I scored a massive piece of pebble at the flea market today. A 3062 plomb. I'll see what I can do about the rust, but I'm afraid a few if the spots are here to stay.

That's a war club!

Was able to get out to an estate sale and was rewarded for the effort. Been collecting plomb for many years and never ran across one in the wild.

What a steal! Condition looks incredible too.

Here are some brake spring pliers and something else. Says plomb 6540
Special Water Pump Spanner, for assembling the water pump in a 1937 V8-60 flathead. Page 63, Catalog 17B (1939). EDIT: That's the second water pump wrench we've collectively turned up in 10 days! See my more conventional type, a No. 3644, here, which is shown on the same catalog page.

mrbill sent me an excellent round handle ratchet for my 1/2”drive set and it’s getting close to complete. Just a few pieces on the way to complete the set (except for the crossbar which may be a long time coming). Here is a sneak preview.

Thanks to d42jeep I now have a 3/8" speeder that fits the box. This is a set I've been piecing together for a while now.

I was wondering why you haven't hit me up for the swivel socket I just found, but looking at your set reminds me that you have four (4) that I found last year! ***** getting old! :)

Looking great, Bill.

Thank you, sir! You can feel free to find the MU-53 Wright 9/16" flex socket I'm missing if it would help assuage any OCD tendencies you may have.

I think the ripple offset is factory, but I wonder if there was a box end on the other end before it got lopped off by someone, or if it was a factory single end. What does it look like? Hand finished? I guess there would be another size marking on the shank if there was originally a box on the other end.

I thought it might have been shop made at first also, but its pretty straight and the size marking is also the tool number it looks like. Here are some close ups of it. /some kinda stamp on the back side or maybe a dent from use...

Nice! I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a 1232 1" combo pebble and 1218 combo pebble to finish out my combo set.

Here is a pretty neat set of DOE Plomb pebbles in the leatherette case I picked up a while back. I used the set to fill out the doe portion of a now completed pebble board I was working on but thought I'd throw up a few pics of the set in it's original roll. I'm pretty sure this was set 3000D with an extra 3018 wrench which originally would have came in the 2406 leatherette roll. The smaller wrenches were sharing a slot to fit. The ink on the roll has faded but is still readable. I'm storing it out of the light for now. Ed.

With help from mrbill, username, Smokeshow and others, my new 1/2” drive set is complete except for the pin handle. All of the 32” sizes are now included that it should have come with. I’ve added some extras shown in the lower pictures and finally took one of all the green sets together.

Is the pin handle the little bar that fits in the holes in the deep sockets?

It fit in the flex handle and extensions originally. It should also fit the deep sockets I added as extras. I normally refer to them as crossbars. I have a bar in the set that I had lying around but it isn’t the correct one.

I was wondering, I have the half inch box same as you and filling it with all my half inch stuff. found a Plomb deep socket last year at a swap meet in like new condition that had a bar through the hole. I wondered if it is indeed Plomb. Are they stamped ?

I’ve never actually seen a 1/2” drive one but according to the catalog listing it should have a centering groove. I’m not sure if they are marked. There is a correct one in the 3/8” set in the upper left of the last picture.

The one in your 3/8 set looks like mine... there's no center groove and it matches the finish on the socket it was in almost perfectly... it does have a detent ball on one end.

Also here's a load of some of my 1/2 drawer. There's a little 3/8 mixed in but, there's more 1/2 stuff laying around also...

Wow, that’s a lot of Plomb! Here are better pictures showing the groove in the crossbar in the ‘39 3/8” set.

It looks to just have the pinched end stop on it. Wish I knew if this one was Plomb or not... I have a bunch more 1/2 stuff. hinged speedster and all kinds of stuff. Even another rail of 1/2 sockets in another drawer... Prob 10+ dif 1/2 ratchets ect...

Thanks, Ragtop! Appreciate it! Don't see many Plombs in the wild up here in the Northeast.

no problem, hope I can find those and get your set completed!

Don,
Could you have got that 3/8" set to shine any more?! That is nice and congrats on the 1/2" set.

RagTop,
Just FYI, the 18A catalog shows the length of 5466PH at 11 1/2". You could check yours against that, but I can't be certain that it should have a detent ball. That almost sounds more like a sliding bar handle which did have detent balls. If the pics are to scale in the catalog then the sliding bar handle is longer than the pin handle.

Just wanted to show you guys my newly completed plomb 1/4 drive set #4700b. Thanks to d42, we worked out a trade to help each other complete each other's sets and I could not be happier! I have never found a 1/4 pebble in the wild and don came to the rescue! I also got 2 missing sockets and the sliding T bar from him. I do use my plomb so I am glad to have a complete set I can use for small jobs.

I also was able to clean up this proto la tool board I got at a swap meet last summer. It is early because it is labeled on the back as property of the plomb tool company. It had a rough life and the shellac had signs of cracking and water damage so I sprayed 2 new coats of shellac in it and degreased the metal hooks! I paid $40 for it but was glad to find it and want to find more.

Did you buy it ? I have one of those that needs some love as well! If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay ? Those so rarely come up for sale it is hard to establish a price on them. I paid $200 and I believe ragtopta paid just under that for his. Either way they are great boxes
