The last 48 hours have been a good test for the kiln.

4” of rain, and 50+ mph winds.

It’s still standing. The only water inside is at the door openings.

Fun rolling a 2,000 lbs log up on the mill by myself.

I misjudged the length of the yellow strap, and the winch hook hit the spool before the log was completely up and secure. Luckily I was able to use the peavey to complete the loading.

Believe this is an Alder. Nice looking material no matter what it is.

Edit: now thinking it’s a Tulip Poplar.

I agree with you on it being nice wood.

Tide brought in a snaggy bunch of smaller stuff, and wrapped it around a pile.

Went and brought it in for my neighbor’s firewood pile.

Had to get wet up to the knees😬. Water is kinda chilly in November.

Any of you logger types recognize these marks?

I’m thinking they are from a limbing machine.

Always wonder how logs get harvested, limbed, and then let go into the water to find their way to me.

Debarking rolls?
Maybe??

Sometimes you risk ******* off the neighbors because the logs move into your yard, and the tide is out and you feel like lett’n the chainsaw rip at 10:00 at night😜

Note to self: don’t get the chainsaw stuck in a log at low tide. Saltwater isn’t good for chainsaws.

Had to pound the wedges in to keep from getting the bar jammed.

Riv, I think you have a great set up there, Mother nature sending you an endless supply of unique logs. How cool!
It’s enough to make me happy!

Cut up the tangled mess this morning.

Got four 8- footers that are pretty consistently sized at +/- 7” dia. Might make for an interesting project. Also got a couple for the mill, and a couple shorter pieces from the root/trunk transition area.

Left a lot for my neighbor’s firewood habit.
