cheaper to have amazon to fulfillment than stock your own warehouse space.

He’ll probably divert it until harvest. I’m glad you’re covered
It's been a while since we've had a hail claim but I'm almost positive it'll all wait until harvest.

You're probably correct but Amazon still is taking over the world and killing local businesses. It's just the next evil Goliath until the next.one comes along. I've talked to a number of people that have said they've started shopping at Walmart again Instead of ordering off Amazon. Seems silly but Walmart is now the "good" guy again :lol_hitti

JBL: I need to make more time to catch up on your adventures cause you don't slow down for a second. so another big building is in the works?

funny you should say that cause I try to buy from local stores other than ordering online, but I still have to order some things online just because local guys can't carry everything. of course my favorite store is CRAIGSLIST!!

cheers and keep up the good work!!

amazon really is pure capitalism.

walmart: finds a good product they want to sell. ask to buy 100,000 units forcing the mom and pop to invest serious money into increasing capacity. once that run is done walmart offers to reorder another 100,000 units but now at 60% the price of the last run. the mom and pop has sunk costs into extra capacity they need to pay for so their hand is forced.

amazon: Lets anyone put anything up for sale. they have all the risk in bringing the product to market (unlike walmart who had to order the first run of product). the little guy sends his thing to amazon. then as orders grow the little guy sends stuff direct from factory to amazon. amazon records the incoming labels and links the factory to the product. When enough orders come thru amazon then you get amazon basics group asking the factory for a private run. now the little guy who took all the risk is cut out cause amazon going direct is something every factory wants.

Walmart isn't going down without a fight. they started offering "subscription free two day". Amazon in turn started offering 1 day in major metros for everything as part of prime. I think it will end up same day from both walmart and amazon. no one else can really compete at same day.

tl:dr both bad. amazon badder. RIP little guy. Wall-E is our future. buy more!

It would seem to be so !! Going to hopefully build a machine shed to turn into a farm shop fall of 2020 !!

Thinking about it the movie Wall-E is actually a bit spooky with all that is going on today with the recycling and trash industries in the world .....

The kiddos and I went for a stroll in the "Yacht" and checked out my progress on the dirt work Saturday afternoon.
48572182817_fb500fe164_c.jpg

Lily was trying to find her pet steer #9, Alyssa was telling them to eat the corn because she just swept it up to them and Leo was following a bug on the floor. All three were having a great time :)
48572182732_12c8edb7f6_z.jpg

The 4-wheeler is parked in the doorway of the shop :lol_hitti
48572033721_126fba443f_z.jpg

Lots of extra topsoil so some of it is getting spread in the lower always wet spots in the field to hopefully help dry them out !!
48572182757_c905eddef6_z.jpg

I also put a bunch around the hayshed to build it up a little. The lowest board is sticking out a few inches and critters are digging tunnels into the shed. I do not care for that. The plan is to level it all out and plant hostas here as well to help stabilize the dirt under the overhang and because they look nice
48572182792_5efd475942_z.jpg

Looks like enough but will probably need more. That power pole made access a bit tricky !!
48572033731_1fca76b007_z.jpg

We went to a parade in Cold Spring, MN today and the kiddos got chicken hats from the Gold'N'Plump float. The processing plant is in Cold Spring and they have a cargo van decorated up with a HUGE fiberglass chicken riding on top.
48572033556_41544e9fcb_z.jpg

This is the injection pump on the John Deere 750 dozer I'm borrowing. It is all loosened up to be removed as it's not cooperating nicely. We need to get the engine to top dead center before removing the pump or it'll likely be a ****** to get going again !!

Thanks for the link, sorry for the derail on the thread. I'm balancing the whole "MOAR POWAA" in my head with the desire for a double/tripple burner setup. I don't want it to have issues getting my cast iron stuff hot but at the same time I'm trying to basically set up a fully portable kitch replacement for the lake house (prefer not to heat up the stove/oven when possible) and besides a full size flat top (next summer, I suspect) the burners for sweet corn/etc are the last piece of the puzzle. Our grill doesn't have a side burner despite being propane but I never find those side burners to put out enough heat anyway so I figured a stand alone was a better option.

then amazon follows the walmart model with large orders forcing a capacity increase before a forced price drop. :shocking::(

So follows with the worse Walmart way, which somehow makes walmart better. Right...

I'm in for all of this. The disk grill thing makes some amazing steak and potatoes and I'd imagine a beer or two could disappear while consuming the goodness that comes off that worn out used to dig in poop tillage tool !!

Amen!

OP, we'll both bring a 30-rack if you're cooking
Don't tease me with a good time. When will you arrive ???

I had the same debate for different reasons. No lake house here but I thought the double/triple burner would be nice but couldn't figure out why .... When we camp we almost exclusively cook over a campfire so no need for it there and when I want to use the Wishek Wok at home I'll do a campfire or this monster burner. Honestly, this thing is WAY overkill but I wanted a large frame burner and this one is 16" square.

On my grill I cook everything on a Lodge Cast Iron flat skillet. I've never understood letting the fat/juices drip down and away from the meat. Everything from salmon to steak is sooooo much better cooked on a solid surface !!

