Here you go Strouty, just because I got the VFD and DRO on the mill and knocked out a few projects doesn't mean I'm not mega procrastinating at other things. The small Delta drill press is in a thousand pieces and the only thing holding me up is my mental block. I think I did half these small projects just to avoid polishing the pole on the DP. Oh and handles, I need to get a handle on everything (pun intended).... who else here at GJ has a pair of Vise Grips on their table saw crank? Okay, how many of us have them on the Bridgeport too? [emoji3]

Bill, I offered $275 w/free shipping. He may accept lower, that's what I tried.

As for upgrades, I was told in another thread that the standard scales are more accurate than my machine so it would be stupid to upgrade.

The lengths I went with were determined by table travel. I took the travel in inches and rounded up to the next scale size in mm. Like my X axis is 20" and 20" is 509mm, I went with the 550mm scale there. My Z axis is 16", that's about 406mm so I went with 450mm scales there.

Thank you Shayne. I agree on sensitivity. I do like the 3rd axis.

Will see what my lengths are.

Thanks again,

Bill

Wait... you guys have milling machines... and use a visegrip as a handle??? I'm guessing you could make a pretty nifty handle with a milling machine... For the table saw... I would make one out of wood... just because I could.

Then again... I have outstanding projects that I moved from my last house ... in 2005... actually I can remember one... from 1992...

That's a great idea PP, I was going to use the mill to make more vise grips for my other machines needing handles, I keep having to move these around. :lol_hitti

I watched the YouTube how to on the mill crank, just need to set up a plate to mount my lathe chuck to my rotary table. After that I can spend $63.97 on supplies and tooling and countless hours to make what I can buy on eBay for half the price and no time wasted... wait.. what?

Bill, if you have any questions call or text, I prefer text but if I'm not ******* I'll answer calls.

I used a hammer, vise, cordless drill but a corded would work, a few size drill bits and taps, screwdriver and a wrench to fit the hardware.

Check the general tool section, I started a thread called Bridgeport M Head DRO Install. Couple people helping out with info there. They suggested using the Z axis on the knee and using a separate independent vertical readout on the quill for boring and other sensitive drilling etc.

Wait... you have a press right... cause visegrips are made with a press... not a milling machine.

That is why I don't own a lathe or milling machine... anything they could make... I could get on eBay or close enough with a good dremel and drill press... I could make it into whatever I need.

Don't get me wrong... if I had a 5 bay shop with pallet racks and a fork lift... I would SOOO have a milling machine or two.

Now that's some funny **** there Shayne. Do you think you're the only one that does that? I lost a new pair of vise grips once only to find them being used as a battery terminal on one of my buddies car. No ****, my $13 pair of vise grips in place of a $1 terminal.:eyecrazy:

Small Delta, DONE! This was a culmination of parts over several years that all just fell together. The table was bought with a bunch of other Delta dp parts I used to rebuild another machine at the beginning of this thread. The motor came from another dp refurb, its a delta motor but the dp wasn't so I put a different motor on it and saved this one jic. When I bought this dp recently, the table was broken and the motor want not a delta so I had all the parts. Well almost, I needed the spindle return spring adjuster screw and a member here had the part in the classified section. BAM, all the stars lined up! New bearings, fresh paint and ready for action. This will be my main drill press, the bench Craftsman that I also refurbed in this thread is going to my son when we finish his shop.

Thanks CB! It was almost time for bed.

Strouty, I've been restoring that hot rod ever since the flood, I really don't want to look at another vehicle for a few months so I'll stay busy on smalls for a while. Good luck with the burbans though, that one was in perfect condition, I almost hated seeing it torn down.

Caesar, it's a good ten footer, I definitely wouldn't say better than new but it should work like new for many years to come.

Thanks RMalkow!

Like it was meant to be, Outlaw!

Thanks for stopping in guys!

Some side by side action, hard to believe the difference without them next to each other.

Finished up my Craftsman 5" with my favorite snowball flavors, watermelon and triple extra cream[emoji3]. Actually it's Cherry Red and Almond Rustoleum but whatever... The blue one is going to my son.

True story, I'm jamming out in the shop today and Freebird comes on, I look over at the new jam box and this cool moth had dropped by for some tunes!

Embarrassment almost prevented me from posting. Hobbling around here now I can laugh about it. This will be a public safety warning post. Ever see the commercials saying don't monkey around power lines? [emoji3]

Earlier tonight I got the bright idea to put up a pallet rack but there was existing electrical conduit and a pull box in the way. After a quick examination, I determined it would be easier to pry the box down a few inches to clear the rack. We, instead of cleaning out a spot for the ladder, I climb up on top of a work bench and then on top of the compressor with one foot on a file cabinet. Everything was going well, only needed a lil more. I whacked it with a 2x4, lost my footing and fell on my compressor. I grabbed the first thing in sight, the conduit and as I was going down I remembered thinking I hope I don't get electrocuted. See, I failed to turn the breaker off because the stereo is on that circuit and I was jamming out. Just as the thought went through my mind, the conduit fitting popped loose from the box and shorted out, shocking the shot out of me. I quickly let go and as I was bouncing off the work bench, I luckily thought to reach out with the hand the pry bar was in as far as I could to not fall on it. Next thing I knew I was on the floor, banged up, scuffed up, shaking and aching. The pic of my leg was taken 10 hours after the accident. I still have indentions from the compressor head on my shin and my ankle is starting to blue. There are several lessons here. It took me about two minutes to turn off the breakers, clear everything out of the way and put a ladder up safely after walking it off. Be safe!
2956984099fdd007ac8762caa4112654.jpg

I went ahead and ran new conduit up high without the drop.
0344d1313ae577ef64df060827eb1c23.jpg

And my ankle/shin. Hurt my pride some too, this was a stupid mistake that could have ended really bad. The only thing I can do is laugh though, I wish I would have been filming.

Thanks for posting Nines, glad you're mostley ok:beer:.
We also wish you were filming .
A lot of us have done some really stupid $hit, myself included. I just had this vivid picture in my head of being right where you were , taking the same steps, cause I've used a lot of diffrent shop tools over the years just do a quirkier job.:lol_hitti

Looks like in the top pic that you got the box out of the way.

These days, I take the min to move and set up a ladder cause I figuire I've used up all my lucky charms.

Again, thanks for posting, it gives everyone here a reminder before we do something.

Its amazing how our life passes thru our minds as it is put in a situation of ending it...

At least he was jamming his tunes when he spit roasted himself... one possible obituary.

Man impaled by prybar as he electrocuted himself ... headline news

This is what happens when you ignore that inner voice too much, well either this or you wake up in bed with the ugly chick from the bar. Either way is a bad morning.

I usually don't go in for closely examining other men's legs, but that took a bruising. Hope you heal and feel better soon. The hurt pride may take longer.

It reminds me of my ladder follies, where I angled it too low and it slipped off the roof and slid down the wall. My legs scraped on the metal rungs as I fell with the ladder. Lucky they didn't break while tangled in the ladder.

Bill

Don't ever let embarrassment stop you (or anyone) posting safety related stuff. You did something dumb and survived it relatively unscathed. We can all use that message.
Anyway glad you are OK. And obviously still working.

Glad you're ok after all that potential for serious harm. We've all been there at one time, caught up in the moment of doing a task and just taking the short cuts rather than the safe way. I've done similar things. Luckily I've lived and grown older to start slowing down and trying to be safer. This experience will make you smarter for the future. Glad to know that after healing, many more cool projects will come from your shop.
