SD: your yard and pool look AMAZING. i like the look you are working on in the garage/man cave too.

just an FYI. i found a spot for the cabinet i bought from you a couple years ago that has been sitting in storage so if you want to see what it looks like check out the Organizing 201 thread and here's the link and i just posted a couple pictures.

hope you are enjoying the heat of the desert, and i know you'll like the winters better than up here.

Thanks!

The cabinet looks great up there! Glad you finally got it in place. The work bench looks great too! The heats not too bad. The winter will be wonderful!

My garage, repurposed!

Well, it's been a while since I posted anything. We made it through the hot summer of AZ...no prob!!! It's cooled off now nicely to be able to do some thing outside and I've had the last week off so I got a ton of projects done around the house and maintenance on the cars.

First was re organizing and moving some things around in the garage. I Assembled more racking I had, sorted a ton of hardware and ext cords and misc wiring that had built up and hung up some more signs and things. I gave up trying to get both cars in the garage, it's just too tight and makes it annoying. I like it better now though, I have room to bring home more goodies and it's easier to get around and doesn't feel so closed off.

Next project is to build a rack for these. I've seen all the other threads showing the different ideas. I may go the route using a sheet pan rack.

I also went through some of my dads old tools and pulled out all these pipe wrenches and found this old Stanley vise. Pretty cool.

Wednesday our '02 explorer sprung a leak in the radiator. I watched some YouTube videos, priced them out, picked it up Thursday morning and had it all put back together in around 6 hours. While I was in there and had it all taken apart I replaced the oil filter adapter gasket, it had started to drip oil and that took care of it completely. Super excited about that being fixed. So within all that I got a coolant flush and oil change. Not to mention the A/C is blowing colder now. Maybe because I cleaned and blew out the A/Ccondenser coils.

Replaced front brakes on the Honda. It's getting new tires soon and I'll probably take it to Honda to have a 90,000 mile service done. Maybe.

I cleaned the pool cartridge filters and deep cleaned the pool.

And lastly today my neighbor and I thatched, over seeded with organic mulch, starter fertilizer and applied winter blend seed.

I also trimmed palm trees the other day and now have a trailer full if palm tree branches and garbage to take to the landfill. That'll be next weekend.

It's been a busy 9 days off. I'm ready for a vacation. Back to work tomorrow though!

Our neighborhood is having its annual garage sale next weekend! Hopefully I'll find some trinkets.

SD: i'm guessing you didn't get a chance to buy that cool vise you emailed me about, but there will be others. if you want one refinished i know a member close to you that does a fantastic job finding and restoring them and i've even bought a vise from him and had him ship it to me.

your garage is looking great and usable too.

can i mention that you might want to save all the old computer, printer and other cords before throwing out old stuff that isn't working. these cords are very usable for our vintage tools that need one. or look for them when you are out and about garage sales cause usually in good shape and only a $1 or $2.

cheers

any updates and is it just about 75 degrees during the day now to maybe about perfect weather for a past Washingtonian?

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Nice to see you back on here.:) I like your garage decor. I noticed in one of your drawers of oils and anti freeze, you might want to put a plastic linear under that stuff in case they start leaking.
I had a plastic bottle of jack oil, and it started to leak on the bottom. It was a couple of months and it dripped on some good stuff that was under it.:dunno:
The pool sure looks inviting, while I'm looking out my window and its 39*. I love the palm trees, man they are full grown and make your landscape very attractive.
Show us what your trinkets from the GS.

Drives you know I didn't throw any away! I organized them and put them in drawers. Lol. The vise sold unfortunately. Like you said there will be others. 60's to 70's now with overnight lows in the high 30's and low 40's so we're starting to feel actual cold temps in the morning. Heat in the morning in the car, a/c in the afternoon. Hehe. Nothing else new, I'm in Florida all week this week at a work conference. Enjoying the beaches of Naples, FL staying at the RITZ Carlton! They treat us well!!! Got here Sunday so a few of us could enjoy the sights and beach before work events started Tuesday. Can't complain.

Good idea, I'd hate to have slimy oil and antifreeze leak down through. Thanks. The pool is great but it's freezing now. Next year I want to look into how much a heater would be for it, we already have natural gas plumbed to the back yard so that may help! I'll post some pics when I get a chance!

Thanks for the replies!

Re: My garage, repurposed!

SD: yep i've heard the solor covers are plenty in AZ since you only really need heated pools about 3 months if that a year. invest the money in a hot tub if you really need to pay for heat and want to soak in the winter.

I won't mention 120 degrees in the shade days if you won't remind me about 75 degrees in December. DEAL?? there is certainly the good with the bad, but i still think WASHINGTON is a pretty nice place to live and maybe perfect weather for 4 months a year.

cheers and hope you took an empty suitcase so you can maybe hit an old guy's garage sale while you are in FLORIDA and bring home some souvenirs.

Man, if knew you gonna be in FL could have set something up.

Sorry buddy. We were on a tight company schedule. Had a great week though. Naples is beautiful in December. I'd hate to be there for a hurricane though!

My garage, repurposed!

Well, as usually happens months have gone by without a post. I've stayed up to date reading others posts but haven't updated mine. Been super busy traveling for work and such, plus both our girls are playing tee ball and softball so sports are taking up a ton of time, the wife coaches tee ball and we both help out the coach with softball. I've done a lot of rearranging and getting stuff where I like it so here are some pics. Haven't done much collecting as of late, actually sold some stuff at a garage sale a few weeks ago. Not much though! [emoji6]

Recently laid out and hung all my license plates. Counted 58 total. Lots of WA but glad to get them out of the box.

