How are you getting rid of all the sawdust?

I know it piles up fast.
It is starting to pile up.

I’d love to find a use for it, but seems unlikely.

I do have a number of farmers/ranchers in the area. Maybe they’ll have a use for it.

Mulch flower beds.

Many horse people worry about some flavor, think it's black walnut, that is toxic to horses.

Small log, but I have high expectations.

It’s straight, good condition, fairly tight growth rings, and a relatively low moisture content.

Douglass Fir.

Got me a nice 10’ 6x6.

Currently $10.88 LF

$108.80 for about 15 minutes equals $435.20/ hr.

I’m getting up there with attorneys 😲

Going to see you advertising on the back page of the phone book and on billboards soon?
Riven and Hewn does sound like a Law Firm…
You’re going to need a catchy radio jingle…
“Is your beach a wreck?
With logs all strewn?
Need a check?
Call Riven and Hewn! “

Riven Do you have a moisture meter? I'd be interested in just hearing every now and then the moisture content on those logs you pull out.

I shared with RivennHewn that our local large University has a portable sawmill used to mill salvaged campus trees. The program has multiple facets: repurpose downed trees, sustainability/recycling, etc.. The products produced are mostly over-priced and aimed at creating a "pet rock" type of marketing scheme. People pay more for something perceived as special. I.E., a table, pen, or college diploma framed in wood from a 120 year old campus tree. I suggested RivennHewn start his own "pet rock" phenomenon, LOL - historic salvaged river trees! A few pics and links: https://www.canr.msu.edu/for/programs/swri

All joking aside, the sawdust market is really tight in my neighborhood. Poultry farmers will pay serious money for shavings if you could find a way to keep them dry in between pickups.

I still need to talk to my neighbors. They have horses, goats, pigs, and chickens. Seems they could use some fresh bedding for some creatures.

A bit of a slow day at the mill. Just a lot of clean up and organizing/maintenance.

The off cuts are stacking up, but I may have found a use for them.

My cousin’s kid teaches spoon carving classes, as well as other craft projects aimed at kids.

I selected a bunch of the better offcuts, cut them at 18”, and piled them up for pickup.

The rest went to the firewood pile.

I still have a truckload to go through.

Even after giving away the wood for the spoons, that is still a big forking pile to whittle down…
Once it gets bigger, I’ll pull the dump handle!

But, I’m Outta logs☹️

Need to get this Evergreen ship moved off my ramp!

Guess we have our own Suez Canal here... Paddled by your place a few years back, but managed to not get my kayak wedged in the channel.

Are you getting most of your logs from the water as driftwood?

Still out of logs, and nothing moving on the channel.

Started goofing off with the chainsaw.

No bears, no sea captains.

Aiming for a free-form wave or fire vibe, but it will most likely be a beach 🔥 A La Burning Man.
