOPSMITH in the near future and google it in the meantime cause that is what a lot of home shops used if they were space challenged.

hope you are and your loved ones are staying clear of the Corona and best of luck finishing up the shop if you might have some extra time on your hands.

I found a pair of MINT Klein and Son Diagonal Cutters dated January of 1930! If anyone is a Klein collector or is just interested in them PM me.

Ps can’t figure out how to post pictures on here... lol I’m new.

That's a nice looking Bug. Working on air cooled VWs generated my interest in German tools.

Can you tell us more about your Bug? Did you do a restoration or any modifications?

Wout: personally I love wood handled old tools and your Hazet looks like a keeper.

that is a nice VW Bug. is it the soft top sort of old time sun roof?

I learned to drive on my dad's 63 VW Bug and drove it around our city neighborhoods when I was 12 by myself. I guess since my dad grew up on a farm and he learned to drive earlier than that he thought i'd be ok. he even taught me how to shift without using the clutch which to some is a BIG DEAL and to others that know how it just makes sense.

are you on your 68's first engine? I never liked the heating system on our 63 or how the windows would fog up without leaving one or both fly windows open and I think my dad had 3 engines in his 63 before he gave it to my little sister in 1977. I still remember looking at the sticker price on that 1963 on the VW showroom floor and it was about $1,800.

take care and keep finding cool stuff for your collection and for us to admire.

Wout: did you add all the guages above the shifter or did they come with the VW when you bought it? I like the shifter too and is it wood. PURDY CAR and nice picture of your part of the world too with a little sunshine that always is nice.

I love Hazet tools with their quality and markings, but we get so few here. so thanks for sharing

Hi Wout
I gave your thread a good going through. Very impressive:thumbup:
I don’t think I’ve even held a Hazlet tool much less pushed one of their carts around.
When we come to see my cousin, I will be sure to drop in.
Your shop, projects and tool collection will be definitely worth the trip.
Mind you I’m NOT allergic to Lukken either:lol_hitti

Wout: I think you need to start posting on our GET HEALTHY thread cause those look tasty and we all need a CHEAT DAY now and again.

the first thing I usually eat at our holiday dinners is the lefsa with brown sugar and butter on them that my mom buys or my niece makes.

great news about your lathe which could come in handy when you need more parts or information.

We are preparing to tear down our old farm house that has one small old barn still standing. While cleaning out the barn I found an old oil plug wrench still in its package. Will be taking it out and tossing in the tool box. May be handy every once in a while.

WOW, what a nice Hazet collection!! WOW!
Collecting Hazet myself, older than -65. If you dont mind, I could use your thread to show off some tools once in a while? :)

I would like to begin showing this 804. Well it looks like a 804, size is correct (530x200x200mm) but the handle is different (same as on the 2500WA) and the one top compartment is divided in two not in three as normal on the 804.

I have just finished the restoration, came to me covered in gray paint. I have painstakingly removed the paint on the outside, leaving the inside gray. Just love the way it look and cant wait to fill with hand tools:)