Last weekend I put up a shelf and mounted the compressor up by the 50' reel. Nice to have it up and out of the way. I re did some fittings and got it holding air like a champ!

88e54bebe21fd649bb1391f81fa49b5f.jpg

Picked up a small shed off Craigslist for cheap a couple weeks ago so now I got the lawn mower, pressure washer, weed eater etc all out of the garage!

And a couple backyard shots since it's supposed to hit 100 this week and we'll be using the pool for the first time this year!

Got a fire pit table recently too. So nice.

Next project is building a rack for all my parts bins, trying to decide if I want to build it out of wood or get a bun rack and modify like I saw on someone else's thread. We'll see.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

SD: your place looks AMAZING. how do you like it compared to the PNW? does the 120's bother you during the summer or is it all AC and sunshine?

you might consider using a bunch of those WA license plates for trades and i'll get you some names of guys that trade if you don't know a few. i think there is a license plate thread too that might give you more members names.

great idea with the compressor up high on a shelf like that. i haven't thought of doing something like that. did you see it here or think of that yourself? also did you get it up there by yourself or did you have help or a lift to borrow?

keep up the great posts with pictures as we are just starting to get out of the rainy season. we've probably got another month of clouds and rain 20-25 days out of a month the last few months, but i think summer will be great this year.

any time for garage sale finds cause i know you like them or have you curbed that so you can park cars in your garage?

cheers

Made it through last summer no prob. It's hot yes and garage time is cut to mornings and evenings but the rest of the year it's beautiful. Plus you just skip from ac to ac like you said. Our house has two units one up one down and is insulated really good and has good Anderson windows. Keep it a comfortable 78 or so when it's 115 outside! The worst part for me is hitting any traffic jams during the heat. It's hard for the cars A/C to keep up when you're just sitting there. I got them both recharged before we moved down.

I did see someone else mount their compressor up on a shelf with a reel on GJ a couple years ago. Always wanted to do it, finally got around to it. For what I use it for it's not like I ever take it out of the garage and the 50' reel reaches the street and side parking spot. Nice to have it up out of the way. I did lift it up there by myself. Got it up on my shoulder. Lol. I'm 6'4 and hovering around 260 so it wasn't too bad. Probably should've gotten help just in case I lost my balance in the ladder! [emoji16]

I have hit a few garage sales lately as spring is when all the neighborhoods have their community sales. Our neighboring communities is this weekend so I'll have to go take a look. Got a practically brand new Weber portable table top propane BBQ for $8 recently. Haven't found many good tools yet. The wife found a 12" crescent brand crescent wrench the other day on the road and picked it up for me. That was sweet!

SD: see i told you that your Washington plates might be good trading fodder to get other plates from around the USA or world.

you might want to start picking up extra plates from Arizona and go to garage sales and pick up more plates from the old guys that come to Arizona for the winter and have plates to sell from their home states.

I always wanted to move to Scottsdale, but my DREAM girl only wants to visit the desert.

cheers and looking forward to more pictures and stories as you have time.

Got the pool filters cleaned this morning. And greased all the o-rings. A before and after:

My garage, repurposed!

New addition to the family this last weekend!

2017 Ram 1500 Bighorn, every option except leather and sunroof. Very nice. We're excited! Planning to get a travel trailer next year once the wife starts working again.

Fits in the garage nicely!

SD: you'll have to park a mile away at garage sales now so you can still get the great prices on your garage sale finds. just kidding, but maybe i'm not.

My garage, repurposed!

Picked up this paper cutter at goodwill today, figured it may be worth something. Looks pretty vintage. Looked it up on eBay and they're going for 26.99-77 or so. Thought it was cool and got it for $5.

Re: My garage, repurposed!

Got some updates finally!

I wanted to be able to wash the new truck better myself. I ordered some new stuff off amazon last week. I picked up a foam cannon for my pressure washer with all the different tips as well, along with a new wash mitt, a grit guard and a new drying towel. The foam cannon attached right to my 13 year old Honda pressure washer and foamed up our civic awesome! Unfortunately I didn't take any pics. I plan to wash the new truck in the next day or two so I'll get some pics.

We're heading out camping this weekend for Memorial Day with our neighbors so we did the front brakes on his Tacoma Saturday. It is so nice having all the tools readily available. My Dewalt 18v impact took his two front wheels off like nothing. Brake job would've been a lot quicker but we had to mess with a caliper dust cover and ended up going to the auto parts store and buying new ones but then didn't use them after all.

While we were at Auto Zone I picked up their car wash bucket deal for $20. It included a 5 gallon bucket, 64 oz. Meguiar's gold class wash, Meguiar's tire shine, Meguiar's interior detailer wipes, a microfiber sponge and a microfiber towel. I already planned on buying the car wash and a bucket so it was a sweet deal!

Today I took my youngest with me to Target and picked up their 3-tier utility cart to use in the driveway for washing cars or whatever. I plan to mod it a little and maybe install some pegboard on each end for hooks, a surge strip with long cord to the garage and spots to hang the different tools to detail our cars. We had a good time and enjoyed some tacos and Mexican food at Rubio's for lunch!

It fits nicely under the end of my bench too so that's a plus! It's on sale right now at Target for 24.99 and you can't beat it. All metal with locking castors.

We hit Goodwill on Sunday and I scored these two treasures!

Also did some rearranging of the bench to see what I like. Still can't decide where or if I want to mount the vice or grinder. Undecided on if I want them permanently mounted or maybe mounted to a portable type bench or stand.

After:
Didn't get a good straight shot.

I'll post some updates of the cart when I add the extras and wash the truck.
