I'm good with the 11th....Nothing like this event to have some purchases to fill up some real estate on some empty space on my new HF 56" top....already have Wright's largest metric and SAE wrench set...so maybe a metric and SAE set of SK crowfoots and a large drill bit set.

So I propose that on July 4th, we debut the new website, and then give everyone a week to look through it, then we have the official Epstein's Day on July 11th. What do you guys think? This would also give the US manufacturer's more time to come up with free goodies to throw in with your orders. I could go either way, but I think this might make more sense for everyone involved.

Kind of takes away from the original intent of Epstein's Day being on the 4th of July (seared flesh, fireworks, American Tools, etc.) and only a 24 hour event. I don't think it was intended to be a Wright Day but, it seems to be evolving into that.:dunno: It's up to the consensus of the Journal so, I'd say put it to a vote/poll on page one but, that's just me.

I agree to some extent. The point of Epstein's day is to buy american and show support. That coincides very nicely with the 4th.

I wouldn't say it HAS to be on the 4th though. I'm fine with it either way, just as long as the date gets set for sure and everyone knows about it.

I don't think it would be a good idea to debeut the new website on the same day as Epstein's day. Just sounds like mass confusion to me. I would like some time to browse the new site myself. Who knows what else I might find for my order.

I'll admit, I'm jumping on the wright bandwagon for this event. I really don't feel like it's being geared towards a "wright day" though. Every year there are certain items that have a lot of buzz on this thread ahead of time. This year it seems to be the wright grip wrench sets.

I'm OK with July 11, particularly if we make the HJE catalog debut kick-off on July 4.

Intent is still the same ... US tools from a US family business initiating on the best US holiday!!

It also gives HJE employees the holiday off to spend with their families without having to deal with or worry about GJ orders.

I'm OK with the 11th this year. As has been said, the intent is the same.
It can always be changed back to the 4th for next year when the confusion of a new website has worn off.

I have no problem with the 11th. i'm traveling for a wedding on the 4th so I would have either had to order early/late anyway. The new website is also a bonus.

Also past HJE Days have highlighted other USA manufacturers, such as Armstrong. Why can't we do Wright this year?

So as I am busily working on this new website getting it ready for Epstein's Day, a thought occurred to me, which is, that debuting the website on Epstein's Day is not going to be helpful in terms of giving you guys enough time to actually browse through it, look at the 1000's of new Wright products, and also be able to adequately complain about how much you liked the old website better. :)

So I propose that on July 4th, we debut the new website, and then give everyone a week to look through it, then we have the official Epstein's Day on July 11th. What do you guys think? I prefer this. I was coming on here to see if people were asking about "special requests." Specifically, I prefer the 9XX/12XX series Wright sets, or the polished finish to hte satin. But I don't see them on the site. Was going to find out if I needed to get a quote ahead of time, or not. Doing it this way, it appears I'll be able to check out what I'm after on the 4th.

I buy American, anyway. Whether July the 4th, of the 31st of February. I don't need to wait until our Independence Day rolls around to make me buy American. I'll play along this time, unless I get in a bind, in which case, I'll go ahead and buy. But it'll be American.

What if the 4th and 11th were split? As if either works. For the free stuff why don't we add half to the 4th and half to the 11th?

I'm sure some people are only looking for a few things or one big item possibly, so they will be ready on the 4th.

It's already a mad cluster for the HJE staff, I don't think we need to complicate the event any more than it already is.

I'm very pleased that the website is getting an overhaul, it is needed and the current one has many links that lead to nothing. This is fantastic news and I for one can't wait to see it!

Question... my current "wish list" is a collection of bookmarks on the existing site. After the new site launch, will the current product URLs work, or do I need to just make a list of products to search for once the new site launches?

So the old website won't disappear initially. The links will be up for a couple weeks or so. Also, new website will have "wish list" feature built in.

I wish there were more people similar to you these days. Similar to you, I don't buy American just on special days or when this convenient. What others do with their own money is their business, but I buy made in USA items any chance I get.

When this comes to supporting the jobs of my fellow American "brothers and sisters" anytime is well worth the effort.

EDIT: Jori, would this be possible to buy smooth jaw Channellock pliers during the 11th with Epstein Day?

I'm in. Read here a lot, have posted only a couple of times. Two orders from HJE so far, about to do a 3rd. (Not a mechanic, but spent ~10 years in a machine shop and am always working on something.)

I ordered one of the free ratchet rebuild kits with my first order. They called me and apologized because it was out of stock. They asked if they could send it when it came in. Crazy good customer service. (I of course said not to worry about it.)

Got a Wright 3430 (small 3/8"). So handy!

Yeah, I haven't posted much here, but ever since I learned about Harry J Epstein years ago, I have since made multiple orders. Some of the best customer service I've ever dealt with.

I can't wait to Epstein Day, I could fast forward time.

Fox's pictures of all of his WrightGrips has me wondering, what is really considered a full set of combination wrenches?

