Re: My garage, repurposed!

Got this today to add to my line. Only $20.
una4e3eq.jpg

I have a top to put on it that matches my other desk/bench, going to do some rearranging this weekend.

Nice score on the bench for only $20. I think I need to spend a week in your part of the country and fill up a semi trailer to bring back. Everyone here thinks their junk is literally worth its weight in gold.

Also glad you posted the link to those wire rack organizers. I've been looking for those myself.

It seems pretty sturdy. It is missing a bolt holding the drawer slides in the back middle but that's an easy fix.

I actually posted a non working hammer drill for sale on craigslist for $20 and a guy wanted it. I met him on my way to get the table. I got a $20 bill and handed it to the person with the table. No money out of my pocket! Good trade for me![emoji2]

Sheet metal is thin and the drawers are flimsy. I attached mine to the wall and that helped. I beat on mine, put more weight in the drawers then you are suppose to and it has held up ok. You can find them with more drawers too. Good for a home shop if you can get it cheap.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

I picked up this little 6 drawer cabinet to mount either on the side of my chest or just sit on the bench. Thought it was pretty cool.

That's cool. I want it..... I have a spot in mind for it already so send that my way. I wouldn't want you to have to rearrange the garage AGAIN. LOL That would be cool as a desk piece for small tools sort of how I have my machinist of my benches.

Thanks Gerard. I've been great, sadly I haven't had much garage time. Busy at work and with the family lately. I've acquired a couple clearance deals at Lowes but haven't made much progress on anything out there. Looking forward to some time this winter as life slows a little. I've been keeping an eye on your thread, looking good. I'm feeling like you and thinking of getting rid of some clutter and unnecessary stuff.

Hope all is well with you! Thanks for checking in!!!

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Thanks for keep up on me. Yes, been "simplifying" things to put it lightly. After collecting, building and rebuilding I'm coming to finish line and ready to enjoy time in other places.

Im looking foward to seeing your process and stuff you find. Even though I'm not picking anymore I will live vicariously through your build lol. Good to hear from you.

Have a good one, Gerard

My garage, repurposed!

Its been a long time since I posted on here!!! I have been so busy the last 6 months. But I have made some time to mess around, maintain the vehicles, pick up some new freebies!

Here are my latest free scores:

Just got two of these drawer bases. They are all metal, ball bearing slides. Heavy!!! Not sure if they were bases for a desk or what but I love them. Deep drawers will give lots of room!

Got three of these HON metal shelves
885d10663c78335ba24a458070795c5e.jpg

Picked up this compressor for $25. Had a small leak at the regulator. I tightened it up and it's been holding air no problem.
cd1eb59f9d691908e3f50b71a2efd88c.jpg

Hung some of the metal cabinets I got from a kitchen that were getting tossed. Been rearranging and going through tools organizing drawers.
eae2c26504e18a07e534c71f1986b370.jpg

We are moving in the next year so I haven't painted much else. Once I get a bigger space I'll do some more craftsman red black matching. Always on the lookout for good freebies!!!

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Thanks all. The next thing I want to add are an air hose reel for compressor, a drop light reel by the garage door opener and an extension cord reel.

I also forgot to post I got 6 free shop lights from a guy upgrading to LED lights. Using two of them now and will save the rest for future use.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Got busy today rearranging. Replaced the craftsman work bench with the two new free drawer bases I got last weekend. These things are HEAVY! The drawers are awesome. Now I'm going to line them and start rearranging some tool storage.

A buddy let me store my utility trailer in his back yard so now I have room to work and play now without having to move the trailer out. Excited for that.

Thanks Gerard. When it gets warmer and I have time I think I'll paint the two new drawer base cabinet frames red to match. I love the drawers. So deep and very strong.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Got my new air reel mounted and plumbed today. Wife got it for me for Valentine's Day. I took her and the girls to our favorite roadhouse peanuts on the floor place for lunch and they took me shopping at Harbor freight. Then we went for ice cream. Good V day in all.

My garage, repurposed!

Did some tool organization today in the new drawers. Just a few pics. Felt good to get some stuff done outside today, it was close to 60 degrees and sunny(very uncommon in western WA in Feb). Kids played while I cleaned up some in the garage and the backyard.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Been getting some work done lately. Reorganizing, adding this, getting rid of that...
972c7d176d7deb025cf4acccb101894a.jpg

Picked up this small craftsman cart for 30 of CL.
16efbccbed2db5493d7dd838edd545bd.jpg

Bought 8 of the harbor freight storage bins. Have been sorting through and organizing hardware, electrical, fittings, etc. going to build a rack for them all to store in as well.
e062c03df2b92b291f5b79652881def3.jpg

Change outlet for garage door opener to a quad and mounted a reel.
cb555f184247878ec04d17d3a71468d1.jpg

Started working on organizing a socket drawer and building my socket collection.
11508c531d5bba45ac50301cbc5837ad.jpg

Cleaned and swept floor and finally made enough room to park one car in the garage.