You could always get a beer keg, cut the top out of it and make a brew pot for brewing beer. I have a burner like that on my brewing set up.
Quaker Road Brewery sounds catchy.

I was reading it thinking I could use the beer keg to cook sweet corn and then the brewing beer thing came about and it got me thinking ....

I do enjoy beer but more on the drinking it side of things and have never dabbled in making it. I suppose I could try some beer brewing in my spare time

We use ours for corn as well, could also be used for deep fry.
We have a 30 gallon boil pot that will yield about 26 gallons in the fermenter .
It takes about 6 hours from start to finish to brew and around 10 days to ferment. Some beers like IPA you can drink after 10 days others need to be aged.
Its better to let them age a little, most of the time we think the last pint is the best.
It cost about 50 cents a pint of beer for us to brew.

I hear you on that last part. I just bought myself a 28" griddle a couple weeks back and the only thing I've used my grill for since is holding my beer and using it as a shelf to hold my tools. I did throw it a small bone last night grilling some hot dogs and some frozen chicken burgers. I am absolutely loving the griddle!

In your spare time from your 3 full time jobs.
I have spare time from 10PM to 5AM everyday I could fit something else in if needed :lol_hitti

50 cents for 16oz isn't that bad but unless I can make me something similar to some Captain Morgan I'm out. I haven't met a IPA or micro-brew that I've liked enough to have it again unfortunately. I do not like dark beer or flavored beers. Naterdays on the other hand .... they're quite tasty considering who makes them !!

I've had an actual SS griddle on the wish list for quite some time and so far this Wishek Wok is filling that void. The only thing that stinks about it is that it's not flat so cooking eggs, bacon and potatoes at the same time can't happen. Turn up the heat on that monster burner and they're all done in about 38sec each though so no big deal :lol_hitti

It'll get a workout this weekend as we're having some ... well, friends ... but they're still people .... more friends than just people I guess .... come visit this weekend and we plan to cook at least one or two meals on it.

JBL: I can't imagine you even sleeping with all that you have going on. i'm guessing you believe in the theory of you can sleep when you are dead, but that said I know you take a little time to smell the roses.

speaking of which I might have missed the posts, but did you take the family out in the bus/camper for a few days and how was the new countertop?

cheers and keep on thinking and working towards your dreams and you'll get there i'm certain of it.

I think I am okay knowing you don't imagine me while I am sleeping :lol_hitti

I'm sure it's a few pages back now but the bus didn't want to stay running due to a dirty tank so friends of friends loaned us their camper to use for a weekend and we ended up purchasing a 27' 2002 bumper tow camper to use now. Mama Bear is happier because we're "less" redneck by not using the bus and I'm happier because she says she's happier.

I worked from home yesterday and Dad spent the day in the tractor and scraper so I made us a little noon time snack on the Wishek Wok.

Dad is going to be able to get the entire shed pad done at the rate he's going !!

It sure doesn't take long to move dirt around when you're moving it from here ....

To here !!

When the little people crew came home we all had to make sure Grandpa was getting it nice and level with the good ol' Montgomery Wards transit !!

JBL: sorry to hear about your bus issues, but I bet when you get time (what is that and can you buy some extra you say) you'll have it fixed and good to go the next time you have a family trip.

have a great weekend and love to see dirt moving around cause that means new buildings are in the works.

cheers

Sadly for now the bus is going to be retired. It's been running great since I put a MONSTER fuel filter setup on it but we purchased a bumper tow camper to use now. It's a nice camper but it'll get pulled with the bus one day .... soon :bounce:

This weekend we played host for a fellow GJ member and his family. I told them if they could get here in time for dinner Saturday I'd cook up a whole mess of steak and a potato or two !!!
48621452011_3bd789f829_z.jpg

Well we ended up inviting a few more people for dinner and we had to throw more meat on the Wok !! I think there were 18 people here if my count is correct.
48621096818_f593e67759_z.jpg

Oh look !! A grizzly bear with a potato peeler :shocking:
48621594612_0fc3df7b22_z.jpg

So we started peeling potatoes and BS'ing about stuff and before we knew it we had the entire 10lb bag peeled and throw on the Wok ....
48621096843_2e4843a8fa_z.jpg

Had to make some hot dogs as almost half the crowd was under the age of 9 :lol_hitti
48621452146_d801703773_z.jpg

Once all the little people were asleep we took to burning things. This happens to be an adirondack chair that's seem MUCH better days. We torched two of them along with a bunch of misc lumber I had laying around. Also may have drank a tiddly bit of some sorts of spirits ....
48621096868_b8ce60e230_z.jpg

Most of the little people crew "helping" with chores. These particular kids are from somewhere in the Southern Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN) and aren't around cattle/chickens/farm stuff all that often. Our kids were showing them how it all worked. It was quite fun to watch :bounce:
48621452206_7fe780e93c_z.jpg

While the kiddos were washing their feet before bed time Miss Lily put here little rear end through the wall in the shower. Turns out the previous owners who built the house in the mid 1960's decided sheetrock was the best material to use behind the tile. It was all rotten and mushy :(
48621096763_62cac08ed2_z.jpg

I removed all the nasty stuff and had some nice holes to look at for a while ...
48621594782_7fe780e93c_z.jpg

I decided that treated plywood was the material to use in replacing the sheetrock. I purchased a glue on surround to install as soon as these plywood sponges dry out !!
48621594822_e2983717eb_z.jpg

In the mean time we get to use table cloths as secondary shower curtains until I get it finished :lol_hitti

The little people aren't as little as I remember.

