my wera kraftform chisel screwdrivers had "made in czech republic" on the packaging and have the same hex shaft as those snapon ones, FWIW they are my favourite drivers as they have taken 5 years of total abuse, from smashing tiles of walls to prying floor boards and worse, and yet they the blades are still fine, now snap on have made them with my favourite handles its even better.:bounce:

im not slating czech made stuff or anything but i wish mine said "made in germany" instead, i dont know why i guess its because i more readily recognise germany as producer of quality tools over czech rep.

I like the look of those new Snap On's!! I'm thinking Wera for the shafts as well,

Bought my chiseldrivers from chadstoolbox a few months back and they had "made in Germany" on them....maybe i got old stock? I have to agree with the posters above though, they're by far my favorite screwdriver set. Tough as nails and they tips stay like new. I suppose I'll have to pick up a set of the new SO ones to compare ...I'll use any excuse I can come up with to try new tools!! :bounce:

It's possible that the new Snap-on diamond Phillips screwdrivers could be related to the Wera's "Rocko Series" (model 330) with hexagonal blades. The tips have both ACR and diamond coating. Here is a link to the features of the "Rocko Series": LINK.

Amazon sells individual Phillips and slotted "Rocko" screwdrivers; and a 6 piece Phillips set. Here is the link: LINK.

Somehow I knew you'd be along :p

Rather nice to see outsourcing that isn't far eastern. If they give Stanley a ring (yeah, I know...) they could finally sell a decent (British made) utility knife.

:D
If you´re located in the US the Czech Republic is far in the east :D
Even from the UK it´s far east ;)
In Germany , eastern germany is "close east" so czech republic is "far east" :D ;) :headscrat :D

btw: Stanley: this (snap-off blade) knife is "made in England"
All the blades are still made in Sheffield afaik

Outstanding!!! Wera made blades on a Snap on screwdriver.:D The only thing that would make it better if is Snap on could get Williams to put those new Snap on racing handles on the Wera blades. Now that would be a great screwdriver.

Don't like them, I like the round blades with the bolsters. That hex shaft will get old in a hurry. They look cheesy and where the blade sometimes has to rest against something else the shaft will cam. I think they screwed the pooch on those.

I agree.

It would be nice if it still had the bolsters near the top for a larger wrench. Not a deal breaker but if I'm pushing down hard on the #3 I'd want something bigger than an 8mm wrench to turn it by.

Thanks for the info mrshaun and chad. They look nice!

I think it is good the way they detail the COO.

Any idea if they will come out with diamond tipped flat blades?

I would also be interested if they come in anything but red - the promo announcement seems to only list red part numbers.

While I don't like the shafts I do like the diamond embedded tip concept

x2

I sometimes will spin a shaft with my fingers, don't think I'd like the hex. Also the surface of the shafts look rough.

I like the grit idea. I wonder if aluminum oxide would do the same thing.

How long do these diamond particle coatings actually last before the tip is smooth?

It seems like a marketing gimmick but I don't have any first hand experience.

I was instantly sold when I learned about the new Wera diamond bits several years ago. They do grip the fastener very well, as was demonstrated at the shop I bought it at. Sadly, after a few uses, the coating has worn off from the contact points, just from hand use.

For the most part, I've relegated my set for emergency use only.

Your results may vary.

Take a look at Wiha dura bits:

I haven't tried them yet, but plan to pick up a PH2 sometime and see how they work.

that set actually looks like something i would consider. good idea though someone has thought of it before snap on...

its a large set of phillips drivers. not too many companies package multiple lengths and sizes of phillips drivers together. A+ for snap on!

Thanks for the link. They claim they last longer than diamond coated bits, which still means that they wear out sooner or later. :D

I think I'll just stick with regular tips/ACR tips, especially when considering the cost associated with them.

If anyone's interested in bits, Lee Valley also sells individual diamond coated bits that are made in Germany by Athlet (cheaper than the Wiha Durabits) I have no experience with them.: http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=56716&cat=1,43411,43417

Somebody needs to make a diamond-embedded ACR tip.
That would be bulletproof.

In the worst case scenario, when you don't have access to a impact screwdriver, that would probably be the best solution for a stuck fastener.

But given that the contact points are concentrated on the ribs, the durability/longevity of the coating is further reduced.
