Well, it WAS on my list of things to keep an eye on during the store liquidation.

I still can't believe so many power tools got bought up at the pathetic starting discount of 10% off.

This happened to me a few years back when the last Sears Hardware store closed in our area. 10% off and people went nuts. I was able to score a few good things at 50% off. But the pickings were slim.

The main problem is in the way they advertise stuff. Its usually not the company that does the liquidation, they bring in a 3rd party to oversee the liquidation and that company makes a percentage off what they sell. So they spend $$$ on advertising at the beginning.

Same thing happened when the local sports authority got liquidated. It *****, cause 10 even 20% off is nothing when it comes to certain stuff.

Those store liquidations are a joke. My local Kmart just closed in October and they jacked the prices up so high even when stuff was getting to 40 or 50% off you could still go to Sears and get it cheaper without any coupons.

Just about any Sears still operating is in more of a "clearance state" than an actual closing Sears

Sears has a price match if done within 30 days. I have purchased a 10" bandsaw, 10" drill press and a 16" scroll saw. They are now on sale a few dollars cheaper about 45 total but they are now giving 77 in rewards total on the 3 items.

So I do the online chat and they refund the difference and told me to contact sywr for the points to be added. So I did that and they tell me no and if I want the items I'd have to take them back and reorder. Free shipping on these items so I'd imagine that cost sears over 100'to ship back and have the new items shipped.

Had anyone else run into this? The sywr guy didn't appear to want to help out at all. Just makes no sense why they would want you to return and rebuy for the price differences and then pay shipping twice. They will spend more money than what they are going to give me back to do it this way. But, may be why they are in the financial shape they are in

Honestly, SYWR is almost as reliable as a used power tool found in your neighbor's trash. I hate to break it to you, but the most efficient way of getting your $77 in points is to return and rebuy. You may call SYWR 7 times and finally get someone to give you points, but Sears and Shopyourway are pretty much distinct, yet eerily unreliable companies at this point.

Unfortunately, SYWR is a high risk / high yield proposition for anything now. You can score some great deals, but it takes alot of work. What you're running into is similar to the old 'rebate' scheme where they hope you give up, forget, etc and the points never get paid out.

agreed.

Return / rebuy is the easiest method in any retail snafu. Some retail computers don't allow the same kind of discounting when done in an exchange method. On top of that, sometimes explaining the simplest of reasons why you need to do the exchange, fly over retail people for some reason :dunno:, almost a guarantee at Sears.

If it is something big, I will sometimes buy it first, then return it, avoiding having to haul in any of the original purchase (check online to see if in stock), and easier for the employee to conceptualize in their head.

I think their should be some kind of class action against companies that are one-in-the-same for all purposes except name, but make you bounce back and forth for these kind of shenanigans. (and companies that have long hold times but can't give you an estimated wait/# ahead/call back option).

Sears & Shop Your War Rewards (sometime it is getting the points)
Verizon & Verizon Prepaid
Ebay & PayPickPockets (they were the same, now separately ****)

Sears has always struggled w the concept of exchange. They love return and rebuy which is all fine UNTIL sales are involved. Once trying to explain to the person on the other side of the phone that if I purchased now the sale was over -- they simply didn't get it.

The ramps can fail if NOT used properly.

That's the important point - ANY support device can fail if used improperly. Bing "cars fall off lift" or "car falls off jack".

Have used these ramps for years, like them much better than metal ramps. HOwever, jack stands are NOT recommended, they give a false sense of security but will tend to tip over if the metal or plastic ramp fails, since they cannot be preloaded in this applications.

I went to my local store today. The last time I was there was the day before the liquidation began. At that point, employees were buying tons of stuff themselves.

I went in today. Everything was 10% off and the store was more busy than I have ever seen it. Tons of empty pegs. Most of the good stuff was already gone. It amazes me that people are clearing shelves at a 10% discount when everything in the store basically would be 50% off a few times a year.

This is exactly what they did when the Kmart near me closed. The so called discounts were a joke. But there were tons of dumbasses there grabbing things up.

Went to my closing sears tonight. Shelves looked more full than normal it seemed, with the highest prices I've seen in a long time. It was also the busiest I've seen it in years. Maybe Sears should just perpetually always have their stores in clearance mode.

The biggest discount I found was on Dickies clothing, though very sparse selection. Though even there, most of Dickies are at least 50% on the Sears website.

TBH, every time I go to a Sears store, I leave outside feeling depressed. The employees are not all that enthusiastic and when they act as if they're surprised that a customer is lurking around not just in the tools department, but the Men's clothing section as well. The quality at Sears has declined tremendously now. TBH, I think its time for them to liquidate all of their stores, including K-Mart (which I had horrible experience a week or so ago, the placed smelled like fart).

Just think if 20% of those people shopped there prior to the closing event, the stores would not be closing.

But now they can brag to all their friends they got this or that at Kmart/Sears when they were having a closing sale.

In regards to the fully stocked shelves in the closing Sears, all the stock from the back rooms were placed out front to be sold. Then the liquidator lions company will bring more dollar store junk and sell it for more.

The REI near me is closing next month and they have scattered all through the store used, stained and damaged merchandise that I have never seen before displayed. Yeah I believe it's all brought in to sell at a good deal to the customer.

Went to the sears at the mall today. Lots of stuff red-tagged on sale, some marked down considerably (but of course sold out). They had some good prices on rolling toolboxes. I wish I took some pictures but it totally skipped my mind. It just seems like they have more stuff marked down now than before christmas... Not the same items, mostly random stuff... but a lot of it.

The funniest part about these "deals" is that all sales are final at these store closing sales.

I tried to get two of the Olympia Workbenches today and neither Kmarts I went to would sell them to me at the clearance price. Both are going out of business and had signs up that said at least 10-30% of everything, but they were still full price and wouldn't come down any.

My local Sears Hometown store didn't need to go below 45% for the tools. Everything has been wiped out. The paint dept. had some good buys. Picked up some staples like laquer thinner, boiled linseed oil, spray paint, at 65% off. Sad to see them go, but a new ACE opened up about a year ago, and there are 5 Home Depots within a 7 mile radius of me..

*cough* ********. I had them price match an olympia workbench for 42 dollars from Kmart 3 days ago.

Not really. 99% of the time places wont match clearance prices. You happen to get lucky. Probably more likely now if you go into a failing store that will take any sale or you got a lazy employee that failed to see the item was clearanced, but I would suggest reading up on T&C at stores, as I've never seen one that says they will match a clearance. Please post if you know of any

That is pretty much a store-by-store thing... Or really an employee-by-employee thing...
Well I called the 1800 corporate number....after a buddy of.mine did the same thing on the.same bench he ordered 2. So you.can take it with a grain of salt but I can confirm it as working the last 3 times it was tried

Not really sure. It's much easier for me to use a cordless electric then to run air lines for something like that, but for someone who works with a lot of air tools it might be great.

Yeah, that's why they're so cheap. I got a 1/4" air impact driver (pistol-grip design, takes 1/4" hex power-bits) for $20 at Home Depot earlier this year. Nobody, but nobody, is doing this with air anymore, now that the cordless tools have gotten so good.