Don't blink!!

That pan scraper is sure the tool for the job. Better than a dozer for a long move and about as good as for short. I assume it does a great fob of skimming to level too, at least until you compact.

They aren't as little as I remember either .... Time sure does fly !! Lily is going to be a 1st grader this year :shocking:

The scraper is doing everything we need so far. I think had we had the dozer running the entire time I'd have been using it while Dad ran scraper or something similar. We'll definitely use it when putting the black dirt back and to pull dirt away from the stacking slab sometime soon. If it ever dries up that is !!! It gets dry and then rains the next day. Not a long window to do anything !!

If you haven’t started tiling yet cement board is longer lasting.

Wait . . .

That sheetrock lasts over 50yrs

(caddyman is right some mornings just can't help myself)

definitely would not use plywood unless ya going with one of those plastic shower wall kits.
Which will be fine until you tear down the house and start on Mama bear's dream home.

Well the man did say he was installing a glue on surrounding in the shower. So pressure treated wood should be fine for the application as long as it don't leak in a seam. Otherwise cement board might be better.

I see that Wok is getting a workout! I've yet to season my wok, and I feel ashamed too. I was moving stuff around in the garage the other day and I gather all of my cooking appliances and currently working on how to store everything. I'm thinking of getting a miniuture shed deal that can house the items by my grilling area so it's easier to setup instead of having to run around the place to get everything together. Maybe Labor Day will be the day that I cook in the Wok!

Yeah .... it only needs to last a few years. I gave serious thought to caulking around the treated plywood and calling it good but Mama Bear made me put in a cheap glue in surround to keep it looking halfway decent. It didn't turn out too bad.

JBL: nice work on the bathroom and I bet with a bride and 3 little kids it needed to be done quick too.

I hope you get a bit of dry weather so you can finish the dirt work for your new barn/building, but it's starting to rain early here in the PNW (usually doesn't rain in August) so best of luck with that.

hope you are getting some rest in between all the eating and work and remodeling.

cheers

Since we have the scraper here we decided to move more dirt around for a potential calf barn one day.
48647768258_f66645757f_z.jpg

I dug a test hole to see how much black dirt was here and there is a fair bit. Turns out this was a shallow spot. Closer to the stacking slab there was over 5' !!
48648268112_52bcebbb7f_z.jpg

It was decided to put the extra black dirt North of the hayshed. Note to self: NEVER decide to build a building here !!! There would be LOTS of black dirt to move AGAIN :lol_hitti
48648136666_84bca81aef_z.jpg

Dad started hauling clay back in once most of the black dirt was out.
48648267937_196f134c0a_z.jpg

The borrow hill is getting smaller which is great because the more that disappears the more potential there is to build a lean-to on the South side of the shop.
48647768393_15358578ee_z.jpg

Since the camper was WAY too close to the ground I decided to purchase an overslung/underslung conversion kit to move the axles from on top of the leaf springs to under the leaf springs.

Anti-sieze is your BEST friend !! Clean the threads off the rusty old bolts and smooooze some on so nothing gets bucky. Smear some on during assembly for trouble free everything forever and ever.

This is one of two Snap-On tools I own. It's a ratcheting adapter for a breaker bar. OMG this thing is nice !!

Minus a leaf spring. This went very smoothly !!

I think it's a good 5-1/2" taller now. This should REALLY help with clearance on some of the cow paths we will get on with it. A side effect is the camper is now much more level when hooked up to the pickup as it was a few inches off before.

JBL: nice work on the bathroom and I bet with a bride and 3 little kids it needed to be done quick too.

I hope you get a bit of dry weather so you can finish the dirt work for your new barn/building, but it's starting to rain early here in the PNW (usually doesn't rain in August) so best of luck with that.

hope you are getting some rest in between all the eating and work and remodeling.

cheers
Yeah we all went a few days without showering. It was getting a bit ripe in the house !!

We were hoping to get it all finished this weekend but we decided to go camping instead. It's getting to be fall'ish time and soon we'll be crazy busy again so we better get the fun in while we can. PLUS the injection pump for the dozer won't be done until next week so we can't do much anyway. There si a little bit of scraper work left but mostly dozer stuff to finish it all off nicely before we start hauling the black dirt back in !!

Is the snapon tool painted Gold??!?!!? lol

That conversion does give the camper a lift. There's a lot of offroad campers that has better clearance then a truck! Also what you did was consider a poor man lift kit when I was offroading and I helped several folks lift their trucks the same way. Got to keep the hobbies cheap to afford the steaks and beer!
