I always looks for new posts from you! I absolutely love your garage story! One thing you might think about with your shovel/tools storage is rust on the floor with the handles in the "up" position. I do prefer hanging them upside down so things stay off the floor. Looking good!! So now what's next???
Thank you  Great point on the tools, I will flip them. Still waiting on some electrical, plugs, lights etc. Waiting on a quote...............

I'm always amazed at how quickly and efficiently spray foam goes up. It's really good stuff with low maintenance. The extra cost should be well worth the benefits.

Pretty neat idea with the tools also. The project has really come a long way.
GJ doesn't always notify me when you post something new so I make it a habit to cruise by the thread often.

Thanks for following along! Very happy with the spray foam. I agree it was definitely the best option.

For long term energy savings payback, it was the best option for my build even though it was the highest cost. For immediate air, water vapor, and most bug sealing, it was definitely the right option for my wife to be able to live in the building.

Some updates………. I drove to Ohio and picked up our compressor. It was an 800 mile round trip. Left at 0600 and got home at 2200. Other than the crazy price for diesel I am glad I went and got it instead of shipping and possibly getting damaged and then having to wait on a replacement. It is a beast, weighs 760 lbs. strapped down the pallet with 4 heavy duty ratchet straps and no issues the whole drive.

Whoa that is a beast. You can inflate a bunch of tires with that ;). Sometimes if you want a job done right you have to do it yourself. I also noticed the camper in the back. It looks like you picked the right size building.

👍 My wife saw it the next morning sitting on the trailer on her way to work and said WTH do we need something that big 😂 Of course we do!

I am going to build a platform for the camper. I bought 6” casters then I can move it around if needed.

Due to the weight of the compressor I had to look at safe ways to remove it from the trailer. Then once I got it on the ground be able to move it where I wanted in the shop.

Last week I picked up a HF folding shop crane when they went on sale. I thought this would be a good option of taking it off the trailer, but due to the height this option was a no go. I backed the trailer into the shop and was looking at renting some pallet forks for the Bobcat. I wasn’t in a big hurry being able to have the compressor out of the elements in the shop.

I called the place where we got our machine and they had 4k HD forks OEM Bobcat for $800. Bobcat is selling them for $1200, so I thought this was a great deal. Drove over Saturday and bought them. Best investment ever! I was able to easily remove the compressor and put it in place😉

Picked up a HF folding crane (cherry picker) when they were on sale. Had to drive an hour to find one in stock, but definitely worth $250. Seems very well built and I think I will get a lot of use out of it.

I have been looking at garage cabinets for the new shop for several months. I just could not see spending $400-$500 each on lowes/HD, assembly required thin metal cabinets. HD had a sale finally and I felt I could justify the cost. I got 2 metal cabinets 36”w x72”h and 18”deep for $500.

We picked them up yesterday. Decent cabinets for the price. Very well packaged and easy to assemble. They will work perfectly for the new shop.

My temporary storage 😂

No electrical yet as in outlets, bay lights etc. I had gotten a quote and have another one I am waiting on. Should have something locked in by the end of the week.

That's a good idea. I would do the same thing for my garage fridge if the food wasn't in the way!

Sales are getting tough to find at Home Depot. I don't know if it's everywhere but my area is even setting an annual dollar limit for the veteran discount.

Since this isn't your first shop it'll be interesting to see where you put outlets and how you space them out. Are you going to do some of the wiring yourself or will you hire it all out?

It wasn’t bad ordering and having them shipped to the store. They actually arrived a week earlier than the availability showed. I used my veterans discount as well. I haven’t heard anything about a limit, I will have to ask the next time I am in there.

I was thinking about DIY, but we decided to let the professionals take care of it. Plan for outlets is one on every post, 3 circuits.
-Dedicated lift outlet, 20 amp dropped from the ceiling.
-240v 50 amp for compressor and on off switch at the door.
-Welder plug on a 50 amp.
-Outside GFCI on back side.
-Dusk to dawn Wall pack light on front and rear with switch at the door to turn off if needed.
-Man door light
-outlet on middle wall between garage doors for jack shaft openers
-Waiting on quote for the lights and specs to see how many we will do.

1st quote was double the price on labor compared to 2nd.

Labor rate for 2 men is $110 hour! I thought it was a mistake when he said that I had to ask him again and clarify 😁 He should have the estimate to me today.

