Hey All,
It's been far too long but I am getting back into collecting. I am going to make an attempt to post more here and share some stories with my fellow Plomb Collectors.
I had been battle some health issues and wanted to focus on health and family for a bit to make sure I had those taken care of.
I hope you all doing well!
With my head above water I have started to get back into collecting. I am thinking of a bit of a revamp on the Plomb alcove as it it starting to get a bit crowded and have plenty of the floor yet to hang.
I will get a few oddies posted here over the weekend.
I look forward to catching up.
Roy
Well well well, I was worried you would be gone forever. Sure is glad to see you back on here again. You have missed quite a few deep dives and odd turns of this thread but all in all we are mostly the same crew of nerdy, overzealous and often eccentric collectors who enjoy the almighty plomb! Come to think of it I think that you missed the “anvil chorus” discovery and also the paschall can opener deep dives.

Some recent additions.
2 1928 DX sockets. (New one for me). I didn't know there was a DX series of sockets compared to the DDX 12 point version.
Also found my last screwdriver for my Plomb screwdriver board. The square shanks 98XX are difficult to find.

Hello there Roy.
Thought you had abandoned the "collecting" thing!
I thought about it for a while. I am going to stop the reselling. It got a bit crazy for a few years. Just working on slowly moving off my inventory. I am still working on the Plombs with a sole focus.

I know what you mean. My wife and I did some casual reselling over the past 3 years but this year we stopped. The market really tanked this past year on decor and tools. I actually gave away all my spare resell tools (no plomb or Proto) after my last garage sale earlier this year. I’m a lot more picky now if I get something to resell . It has to be a good flip and has to really make it worth my time.

^ Sales for me on ebay have tanked since the first of the year. I think I've sold all of three items in the last month - total profit maybe $10 bucks on all of it - nickel and dime stuff.

Thank you all for the warm welcome back. I agree with the resell market slowing. 2022 I resold around 3700 items 2023 saw that number dip to 2700 and last year was right at 2000. Margins are decreasing in the resell game. The wife and I used to get our house paid off early and make an appear in the Ramsey show which is up in YouTube.
It was a fun gig buying and selling tools. I remember one week spending close to $5k at 4 different auctions and filling 2 garage stalls but the time it takes to clean, picture, list, and pack was too much for a side hustle.

I saw this adjustable wrench listed on eBay this morning and it doesn’t make any sense to me. Wrong jaw configuration, round O Plomb, broached hanging hole, no date code. Any thoughts?IMG_6072.pngIMG_6073.pngIMG_6074.jpeg

Catching up on the thread. I have this wrench along with 4", 6", and this 12". I can grab some pics later. Narrowing down the list only 5 non transitional spots let to fill of the Plomb adjustables which has 5 distinct patterns outside of the transitional.

Diamond contract Plomb Adjustables. The strange thing is how good of condition each one of these are compared to my other Plomb adjustables. The JP Danielson ones for me patina very easily.

Based on how few of the Diamond Plomb I’ve run across, they likely must have been a limited contract to fill Plomb wartime commitments. I’ll keep an eye out for one for my collection. The Utica supplied adjustables were finished nicely as well.IMG_2731.jpegIMG_1491.jpeg

Nice early Utica variant! Those are a difficult one to find. I think they were the 1st Plomb adjustables circa 1938.

Here are some 3/4" WFs. Which include a breaker bar, 2 extensions, and a hand full of sockets.

I want to start a discussion around the unfound WF-60. I have a theory backed by some evidence that revolves around a strange contact tool I picked up about 8 years ago.

Stay tuned.

I added an 8 point socket to these other late Plomb sockets that came in a Proto LA box. I’m missing the 3/4” socket in this late style. The set came with a dual marked 3/4” socket but it was cracked. I really like the marked pin handle in the set. IMG_2542.jpegIMG_2543.jpeg

Ready for a WF-60 theory?

As many Plomb WF collects can attest to the unknown information around what tool exactly is the WF-60 on the Wright Field list. In my past 10ish of collecting I have seen a few of these WF unknowns be found. While I have tried to leverage AI to fill the missing gaps in the WF list having the AI scour the internet for maybe a long lost tool list that appears in a non searchable spot. Using prompts to search for material is OCR I though maybe it would uncover some information that would lead to filling a few of these unknown gaps but to much of my avail it didn't turn up anything. While going through some tools last night I remembers I has these 2 odd C series contract Plomb sockets that were made from WF forgings. Looking closer at the sizes I have (1) 1-5/16" and (1) 1-1/4". With the 1-5/16" appearing as the WF-61 would it possible that the WF-60 is in fact a 1-1/4" socket instead of 3/4" ratchet?

Here are the pictures of a WF socket along side the 2 contract sockets.

Thoughts, feedback, and discussion are appreciated.

Hmm only one "Slot" to fill but lots of potential 3/4 drive sizes for that, and I have these either in Plvmb or Proto, (not sure as I didn't detail that close originally in my inventor and these are likely in my very buried "boxed set" I made up) - I'm thinking many may be Proto from my dad, but could be Plvmb as well...

Roy,
I can buy that theory. I've always had doubts that this set would include a 3/4" drive ratchet.

Although I have two legitimate 1/4” drive Plomb pin handles, they are rare enough that when I (barely) spotted one in this partial set listed on eBay, it encouraged me to bid. It arrived today and I was totally surprised to see that it was a marked example, the first I’d seen in person. IMG_2615.jpeg
Here are some pictures of it with the other tools in the set.IMG_2618.jpegIMG_2621.jpegIMG_2622.jpegIMG_2624.jpegIMG_2623.jpeg
