Damn that's cool Rick!! I've been looking at those myself..but haven't been convinced to pony up the $ for one. Looks like it's working out well for you! Do you just have them on top of the racedeck?

Yeah, the whole thing sits on top of the RaceDeck with no issues. The weight is dispersed evenly so no gouges whatsoever. Sure as heck beats jacking up all four corners individually. I love it. Here's a few more showing how it looks under the car.

Rick,

That's AWESOME! And no more needing to move the tiles or brake out a board or anything to jack up the ride. Good stuff!!

Hi rick, how do you properly wash your exhaust tip, with the construction of the new house this summer, I didn't had time to wash mines and they are really messy, cant find a way to remove the carbon on it. thanks

A little water and steel wool is your best bet. I have various degrees of steel wool. "00" is pretty good if the carbon build up is pretty bad. I find carbon build up a real pain on my car, so I do them religiously and they still don't look perfect when I'm done. I have some other products as well.

Here's a video that mirrors my process:

No doubt I've missed this in a prior post, but couldn't find the answer with a search. What is the purpose of the chain and hook in the end of the garage door track?

Things look great as usual - thanks for keeping things updated.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Such a nice setup you have!!!

You car/garage is now on Quickjack's website

http://www.quickjack.com/why-quickjack/letter-from-jack/

I got one when they came out and have loved it. Now I see it on TV shows like garage squad.

Yeah, I gave the QuickJack people permission to use my photos for their marketing. Glad to see they are putting them to such creative use.

hmmm I might have to get one

I am really appreciating the QuickJack. Highly recommend.

Nice catch. I use those to keep the extension cord mounted on the ceiling from rubbing against my car. I had the heavy duty hooks lying around. They are kind of overkill, but they do the job.

Hey Rick! Been a while! Love your updated posts.

Your youtube channel really helped out on learning what products to buy for detailing. Really been enjoying adding the right products and learning how to do a better job cleaning my cars.

Great to hear, Chad. It's incredible how the detailing hobby has advanced in the last few years. Lord knows, you have an awesome stable that deserves the love.

Another photo shoot is lined up for tomorrow. If it pans out, there should be some killer shots to share very soon.

Take care.

I have been meaning to ask for a long time and I keep absentmindedly forgetting, but how are the free flow tiles on bare feet? I love the look and the functionality, and I would kick myself pretty hard if I pulled the trigger on this floor only to despise walking on it.

Rick,

I've been following this thread and recently your YouTube channel. To sum it up, your garage is 110% squared away and you should be very proud. Obviously, a lot of time and thought have gone into that space. Also, the Audi is awesome. As someone aspring for a similar space of my own, I admire what you've done.

Quick question, how do you handle drainage in your garage?

Thanks and take care,
George

I have no issue walking on the Free Flow with shoes, socks, or bare feet. But, that's me. Compared to walking on a bare concrete surface, there's no comparison. I must admit, I rarely spend time in the garage with bare feet, but when I'm doing an interior detail, I wear socks and it is sublime.

Rick are you aware of this website? They are using your garage for all their pictures...

http://www.customgaragedecor.com/

Yeah, that seller and I have worked out a little deal. He certainly likes that one photo I took, that's for sure. Thanks for the heads up, but it's all good.

Thanks for the kind words regarding the garage and car, George. There is no drainage system in my garage per se (my biggest regret in life), so when I do use water in the space, I remove a few of the front edge pieces of my RaceDeck floor and allow gravity, the heat from my infrared heater (in colder weather) and the pitch of the floor to direct the water out the car door. That said, I do take steps to ensure no soaps or chemicals escape. The front edge pieces of my RaceDeck floor act as a barrier/dam so when I have soap on the floor, I capture that water with my wet vac as it pools against the edge pieces. It's not a glamorous task, but it's my way of dealing with it. That said, I don't perform many soapy washes in the garage. I usually take care of my dirty business down at the neighbourhood coin-op and then attend to the finer details once I'm at home. At some point, I will have to photo document the process, but man do I wish I would have just installed a drain when we built the place.

