Darn. That list has my local Sears on it. It's the only one that's convenient for me to ever go to.

Does anyone have any advice on what the liquidation process looks like? I've heard that everything gets marked up and then slowly marked down.

Do the closing stores still have in store pickup available until they close?

Is your local store still showing up as a pickup option on the website?

Many non-Sears shoppers who are clueless about normal sale pricing will show up, and the liquidation specialist knows this. Expect everything to be reset to the regular full price.

We all know that the $99.99 Gearwrench 20pc ratcheting wrench set is usually on sale for $49.99 (50% off). If the liquidator starts with 10% off on tools, then the set will be $89.99. People can go nuts when they see 25% off, so the sets may start flying off the shelf at $74.99. A regular in this thread would probably wait for it to go below $49.99, but good luck finding any by then.

Store fixtures have more potential being a good deal for small businesses. The more items you're willing to bundle, the better your position when haggling.

Sears in Huntsville, AL is closing. Announced and signs up about two weeks before Christmas, picked almost dry in tool section (no returns, all sales final) about three days later.

Was told they'll keep selling what's there until the final day but aren't receiving any inventory, not even in-store pickup items.

My local sears is going through liquidation now. They are at the 45% markdown rate at the moment. First thing they did was to put all the tool sets and power tools on pallets to ship out to other stores still in operation. Otherwise, Doohickey is spot-on with his assessment. Everything else is starting to fly off the shelves.

People don't realize they are just paying regular sales prices at this point. I doubt much will be left once they hit the 75 or even 60% mark. You can approach the manager if you're buying a bunch of stuff though. The manager was willing to work with me on a few things I bought.

Brewton Sears Hometown Store is liquidating now.

Picked up a bunch of craftsman professional screwdrivers for $2.25. Assembled several torx sets.

Bought an air hose. With the discount it was regular sale price.

Most of the hand tools are already Chinese. I had hoped they'd bring in some old stock but no such luck.

Don't know about in store pickup but I can tell you that, at least in my experience that items definitely get marked up. I was looking at an air ratchet and evidently they forgot to remove the regular price label from it. The sale price was at least 10% higher than the original price.

They boost everything up to MSRP. Sales prices before liquidation are the best you'll get. Too many people take the bait and buy overpriced items with a % sign on them. They closed our local store and it was empty before the prices even returned to normal. Fixtures on the other hand, someone will get a decent deal (as stated above).

And whoever the liquidator is will bring in outside "JUNK" to sell at the usual inflated price marked down to the current percentage off.

My local Sears was closed 3-4 years ago in March and I went in once or twice. Waste of my time.

The Craftsman stools are definitely worth it, feels more refined than the others sold via Amazon, HF, and more. It doesn't wobble and feel like its going to fall apart, quite sturdy and firm.

I have a couple of the craftsman stools and they are ok, not real comfortable or sturdy but they do the job

If the stools are rickety in the store, it is because the employees who assembled it work for Sears. That said, they're not bombproof but they're good. They're also made by *someone* else 'cause my local parts store has one at the counter which is identical but it says Mac or Matco or something. But the seat was more of a "clearcoat" gloss and cracked more easily.

My local Sears announced the closing yesterday. As of today, you can still do in store pickup. From that link that you offered previously, it sounds like the liquidation sales will start on or around January 7th.

I'm sad to see it go, but it isn't hard to see why. It is in a really sad mall as the only anchor store left. Even the food court is closed in this mall. Driving through the parking lot is like driving over the surface of the moon with all the potholes.

Thanks for your advice everyone!

4 of my stools live outside year round. You can see the chrome legs are starting to rust. I've been meaning to go after them w some NevrDull. I got at least some of them at $39.99, but that was years ago. At "regular" retail of $99 they're not worth it. $40-50 they're great.

Unfortunately, the views are terrible.

Seems like all the parts stores have them with that clearcoat and most of them are cracked.

I didn't really need anything, but stacking up several deals I just couldn't resist...

First I bought a $50 e-gift card on Sears with my Amex, which will give me a $10 credit.
Next I saw on RetailMeNot that they have a $10 back via PayPal when you spend $40 at Sears (and stackable with other coupons).
Finally Sears has a surprise $9 off $50 in points, plus I have a little over $4....

So $33 off stuff if I spend over $50.... I'm saving money, right???

Last day to grab these little 75t ratchet sets for $19.99 with 50% back in points! For $10 each that's a pretty good deal. Throw in a little more in the cart and there's a $5 off $50 coupon you can load on the sears site too...

i know that ratchets are like religion here, but i will come out and say that i really like those 75 tooth ratchets. i like the handle a lot more than i like the larger ones on the 84 tooth ratchets, and like the mechanism better also . . . . .

for the money (they are available separately for 18$, but spending 2$ more and getting all that extra stuff seems like a pretty good deal, even before getting the 10$ back in points (if you actually do get it)) i think they are a fantastic deal at these prices.

Just got my sets thursday by the big brown truck. Love the ratchets also got the 1/4 drive sets they had for $10.00 a piece (could not help myself lol). Even tho they are from overseas really like the 75 tooth also.

Just picked mine up, saw a stack of coupons by register. They expire today, but $10 off $50 tools using OUTLAWS10

Better than the 5 off 50 on website.

I've been saying this too. Once I got my hands on a 3/8" I went out and bought the 1/2" and 1/4".

I'm not saying they're THE BEST ratchets in the world, but for the price they seem awesome. And as I've said the heads are the same thickness as the low profile Craftsman ratchets (used to be 60T USA now 84T Taiwan). I also like the handles on the 75's better, but that is incredibly subjective.

Ordered 3 sets for car tool sets. Great deal with the points and coupon.

The outlaw coupon worked for me.
