I think it's a fair price.
I think $30 is a fair price. Looks straight and rust free. It almost looks like the bottom left slide has been re welded or something? Hard to tell from the pics.
It is kind of a small box, but would be a good portable box. You don't see to many drop down cover craftsman boxes for sale.
All in all, if I had a use for it, I would pay the $30

Hey guys if I pick this up should I try to find the same color and restore it or clean it up an leave it. Or one last option which not sure if its possible but clean it up and just clear it with a Matte finish to really bring out the patina.

I mean, if he wanted $1000 for it I might understand a question about that, but for $30?
What it's worth depends strictly on what the buyer thinks it's worth and what he'll pay.
Do what you like, it's your toolbox...if you want to paint it, do so, if you don't, don't.

Well it's actually kinda interesting to find what others opinions are. Sometimes I end up with a whole differ idea or direction for a project! And I'm sorry if u disagree.

I have a similar one. Paid more. In worse shape. Spent many hours removing rust and old paint to reveal what you already have.
I'd snap it up in a heartbeat and clean it up real good. Save the restoration for another day (or decade). I'm starting to like stuff the way I find it, rather than spending hours and $$$ trying (in vain, usually) to turn it into something I wished it was.

Isn't that what this site is totally about? Helping each other out? Maybe not everyone has your knowledge or expertise. The guy is on here asking a honest question, and it's about TOOLS! Something we all have in common and love.
SOCAL, it's a cool box and you'll dig it. A close match is Rustoleum Hammertone grey/silver...forget which one off hand. And like another member here said, $30 won't get you anything that nice now-a-days. Just check it out when you're there and make sure it does what a toolbox should.

As long as it's not tweaked or thrashed I'd say that's a good deal.
I have the 3 drawer version of it, and it's a nice box. Mine included the bottom box and they were both loaded with tools for $50.
THAT was a great day.
I just cleaned it up and put it to work.

I can't wait to get my hands on it. Something about the older tools and tool chest just had alot of style and screamed proud to be American!!!!!!!!! So far I'm supposed to meet the person tomorrow morning! So I all goes well I have a great vintage tool box for my work bench!!!!

What!!!!! Wow u got top and bottom for 50 with tools what a sweet deal!!!! I'm so jealous!!!! If u can can u take and post some pics for me so I can see what the bottom looks like! Also did your top box have the lock located in the same spot? If so can u take a pic of what to lock and latch look like!

Wow they look great!!! Love the look of them. They have a certain prideful style to them back then!!! After seeing the pics of how good it looks with the top and bottom!!!!! I'm defiantly jealous! Going to have to keep a eye out or a bottom chest now lol!!! Thanks for the pics!!! And look forward to seeing the lock and latch!!!

Definitely buy it. Those front hinged cover Craftsman boxes are rare, and worth spending some time on. I'm thinking the right side slide on one or the other drawer is not in right.
I'd also try a good car finish cleaner/rub out before jumping to paint. You might be surprised what come up under the oxidation...

I clean her up just a bit! And polished up the handles and emblem as best I could
I kinda like the way it looks how it is so I might just leave it for now then maybe later I might repaint it! The door was a little tweaked but I straighten it out as best I could. So it closes almost perfect now. Funny thing I stopped by my father in laws on the way home to show him the new box. And he actually had these in this shop from the same era!
He's 80! And there were handed down from his father! I tried to find a date in them but don't really know where to look! But there really great looking and work great so jealous!

The T saw is 50's, and a good 10 incher. (I have two of them bolted side by side...)

I wouldn't do a thing other than maybe a coat of wax. You could always paint it, but it will loose some cool factor!
I think I have the same box as the one you just got. I really like the metal carry handle, it has a good solid feel to it. madison069

That's a sweet box!! I'd love to find one like that!!!! Yea I'm actually In the process of repainting both of mine!!!! Just love how they look after u fresh them up with some new paint and bring them back to life. Nothing beats old stuff that was made in the good old USA!!!!

Back on topic.. it's a cool old box. Question for the vintage C-man gurus. Did these originally come with a carry tray in the top like the smaller C-man boxes ?