Forward focus is cleaning, organizing and downsizing junk and keeping the good.

WOW now that's the money shot.

That looks great and that cart is awesome find. I do have a suggestion. In this shot.

If you move the black cabinets back up to the entry door and move that stuff down would that help you park 2 cars in there? My thought is moving those to front wall would make them stick out where space wasn't as important. I've seen some build some awesome racks to hold those bins. If I had the space I really like the one a GJ made about 5 ft tall and on casters. I really enjoy your place your place and post. Keep up the good work[emoji106]

Thanks Gerard! I've thought about moving the black ones up towards the house but that is too much work! Lol. I'm fine for now. My wife and I have discussed our next house when we purchase one early 2016, top on the list is 3 car garage minimum or two car with tandem so we'll have more room. Also with RV parking and room to eventually build a shop. Also I explained to her that I want to insulate and drywall the garage(if it isn't already), seal the floors and paint it before we move in.

I love the little cart. Thinking I'll replace the cheapo plastic casters with nicer rubber ones so it'll roll smoother. Thinking about what else to add to it. Maybe a screwdriver holder and some misc attachments to roll to the driveway and work on the cars.

Well good luck in your search. I would go with the 3 cause at least park 2 at have alittle work area in the 3rd bay. The garages down here are small and lucky to fit 2 in a 2 car and most of the 3's down here the 3rd bay is/ was meant for a golf cart. I rarely see 3 in any and most I see are used for a work area or lawn tractor. I would like a 3 myself but that's not gonna happen for a looooooooong time so I'm stuck in my place. One good point is at least you have a good collection of stuff to set up new shop.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Great progress on the garage. It's looking not only organized but ready with working space for the next project. And parking a car in there is always a bonus too.
Wish I could say the same. I started out the winter with room to park one car and somehow have managed to find too many good deals on cabinets and steel and stuff to where mine is once again full of future projects that need organizing/completing. I'm still waiting for that first 60 degree weekend here to get back out there and start spring clean up. Still in the 20's here. :-(

Thanks Drivesitfar. Great seeing you again, simply amazing what you're hoarding over there. I am excited to add components to my shop to make it more functional. I want to pick up a welder soon and start tooling around with it.

Thanks Gerard. Looks like since all the garages are too small down there you'll need to build your own!!![emoji12]

I'm slowly building back up on stuff. I had other things like a table saw, miter saw, drill press etc but I sold it all a few years back when we moved to Arizona. Now I am on a mission to acquire and find new things at a much cheaper than retail price.

I love what I've done so far and enjoy spending time out there. Need to find a project to work on soon(Jeep, old bronco, or something cool).

Going to pick up a new to me old card file cabinet tomorrow so I'll be posting up some pics of it. This guy has upwards of 10 old card style cabinets for sale so I get my pick. He sounds like a fellow collector/hoarder so I'll be in heaven!!!

Thanks rmalkow! Im sure mine will be messy again. Like I told Gerard above, going to pick up a cabinet or two tomorrow to repaint red/black. I clean it up then get bored and rearrange and mess it all up again.

It's been a rough winter for all but here in the northwest we've been enjoying warmer than usual temps for a few weeks now, less rain than normal and this weekend is looking to be in the 60's!!! Pretty stoked about that. Going to get some yard work done and finish staining a section of our fence we didn't finish last summer due to rain and bad weather. Thanks for chiming in and checking out my progress! Have a great weekend!

Made some deals today! Now I've got some painting to do. Got these 4 cabinets for 140! And traded some plastic storage bins for a craftsman dual action sander to start prepping them.

Pretty excited about these. Also picked up a new 18v grinder to add to my dewalt cordless collection. On clearance at HD for 79 and used a 5 off Coupon.

While there I found windshield wipers on clearance for 6.57 a piece and buy one get one free! So I stocked up on those for a future change out.

Good morning so far! Time to start some more rearranging!

SD: those small cabinets are cool. are they two individual drawers on each level or a double drawer? what are their dimensions?

if you can't find a good place in your shop for those they might be good trading stock for something i might have that you can use.

also the 8 drawer cabinet you were able to score is in almost new condition.

cheers

They are a double drawer. They are very cool! The guy has a few more still for sale if you want his info. I'm going to clean them all up and repaint. Thinking I'll make a bench out of the 3 for a drill press and vise.

The 8 drawer is almost too clean to paint! But I'll do it up nice.

Subscribed. Office supplies are great for garages. And I thought I was getting good at craigslist hunting. I have much to learn.