Sidenote: there is talk that the City of Calgary has outlawed garage drains because they suspect people are releasing harmful liquids down them. At this point, I'm not sure if existing drains will continue to be permitted or they will want owners with them to install a separator system.

A different photographer friend of mine popped by on Sunday to take some photos for her portfolio. She is trying to diversify her portfolio. Her specialty is in the area of capturing night skies and majestic landscapes. Pfft....she needs to concentrate on garages if you ask me. She is still in the editing phase, but sent me this teaser:

Yeah, it has certainly been an amazing ride to this point. Things continue to evolve, just not in the drastic manner of days past, but I will never say things are done! Thanks for the comment.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Hey Rick,

What do you do about the undercarriage in the winter months?

George

Ack! Don't remind me! My car has many plastic covers on the underbelly, so I usually just use the high pressure soap gun at the local coin-op. It's a losing battle in the winter, so I don't really worry too much about it. I do my best during the rest of the year to keep the wheel wells and undercarriage clean, though. Winter is such dirty business.

I recently posted two videos to my YouTube channel. One is the winter wheel swap and the other is me preparing my "shoulder season" setup for winter storage.

Videos:
Wheel swap
Prepping wheels for storage

Nice pic, waiting for the rest of them!

I'm getting white stains on the garage floor from the salt used in huge amounts here lately. Really need to get that RaceDeck to have a nice looking garage such as yours even in the winter.

Hope you had a great Christmas Rick! Love the updates. I scored some great new detailing items from Chemical guys and Griots for Christmas and thought of you. You do an amazing job on your details.

Rick, it took me a few weeks, but I finally got through all 82 pages. I had stumbled upon your youtube channel a while back and then found my way to your website and GJ. As a fellow Audi owner, I absolutely love what you've done with your garage and really like how it works with your SQ5! You are definitely an inspiration for me to do something with my own space.

Looking forward to whatever else you have cooking . . .

What is the depth/width of your garage (not counting the cutout)? I see you posted it's a standard builders size, but what is that? TIA

All the best to you and your family Rick.xmasxmasKeep up the detailing and your blog.

It's been a while since my last post and I never took the time to thank you guys for the nice words surrounding the holidays. I hope you had a nice Christmas as well. Seems like forever ago. Right now, this city is experiencing a very messy melt so keeping a car clean is a futile task. The garage is clean though!

I applaud your determination! That's about 5 years worth of posts, not to mention a lot of trial and error to get things to where they currently are. I do appreciate you taking the time to read it all and then comment. It never ceases to amaze me how my obsession has resonated with others. It's just great. Take care.

Rick that was me that posted on obsessed garage with your pic.

Thanks for that! I've been picking up some tips from all the cool detailing garages featured over there. Plus, I like it when people pick fights with each other over Mustangs! LOL

Originally, the garage was 20' wide by 22/24' deep. Here's the blueprint:

Haha! The one college dude with the AMG C63 coupe and his brother with the sedan? Crazy.

Here's some glam shots taken back in the Fall. My way of stoking the flames of interest in a garage that's pretty much "done".

Love the pics Rick! Always motivating seeing your garage, and knowing all the work you've put into it.

Quick question.. how deep are the drawers on that craftsman tool box on the left in the top picture?

And where are the fashionable vans at? ;)

As always, thanks for the compliments Kyle. And thanks for asking about my Craftsman box. I just love it. The drawers are 22" deep. The top one is 52" wide so it holds my pad collection. The Vans are always there, just sometimes out of frame!

Thanks for the info Rick! That craftsman tool box just looked VERY deep in the picture, could have been the angle? Looks like a good box to me though!

I'm considering building a bench with two tool boxes loaded in it (remove casters), like the SteveO setup (but with a gap in the middle for a stool). I don't move my tool boxes around much, though yours looks nice and big (good rolling workspace).

Thanks again!
