Was a few Dowidat items, shifters, multigrips, sockets ... produced down here, by a bloke called Coffey, back in the day.

Internet info is a bit sketchy ... but it seems he was Dowidat distributor ... and making some licensed products.

... at least he made/sold spanners ... and not wrenches .. ;);) .. :D

... and it appears someone has recently borrowed the Dowidat name,

... or snapon/bahco/whoever, is whoring out the brand ..

... coming out of the Kabo, Taiwan factory apparently.

The Dowidat brand belongs to Toolmart Australia:

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the BEST Dowidat tool of all: Here it is, The Tire Iron. Two of these came with my BMW motorcycle, and I absolutely love them. They have just the right curvature, just the right roundness on the pointy end. When you're fixing a flat a bit left of the center of Nowhere, having the right tools counts!
I thought they were original equipment, and was surprised that they didn't quite fit in the tool roll. It turns out that they're not. The originals are a bit shorter and fatter and are made by Heyco.
Since the job is ever so much less unpleasant with three irons, I found another to complete the trio. It wasn't easy, but it was worth the effort.

NOS Dowidat wrenches. Metric, Whitworth and a couple of standards.
Found these at a local tool store and there are more to be had.
I going back soon to take a look for more so if anyone is interested let me
know and I can maybe pickup something you have been looking for.
Will be a mixed bag, no sets. The wrenches are in boxes mixed in with
other wrenches.
Dave

"The effort"...you got that right. I've found one of these tire irons so far, after a few years of searching. They are few and far between. I use my two Heyco Irons along with the Dowidat single iron. I'll keep searching for one or two more...

Dowidat ... Not made in Germany ...
wow never saw something like this !!!:rocker:

I've got a couple of very old adjustables here. Both very old (about 40+ years), and not chromed, so kind of rough condition (particularly the 8"). They both still work fine though. :)

The 4" is made in Germany and the 8" is made in Australia.

I was almost embarrassed to post those old wrenches because of their pretty poor condition. Anyway, I has some time last week so I cleaned them up a little bit. :)

I found one interesting thing after I cleaned them up, the old "made in Australia" 8 inch one is marked "ASTRO CHROME". I'd never noticed that before. Has anyone else noticed any old Dowidat tools with that "astro chrome" thing going on?

BTW. That old 8" wrench was my father's. It must be around 50 years old or more, and it would have had a hard life! So even after cleaning it still looks pretty rough. Still works as good as new though. :)

Is this torque wrench still BELZER or already DOWIDAT?
One of my neighbors found it in his old house attic together with three more torque wrenches in the box, it's very old but looks like never been used.

Having used the same dowidat and hazet tire irons for 15 years inherited from my dad using them(and others) for 30 years, i will agree. Dowidat tire irons are an industry finest. Best quality tire iron me and my dad have ever used. Im always on the lookout for more as i know how good they are.

Adjustable Wrenches

My mother’s new Mercedes Benz, when she bought it in 1963, came with Dowidat tools. The wrenches were a black finish and came in a maroon cloth tool bag.

Some years later, she gave me, quite by coincidence, these adjustable wrenches. I told the story here

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323842&highlight=mother's+wrenches

and so won’t repeat it. I have had those wrenches for more than 35 years and only used them once the other week. They are precious to me.

Andy

There was a couple of, large sized, old aussie made Dowidats, on fleabay recently ... I stopped watching, and started laughing, when bids went past $70au. :headscrat

I either have no appreciation for tyre levers ... or they must be good gear .. :)

Looking good kiraj ... You'll be able to open a dowidat collection museum soon

I have a Dowidat wrench that I came across at a Pawn Shop. I wouldn't have even bought it if it didn't say "Made in Germany," but it has become one of my favorite wrenches at this point. The quality is pretty amazing!

Sounds just like what happened with Adidas and his cousin splitting off and starting Puma
And Peter Kenworth leaving the family truck building business to start Peterbilt.

And the Aldi brothers that had discount supermarkets all over Germany and many foreign countries. They got into an argument over whether or not they should continue to sell cigarettes. They split Germany into Aldi Nord (North) and Aldi Sud (South). Then they divided up the foreign countries The ones in the US are Aldi Sud but Trader Joes is owned by Aldi Nord.
It happens all the time, everywhere. In NY City's lower east side the institution Gus' Pickles had a split and a family member founded The Pickle Man. LOL !!
