Today I added five more tools to the Plomb collection. That's a good day around here.

(The DBE is P&C and the 3/8" driver is PROTO Professional).

Here they are after a little cleanup, along with a few other things that came home in the box.

Had an inadvertent Plomb acquisition today, these were thrown in with the junk tools and dirt and bolts and stuff with a Snap-on socket set I got at an opportunistic yard sale I saw and stopped at on the way to the building supply.

Thanks for the info on the carbon scraper, never would have guessed. I'll use it as a general scraper on my Camaro.

Don't have a lot of Plomb but found this WF-42 1/2 drive 3/8" socket, looks like it might have a date code.Image%20(6).jpegImage%20(7).jpegImage%20(8).jpgImage%20(9).jpeg

Those ignition slip-joints are not easy to find in my experience, Dave.

I agree. I've been collecting that type of small pliers for awhile, and this is only the second one of this Plomb I have. I have another slightly different set, too, cant remember the number. I've put pictures of them on here before.

I passed on the rest of the plomb stuff, there were some misc. small wrenches for $.50 and $1.00 each. These were in with the ferret set and a lot of bolts, junk tools, and dirt. I didn't see the plomb pliers until I had it home and was dumping out the dirt. They were buried in the dirt in the bottom.

I'm pretty clueless sometimes, and things can hide. The box was open, and both the bottom and the lid filled with dirty stuff. I started digging through the tools, saw three snap-on sockets, found the extension, and then the ratchet. At that time I decided there was enough value to support the $15 price. It wasn't until I got it home and dumped the stuff out that I realized that it was a snap-on box, and that the set was almost all there, hidden among the trash.

I went to a sale Friday where a guy was downsizing. Among the items I bought were two Plomb brake spring pliers. I almost left behind the rustiest one, but decided that it wouldn't make much difference in a bundled price, and I was right.

When I got home, I compared them because the handle ends were a little different. That is when I discovered that one was an LA version and the other was a USA version. Not only that, but they had different part numbers! LA is 2015 and USA is 215. This matches the catalogs for the respective eras.

Both are rusty and abused, but it makes things interesting to find out details like this!

Found a very rough combo and a pretty nice 3/8" breaker from 1930.
Nice grab. Hit me up if you want to trade off that bar.

Very nice. Hard to find those early pliers!

Smoke, you have a lot more persistence and interest than I do! I've thrown better boxes into the scrap metal. Nice work.

Thanks! You would probably laugh if you knew how much time I have into this. I fixed the damage and most of the big dents but left some because it has some vintage repairs and damage that I can’t get out so I am going to make it look like a nice used one

[emoji849][emoji849][emoji23][emoji23]. We already have each others addresses and it would take a fairly good trade to get this out of my cold hands. I have about 35 hours into it to make it look this good

That would be me. I should have them tonight as the seller is local to me so I arranged to pick up rather than risk the mail losing them.
And yes, I will be glad to share pictures of them when I get them.

Thank you! I tried talking the seller into taking pictures but got crickets. I didn't want the information to be lost.

The info definitely won't be lost. I know how unique these are, the bigger one of the 2 I believe is from 1923 or so, so quite possibly one of the earliest around.
In time I might even scan these so they can be viewed by others.

The bigger one is mid 20s the one on the left smaller one I think is not known in the original list amongst the collectors. I you need help dating them I know a guy.

So I now have them in my possession. The smaller one says that Plomb has been making tools for 18 years, the bigger one says they have been making tools for the last 16 years.
So if they are founded in 1907, the bigger one is 1923, the smaller would be 1925?

Funny you should mention that... we were supposed to cook something tonight in the oven but I proposed to order out from our favorite local restaurant instead [emoji23] it definitely leaves a bit of a paint smell so be advised you might want to do this when your wife will be away for a while.

Not as amazing as some of the other stuff being posted but I picked up this 5/8" X 3/8" deep LA socket.

Very interesting. Is there a catalog number on the smaller one?IMG_20201007_194837617.jpegIMG_20201007_194844314.jpeg

Awesome score, but man did you pony u for them. I bet the seller **** his pants watching that bid run up.

When Twersty and I started searching and scanning 1926 was the oldest we could find and it was labeled catalog #6. I don’t know if catalogs were produced annually like the were later on, or only periodically, but I would be interested to know.

I just realized I have two sockets marked with a 9 for 1939, but one says USA, the other is marked LA. Normal?

I have a few like that. I'm betting the transition was done sometime during the year, not exactly Jan 1, 1939. It does seem though that majority of 1939s are USA.
