SF: i don't remember you showing any pictures of your ship lap or siding material other than after you put it up on the walls. if you did i'll look back through the thread or can you post up a few and are they notched on each side to slip on top of each other? i know you said they are shrinking, but i don't see any daylight so even though you are siding over them they look awesome from the insides.
also are they 8, 12 or 20 foot long and 2 x 6's?
i bet your arms and back are sore so you might want to buy a Teeter Up inversion table at Costco next time you are there because mine has kept me from taking advil for about 8 years now.

Costco sells post-frame structures manufactured by Barn Pros. They look great. Waiting for an opportunity to check one out.

SF: the ad was for 12 footers so guessing he had 16 footers in a pile for you. i bet he was smiling when you called and asked to buy 100's of them or about how many will it take to finish your building?
hope the rains and winds didn't cause any damage to your great build. we could use the rain, but when it comes with 40 mph winds not always a good thing around our area.

Yes, they could get me 16 footers as well. Actually, I needed #2 or better per plans, so they had to go thru many boards and pick out/grade the #2s. I'm using over 600 boards but they had to sort thru 2400 boards to get the 600 I'm using.
I was worried about the back wall with the wind coming so I stopped putting on the sheathing until the trusses are up. The front and back walls tie into the trusses with some blocking and cross bracing (I'll show pic once we get there). The wind load on a 60' x 20' wall is high. That's why the center sections of the front/back walls are 4x8 studs.
Very nice build, do you know the history on the AEC truck? I wonder if it came from Hanford?
I bought two of them from a guy in Washington and both are marked AEC on the doors and the guy said they were from swan island in portland, but my guess is they're from hanford via auction. Recently I saw another one on craigslist probably from same area, but it was a 56/57 4x4.

Getting rained out today,so working on getting my sheet metal order in. I'm going with 26 gauge galvalume tuff-rib on roof. I might use it on the side and back walls rather than board and batt to save time/money.
My back is doing fine so far. I did crossfit for a year before building the barn so I'd be in shape. So far no injuries. I've put over 10000 3-1/2" nails in this barn already, so if I didn't have the Dewalt nailer I'm sure I'd have arm issues by now.
Ran out of 2x8 sheathing. I need to get some more ordered.
Trusses showed up today and are on roof now. And then the rain came, hard. I'm going to go watch a movie and let the trusses think about their new home. Scissor lift coming tomorrow and we'll start rolling these out.

SF: easy to post kind words as you are doing an amazing job. keep taking lots of pictures. more of the insides and of the trusses going up would be great because i love all that wood and i'm positive others do and will to when they see the pictures.

SF: ALL that raw wood makes for great pictures so feel free to post more of them if you have any.
after you get done with the shop you'll need to buy a Versaclimber, Concept 2 rower and an Octane Elliptical to get as much exercise as you have while building your new shop.

Are you happy with the T&G lumber you got from the CL ad? I've viewed the same ad and am considering purchasing some for building the loft in my shop.
Yes, I'm happy. I paid a little bit extra to have them pick thru the boards as they're putting the tongue and groove to find/grade the #2 boards. They fit nice if put up green. They will shrink with about a 3/6" gap between each board if you put 'em up green.

SF: I'm guessing you meant to say 3/16 gap after you put up t&g green and drying in place? Any new pics or are you taking a few days break ?
Yes, 3/16 after the boards dry. When they go up green, I'm putting them tight with no gap. So I start with a 7" board (not including the t&g), and end up a 6-13/16" board. I'd love to go back a "restack" the boards to take out the gap, but there's three 16p hot dipped nails at each post, so they're not going anywhere.
All the trusses are up and it's going to take a few days to put in the out riggers for the end rafter and all the bracing required by the engineer. I was hoping to get the roof sheathed by now, before the rain, but looks like rain for a couple of days starting Tuesday, so I'll have to find something else to work on. My metal panel/trim package is arriving tomorrow, but it'll have to wait for the sheathing.
My wife and daughter are priming/painting everything under the eves and gable ends before the roof sheathing goes down. Actually, they're going to paint a 2' strip on the underside of the sheathing also so when it goes down, everything will be painted.

Updated my phone and it stopped uploading photos...fixed that now...so here's the updates.
Got the upper roof sheathing on and quickly put down the underlayment to keep the water out. We're trying to finish a bunch of little things before calling for the framing inspection. Shooting for inspection on Friday...

Yes, I picked up more and it's still sitting on my trailer. Should be enough to finish.

SF: don't be shy posting pictures here on your thread. i'm positive others will enjoy them too. maybe post a few each day that way it can stay at the top of the list in Garage Gallery so you can have a lot of members following which might help you later if you have any questions or need some advice.
of course i'm still loving what you have built and even though a Mueller steel building is on top of my want list yours is coming a lot closer than i thought a wood building could. the quality and design are awesome.
