SaabGuy, Thanks for the photo! T5?

I'll have to dig up some photos of my shop for you, nearly identical layout.

The SAAB signs are EXCELLENT!

Yup, T5, a loaner I was swapping out with a customer. Really fun back road car, cool "baseball glove" color leather interior...

Would like to see your layout!

Hung more signs yesterday, won't be insulating for at least a month-

Nice garage. I suspect our paths have crossed at some point. I am the owner (among others) of the Sonett known as Yellow Thunder.

Yup. Chris right?
I'm Peter and we've crossed paths before.
How is Yellow Thunder?
Last time I remember seeing that car was at the SOC in 2000 at Lime Rock...
I was working for Saab Cars at that time and was on a black Hayabusa...

You have been busy! Looks great!

Thanks- yours too!

I did my first work on the lift last weekend, and was finally feeling like I was getting near the end of the project...I did an oil change on the GFs car yesterday and was able to keep all the used oil from hitting the floor!

Failed the electrical inspection- compressor wiring used wrong type of connection...

Also found that there is a problem in the overhead light circuit that randomly trips the breaker...looks like the electrician is coming back.

Waiting on the building inspector to see if I need a few other things done- like hand rails for the stairs, lag bolts in the main beam etc.

Wow, really looking good. The lean to and cupola really add to the space! Are the double doors at back for tractor parking?

Nice job.

Beautiful garage! I'm from S.E. Ma. I wish I would have been able to put a second floor for storage. I had to go with trusses.

Another MA guy here... Great place. My absolute favorite part is the wood panel siding. Truly a classy touch. I envision having the same siding style, with some kind of subtle stain.

Well done, gorgeous cars!

Well - it wont be subtle, going with a deep barn red...
In this area the north side would mold, and the south side would bleach....so going to have to paint to preserve.

The rough hewn siding- "board and batten" style was a prerequisite...
the wood is from a lumber mill about 4 miles from here!
The best thing about local wood-fresh milled wood- is the smell!
It smells great.

Thanks -long time SAAB freak.

Ah yes, the obligatory handrail . . .

I just went out and snapped an early morning (low light) picture for you. Here is what I have done and I hope it works for the inspector.

Code requires the handrail to be 34" off the nose of the stair tread. I lagged 2x4's to the outside wall and used 3/4" copper pipe couplers as a standoff bracket because code also says you must be able to get the hand around the rail.

Notice I've strategically placed a fire extinguisher by the handrail.

I'm getting an inspection this week and will see if this flies since it is an unoccupied storage building.

Best Regards,

.

Inspector said I need to have a "outside" rail, but that can include the hand rail. Other than that - everything else is done.

Inspection again in a few weeks, then hopefully insulation before late fall and maybe even drywall...

Nice!

I have not had my inspection yet, maybe this week.

Did manage to introduce the coupe to her new home though.

Regards,

.

This a such a gorgeous garage. I would love to have your land and house some day. Are you doing any of the work yourself or is this all subbed out. Did you every think about going with a metal roof instead?

This looks like mine... You did some beautiful work on the details. Where are you in MA. I'll bet that you can't guess where I am...

Doing as much as I can, and working with the builder...
Subbed out : Tree removal, site work, foundation, floors, and major electrical.
Planning on doing the insulation and drywall with the builder and my brother in a couple of weeks...then interior painting with the girlfriend and brother.
I am having a professional do the exterior painting this week-depending on weather..

Wanted a metal roof-added too much $. Also I may go with solar on the south facing roof as well so shingles it is...

Hey Re-Volv!
I was there, basically didn't get a chance to talk to many people as I was doing the registration write up, ballot counting for the "Peoples Choice" awards etc.
I don't think I took a single picture...
Great weather, good people.
Lots of Swedish cars.
130ish registered Saabs, 75ish registered Volvos on the field.
Plenty of others not registered...
The Saab Owners Convention was the week before- in Albany , NY- so I got out there for the day and did get to talk to a few people...

I really like the natural wood exterior- it is going to be a major change when it's "Barn Red".
Painter starting today...

Drywall next week....

Friend stopped by in his Dino- formerly owned by Mario Andretti- and I got to drive it!

Looked great with the raw wood, but the red looks even better!

Are you planning on drywall for the ceiling or something else? Just curious because of the electrical conduit.

Thanks!
Still getting used to the red...
No insulation on ceiling now.
Insulation and drywall for the entire "shell" of the building...

SaabGuy,
I have the same exact lift and am not too far away from you (near Framingham). Did you buy it from Glenn? When I bought it he had two of them, same color and I think you got the other one.

Yes I did buy it from Glenn!
Those guys are great!
I was originally going to buy both, but decided to wait until the building was done to get the second lift.
Now I'll wait until spring and get another lift from them when a suitable one becomes available...

I left the drywall crew to do their thing last Monday-
Got a call right after they got there, they were unhappy with the framing.
I had the builder stop by and he told them to go ahead.
I talked with the builder, and he agreed to fix any issues that the drywall guys were concerned about.
So they hung board-after deciding I needed to pay additional costs for strapping...
This is what they did with the wiring upstairs- WTF?
I sent him-the owner of the company- an email, as I cant fix this without taking out drywall.
I mean- this is going to be storage at this point - but still!

Really?
I would have been OK even if they left the wiring exposed, but done it in a uniform manner across all 4 fixtures...

It's tough to see what these pictures are-
I'm dry walling the shell of the building, so this is where the upstairs lights are mounted to the ridge board of the upstairs ceiling...the drywall goes floor to ridge and meets the mounting for the lights at the ridge...

Here's a picture of the area the pictures are from, 4 hanging lights across the 40' length...