From their website:
How much can I save with The Home Depot Military Discount?
  • The Military Discount applies 10% off the price of select in-stock purchases made by eligible participants.
  • Eligible participants receive a $400 maximum annual discount which resets each calendar year.

It seems like electricans and plumbers are always in competition for the highest hourly rate in the construction field. If we all had the time and knowledge to do what they do without 20 trips to HD in a day then we would. But I don't. If you get an efficient and knowledgeable electrician they are definitely worth the price of admission. Crossing my fingers that you're next quote is more reasonable.

Interesting on HD, I did not realize that👍. We have had some bad luck with HD on appliances when we first moved here so we have been using lowes. We prefer lowes but figured we would give HD another chance. I don’t think lowes has any restriction? However I did read on some different threads they were not honoring the discount on lumber probably due to the high price. I guess the way to look at it is anything is better than nothing. With the way things are currently anything helps.

Thanks, I think this electrical estimate will be good and already have in my mind this is who we will go with. Very professional and impressed with the guy who came out to look at the shop. They also do a veterans discount of 5%🇺🇸

Liftmaster 8900, they seem like great openers! We got 3 remotes, 1 for each vehicle. Love how quiet they are. Money well spent, very happy with the choice. When electrical gets done I am going to have a dedicated circuit and outlet mounted between the openers for a nice clean installation. Right now just using an extension cord to power them from the one outlet in the shop.

Talked to the electrician and very happy with the estimate. They are ordering everything they need today and we ordered all the fixtures except for the man door light. Still looking to see what we prefer, leaning toward one over the center of the door.

Installation, labor and materials not including fixtures $3200.

-outlets is one on every post, 3 circuits.
-Dedicated lift outlet, 20 amp dropped from the ceiling.
-240v 50 amp for compressor
-Welder plug on a 50 amp.
-Outside GFCI on back side.
-Dusk to dawn Wall pack light on front and rear with switch at the door to turn off if needed.
-Man door light
-outlet on middle wall between garage doors for jack shaft openers

I ordered:
8-RAB H17XL LED-high bay.

2-RAB Wall pack lights

Love liftmaster openers like you have! Mine have been faultless for 12 years! And wow, I guess I saved a ton doing all my electrical work myself....well, not totally. Had 2 bare lights and a few receptacles put in. Then I replaced the subpanel with a much larger one and ran all the circuits I wanted plus for the 2 mini splits, air compressor, lift, etc. One suggestion I have that I got from the GJ is to run two 20 amp circuits side by side, i.e., a dual gang box with separate circuits on the 2 receptacles in the box. It's helped me a lot! Also consider future ceiling fans, ethernet, phone, audio (speakers), and anything else you can possibly think of for the future. I have a circuit ready for either heated floor or electric vehicle charging also.

Great choice on RAB lights that’s what I just put outside for floods. For decorative/functional lights check out Steel Lighting Co. they make some really nice barn lights!

Great to hear on the liftmaster. My panel is a 40 space for the 200 amp service, so plenty of room for anything in the future. I know nothing about electrical, yes I am sure I could do it, but I would rather have a professional. The cost of materials like everything else has gone up and we are very happy with this estimate. Another electrician quoted $6600 . It will be so nice to have it all done in a day or two instead of me trying to figure it out for several weeks or more.

Just some pictures of the inside and where things are at. Ordered the lighting and found a man door light at HD. The high bay lights are in and waiting on the wall packs. They should be in early next week so we can get the electrical installation scheduled. 4567516B-CF83-4C45-AFB3-9B46B8079596.jpeg8832B45C-6C94-4E9A-91B7-3A2EA4AEEC65.jpegBA9E8090-9D86-49F1-A2F1-B1705AAB322A.jpeg

Those pics look like postcards for American living. Everything looks organized and oriented like it's ready to do it's task at a moment's notice.
My stopwatch is ticking for how long it takes the lights to be installed ⏱🧐😆

By the way, I like the new avatar for your handle. Falling Down is one of me and my dad's favorite movies. It's how I feel when I drive into town to go to work sometimes. A couple of weeks ago a vendor deployed an upgrade to a mandatory application that western electric companies use to communicate with each other. The upgrade had 16 known bugs before it hit our systems. The number climbed to 24 within the first hour of us using it. I got the Michael Douglas look on my face when he ordered the hamburger. 😡😂

:ROFLMAO: It's killing me waiting! I am waiting until the electric is complete to mount anything on the walls, ladders, bikes, etc. taking my time and planning, which I find to be the best part!
