I have 2 steps going from my garage to the house and would love to do this style that you have. I've been looking for stair tread and the diamond plate kick panels and was wondering if you had those cut special and where you got the stair tread from. I found some at lowes but way to costly for what i need. 395$ for a pack of 6 of the stair tread. talk about sticker shock. OMG!!!! Do you have any suggestions?

Sorry for the delay in responding.. I didn't see this. You're probably done already, but to answer your questions:

The diamond plate kick panels were each custom cut - as their dimensions were all unique. We used 5086 matte/dull finished aluminum plate. This type of dull finish plating was only available in 3/16" thickness, and is very hard to cut. My contractor hated me for this choice, but we don't do 'shiny' in the shop :)

We sourced the material from here - they will custom cut any size piece for a small fee. Great place to buy raw metals:

The stair treads were purchased by my contractor, but you can buy them online. Here is a link to the manufacturer page where we found our design (design #800)

I feel ashamed I haven't commented on this thread earlier. I really love this build, I followed it a while ago. Very cool.

WOW, just wow....I don't have the words to describe what you have built.
Simply stunning, the attention to detail, the lighting, the furniture, this has to be the ultimate 'man-space'.

Thanks so very much guys!

Nicely done. Any updates?

We've got a new baby boy at home, so I've been off the site for a while.

Final pics below.. top is right after the build and the bottom two are of the 'completed' upstairs. Pretty much the same as it looks now.

Up until end of June, I was working a ton on the Factory Five roadster. Since then, not so much... Oh well.

It's truly been my pleasure sharing our place with all of you. If you're in the Minneapolis area for Cars & Coffee sometime, hit me up.. Happy to give you a tour.

Congratulations on the baby boy. I've got three sons, and they've definitely made my world totally enjoyable. He'll be helping you in the shop in no time.

Congrats on the baby boy. Thank you for sharing your great garage.:beer:

You're very welcome & thanks much.

He is the best thing that ever happened to me.

I wish I would have listened to parents who told me how great having kids was 20 years ago.

Oh well.. onward & upward.

Great space you have there and project.
Where did you get that setup for the video game?

Thanks.

The seat is from a New Zealand company - Vision Racer

http://us.visionracer.com/global/index.html
http://us.visionracer.com/_product_53109/VisionRacer_-_VR3_Rig,_Gear_Shifter_Mount_and_LCD_Stand

Review: http://www.gtplanet.net/visionracer-vr3-review/

Bought it on eBay and saved $100.

You get the seat/frame/TV mount/shifter mount in one big box shipped from Cali. Came in 5 days.

It's made for PS3 and G25 or G27.

Our PS3, LCD, Logitech G27 wheel/pedal/shifter set were extra.

I use a 32" Sony screen for my setup (I'm using a table for the LCD/PS3 as I didn't want to get up every time I needed to reach the PS3).. I wouldn't personally go bigger - especially with the stock distance.

It's a very good seat - there are better ones available, but at least 2 times the price.

LMK if I can help further.

Carburated 347 stroker derived from a Boss 302 block.
Dart heads, zero balanced, all forged.
Dyno'd 482/444 @ 6300 on a very conservative A/F ratio.
Plenty of power given the independent rear setup and 2100lb or so completed weight.

Beautiful garage.

As to your line of work, dot.com seems to be spoken for by a domain squatter right now. I assume you mean that you work for or own an online business? If so, what is your role in the business, and what's your site?

Looks great buddy.

Awesome specs!! But still not a 427, like the originals! :p

True, but technically, the 'originals' had a 260 cid engine. Shelby introduced the 427 side oiler (FE) in the MK3 in 1965.

Most guys who attempt to be 'original', don't use an FE, they use a 427W (351 block). I considered this, then decided to save the 60lbs. Very happy with my 347.

My view is that either you have a true 'original' Shelby (and then you might have a 289 or a 427 (or even a 428 in a couple)), or you have something else (be that a Factory Five, Backdraft, Superformance...). In the case of the latter, the 'original' stuff was already out the window.

The added weight of an original FE would never provide the type of handling that I'm after (autocross), and anything over 450bhp is wasted on a 2100lb rear wheel drive car anyway.

Chris

What is the story on the blue Camaro in the background?

Jim

Yenko 'replica' built back to OE specs, save the engine that has been massaged a bit ;)

Chris, your thread never disappoints.

That warmed over 347 wil be plenty for that project, especially autocross. I'm guessing about 11.5 comp ? You made a good choice in buying the Boss block, (crate engine ?) over using a stock 5.0 roller block.

I must say that this shop/garage is the best I´ve seen! BIG congrats to pulling this off.

Thanks guys. We love ours the way we built it, but there are some really, really amazing places at Motorplex. I was in one of my neighbor's places this past weekend and it made our place look very plain by comparison.

Thanks. The engine was built by Dave at Carriage House. He used a Boss block, but not a crate engine per se. He spec'd all the parts. it's 10.5 to 1 compression. Custom cam grind (his special sauce). Would spin to 6500, but power peaks at 6300, so no sense pushing it. With a solid lifter cam and a couple tweaks to the valve train, the rotating assembly could take 7500 easy.

My bad i hadn't check this in a while either. But thanks for the information i plan on doing it this winter.

Great.. best of luck.

I was just browsing an old issue of Modified Magazine (March 2011), and low and behold, on Page 74 there is a photo of a Mitsibushi Ralliart project car taken in your garage. They should have shown pictures of the whole garage!

Thanks guys.

Yeah, Skyline, that's Ryan Gate's car. He's a friend of a buddy of mine, Luis Fraguada. Luis called one day and asked if they could do some mods at my place (they needed a dry/well-lit place). I said sure.

Cool car and Ryan and his friends were very cool.

I never saw the pics.. you have a link?

Ran across the right one at the right time from the right place. Delivery on September 16th. Put 1K miles on her up to 11/29. LOVE it. Amazing car. Bumper delete, pulley/tune/Ford Racing exhaust +/- 625whp. Moves along nicely.

Ok, (too many) pics below to make up for my sandbagging.