I see that he has 18 different metric wrenches there.

Costco is selling Ernst wrench racks designed to fit 20 wrenches. I know that Ernst also makes rails for 15 wrenches as well. My basic Craftsman Raised Panels came with eight metric wrenches: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17mm. My Gearwrench ratcheting set came with 10 metric wrenches. And Epsteins sells the metric Wrightgrips in sets of 11.

So what is really considered a "complete set" for combination wrenches? Anticipating the question/objection of "depends on what you use them for", I am thinking about general household and automotive use.

For metric I'd say a reasonably complete set would include the sizes 7-19mm without skipping. Having said that I wouldn't lose too much sleep over Wright's 11 piece set skipping 16 & 18mm.

A complete set is totally dependent to what you own or work on and I did add the 6mm satin wrench as well. I work on motorcycles so even my 19 piece is not a complete set for motorcycles, many rear axles are 28+mm and I don't have those wrenches (yet) and just use sockets in their place.
Another thing to consider is what kind of OPE and what brands do you own? For me I own 2 lawn mowers, snow thrower, lawn edger, 3 chainsaws, hedge trimmers, string trimmer, backpack & hand hold blowers, all of that stuff is Husqvarna and tends to be metric from memory but your needs may be different.
My 2 least used metric wrenches would be 9 & 11mm, come to think of it I might have used the 9mm on a KTM but I'm getting old and don't remember now.

You would lose a lot of sleep without that 18mm if you work on late model cars.

your 5/8 can take the place of missing 16mm. Just because Japanese cars skip 16 and 18 mm doesn't mean you don't need those two wrenches. :wtf:
Wright needs to get with program:beer:

Yeah no kidding, I can't go a day without using 18MM anything. Why does Wright omit this size?

It appears to me that Wright IS with the program ... but, perhaps you guys may not be looking at the correct Wright wrench sets. Wright sells five basic sets of 12 point metric combo wrenches:

Wright Set #750 7-19 mm skipping 16 and 18
Wright Set #751 10-19 mm no skips
Wright Set #752 7-19 mm no skips + 21 & 22
Wright Set #758 7-24 mm no skips
Wright Set #760 6-27 mm no skips + 30, 32, 36, 41, 46, & 50

You just need to choose the set that best meets your needs. But, I agree that I don't know why Wright sells the #750 without the 16 and 18. They should add these two wrenches and everyone would be happy! Or, maybe it's their way of producing a "discount" set.

JIS & DIN have been replaced by the ISO standard
You will need 16 & 18 sizes at some point

no more remembering 10, 12, 14, 17 for Japanese fasteners and
10, 11, 13, 17, 19, 22 for DIN

It is now 10, 13, 16, 18, 24

take a look:

So, I know there has been a lot of discussion and maybe I missed the final word, but is 2015 HJE Day now "OFFICIALLY" on July 11 in lieu of July 4??

That's what I'm assuming. If I had to guess we will hear from Jori early next week with final details.

I guess since we got such a late start this year we won't be getting t shirts again?

I created the 7-24mm polished wright grip set from Epstein's when they first appeared. Decent wrenches  Wright's main focus is industrial applications like fracking so, sometimes you don't get the automotive based tools you might find in another brand and metric seems to take a backseat to the SAE line :dunno:
Has wright started putting detent cut outs on the square drive of all their 1/4 sockets or knurling on their extensions?

In the seventh page of this thread, Jori said something about the site needing to be updated on July 4th and the actual date of Harry J Epstein Day is July 11th 2015. Someone made a tag with that in this thread.

Also even though those shirts weren't American made (Mexico made from what I remember) I really like mine as you can only acquire those if you bought on Harry J Epstein Day and on multiple instances I've talked to people about Wright and Harry J Epstein.

Granted the SK Day shirt remains to be my favorite and being is shirt is 100% USA made I am very proud to wear that as well.

The addition of the "stripper-glitter" in the printing, while looking cool, sheds all over everything else in the wash, annoyingly.

Crick, Channellock and Wright are on my shopping list for Epstein's Day. :rocker:

Interesting, as I've washed this Bayside sourced, SK Day shirt and never had that issue at all. Sure this has faded some, but shirts are meant to be used and I have used this heavily.

Regardless, I am also shopping for a Channellock item and some Wright items as well. Those American made Crick levels look amazing.

Already own one, have had it for years, they are great levels.

They need to be wiped down with boiled linseed oil once a year or each time before use doing concrete work (so the hod doesn't stick).

Yeah I've used USA made Empire and Sands Levels for the most part, but didn't know about Crick until recently.

Ah yes boiled linseed oil. I know about this as there is a modern homestead Youtuber named Wranglestar that recommends this for most wooden items.

What Channellock and Wright items are you thinking of acquring?

For me this is going to be a smooth jaw Channellock brand pliers and a 3/8 inch drive Wright deep sockets. Along with the sockets I am going to buy a Wright rail and the clips along with that.
