Embarrassment almost prevented me from posting. Hobbling around here now I can laugh about it. This will be a public safety warning post. Ever see the commercials saying don't monkey around power lines? [emoji3]
Earlier tonight I got the bright idea to put up a pallet rack but there was existing electrical conduit and a pull box in the way. After a quick examination, I determined it would be easier to pry the box down a few inches to clear the rack. We, instead of cleaning out a spot for the ladder, I climb up on top of a work bench and then on top of the compressor with one foot on a file cabinet. Everything was going well, only needed a lil more. I whacked it with a 2x4, lost my footing and fell on my compressor. I grabbed the first thing in sight, the conduit and as I was going down I remembered thinking I hope I don't get electrocuted. See, I failed to turn the breaker off because the stereo is on that circuit and I was jamming out. Just as the thought went through my mind, the conduit fitting popped loose from the box and shorted out, shocking the shot out of me. I quickly let go and as I was bouncing off the work bench, I luckily thought to reach out with the hand the pry bar was in as far as I could to not fall on it. Next thing I knew I was on the floor, banged up, scuffed up, shaking and aching. The pic of my leg was taken 10 hours after the accident. I still have indentions from the compressor head on my shin and my ankle is starting to blue. There are several lessons here. It took me about two minutes to turn off the breakers, clear everything out of the way and put a ladder up safely after walking it off. Be safe!
I went ahead and ran new conduit up high without the drop.
And my ankle/shin. Hurt my pride some too, this was a stupid mistake that could have ended really bad. The only thing I can do is laugh though, I wish I would have been filming.
