I saw those at the Sears the other day, I want to say the tag had them around $19... I probably should have done a price check. They didn't have any metric though (and online not showing any stock either).

Are those mini air ratchets any good?

Yes, they work pretty well and are handy for getting into tight spaces. They don't have the torque of a 1/2" drive but they are great for smaller bolts and once larger bolts are broken loose. I use mine all the time, it is a huge time saver.

Found the Sae, $10 ea in store. Look online at max store quanity, if in stock go in person and have manager go find them. We bought 5 sae sets that were never put out on shelf at a very dead sears.

Does anyone know if Sears Hometowns are clearing these out as well? Those seem to be the only places left that have the metric ones in stock still - all the Sears stores proper are apparently long out of stock within a few hundred miles and it's a bit of a drive to get to the nearest Hometown. Rather not make the run and burn significant amounts of fuel if they won't honor the price.

Edit: And no, I won't be reselling them. I need them for my own use and vehicles. :p

As far as I know, Sears Hometown stores are franchise stores and sales are up to individual owners, not Sears. I could be wrong, but thats what I had heard about those.

Hometowns are franchises, but sears controls inventory and clearances. They get a list of tags to print each week to put up. Just call the store & ask nicely what the price is. If it hasn't dropped yet ask if they know if the price will be dropping in the coming weeks. The computer will show them about 3 weeks out, but they won't always divulge that info.

Just called around to a few of them. Seems they're all charging more than the Sears site price and one is charging more than list.

Not once has any of the in-store prices I've seen mentioned in this thread ever been the same price at either of my local stores. I don't know if either is a 'franchise', but one's in the mall and the other is a hometown store and they are ~30 miles apart from one another.

Likewise, I don't ever once recall ever seeing anything priced the same in-store as the sears.com price. They are always different. I order a fair bit - average roughly once a week - from sears.com and always choose the 'ship to store' option if it's available, and before I pick my item up I always go in and compare what I paid online to what the price on the shelf is. The online prices tend to overall be cheaper than my local B&M stores, but not always. They all seem to be completely separate entities from one another.

Yep, welcome to the catastrophe that is Sears...

Hometown stores are independently owned, they just have contracts with KDC Inc. (Kenmore/DieHard/Craftsman). For the most part Sears controls the prices in the Hometown stores.

The big mall stores would be corporate owned.

I typically do store pickup also because 99% of the time online prices are cheaper, or they have special SYW point promos... However a couple times I've been in the Hometown store and went to buy something, I just show him the website price and they will pricematch it no problems. I would assume the big sears stores do that too. But the online prices are stupid, they will go up & down and every which way. Sometimes they are cheap with no SYW bonus, other times they double the price but give 50% back in SYW points. Doing stupid **** like that is one reason they are going into the crapper...

The only time I've run into problems pricematching in-store, is if the item is a 'Hot Buy.' Every once and a while an employee will mistakenly do it, but they aren't suppose to match those (or ones that say online only).

It never hurts to ask, the only thing they can do is say no.

Thats it right there. I forget what store I had argued with that their online price was cheaper than the B&M store, but they outright said its a different company and would not price match.

. . . but they outright said its a different company and would not price match.

which is funny, because i thought the *whole point* of price matching was to match prices with *different companies*.

my local sears will not price match with their web site. ever. they leave me with the impression that they won't price match with anyone, but my transactions have been pretty limited the last few years.

i have stood there, and ordered it on my phone. the issue is you have to wait 20 or 30 minutes for someone to come down to get it. last time i did that, i waited for them in tools. when they came down, i showed them the order on my phone, and they foozled with their hand held, and gave it directly to me. even went and got me a bag from the sales counter.

the employees dont understand it either.

You shouldn't have to wait. If you go right to the pick-up computer kiosk, it should have your order in the system. Just go there to pick it up and they're supposed to have it ready in 5 mins (although if they have to pull it it might take longer, but they're on the clock at that point!).

The employees aren't supposed to price match if it says "online only," but many work on commission and still want the sale, silly rules be damned.

it's 5 minutes from when they have the order ready after you've received the "Ready for Pickup email"

Not when you decide on your own to come to the store and they don't have it ready for pickup.

Our local stores can take hours or even half a day to get the order ready. More so at kmart, but sears is still not instantaneous.

Can you pull up the order on the kiosk before receiving the "ready for pickup" email? I don't usually buy online while I'm in store, so I'm not sure I've ever tried. If you can, it doesn't matter what they say. The store is "graded" on how well they stay under that 5 minute mark, which starts ticking when you pull up the order on the kiosk.

Don't think so. It is like if you ordered something online for in-store pickup. You might be able to swipe your card to pull the order up, but it will say you have no items for pick up, and something about if you do, call an attendant.

fortunately, someone was thinking when they wrote the code for their pick up system (this one time at least)

A couple times I've pulled the order myself, and taken it right to the pickup window. They brought it up on the computer, "filled it", and I was out the door.

Craftsman 75-piece Combination Tap & Die Carbon Steel Set is on "sale" for $109.99 for Craftsman Club members with $51.89 back in points. I read where some were saying they was not worth the last sales price but what about now?

They aren't worth squat because they are carbon steel and not high speed steel. They are just junk, don't buy them...

However the thread restore kit people say good things about. But that's just for cleaning threads, not tapping new ones.

Sears website had some crazy reward points for a little while today but they are now not as much. 10" bandsaw was 170 with 70 in points back. 8" bench grinder was 160 with 100 back in points. I loaded my cart and was only able to buy a 31" cart for 80 with 30 back in points. Now it's 99 with 10 back in points

What brand of T&D's would you recommend? I actually bought the 50-piece last week for $15 after points & such, but was thinking of upgrading to the 75-piece because the 50-piece was Carbon-alloy.

Though in reality, I would be using it more for restoring threads, than making a new whole entirely, so maybe they will be fine for that?

sears.com has the Midwest Snips 2-piece Aviation Snips set for $29.99 right now, before points/coupons.

http://www.sears.com/midwest-snips-2-pc-snip-set-offset-aviation/p-00942894000P

These are USA-made sheet metal snips, supposed to be very good. Shopyourway is showing $10 off $50 for me, so basically $25 for the snips if I can find something else good in the $20-$30 price range.

Honorable mention: Home Depot has the 3-piece set of Wiss snips for $30 right now, left over from Black Friday I believe.

Bonus, video about how to get the best results with these snips:

TIP! Use the proper tool for the job...... Restoring threads?? Grab the thread restore kit, it is good. Cutting Threads?? Get a quality tap and die kit and AVOID the cheap POS carbon steel kits.

I think he meant like "here's a tip"... lol.

The regular tape & dies are probably okay for restoring threads, but CMan does make a good kit for that (which other companies rebrand as their own I believe):

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-48-pc-sae-metric-thread-restorer-kit/p-00942275000P

The CMan professional pry bars are nice, I see you can order online, but I noticed the soonest pickup in store was March 2!!! So they might not ship right away???

I'm tempted to get those Wiss snips from HD... So tempted...

I think I'm gonna get the Midwest Snips and the $15 mini-pliers set, if I can find just find something for $5 to hit the threshold for $10 off $50. Watching that video convinced me that I don't need the yellow snips, just the red and the green.

I have been told, that the actual re-thread repair set, is better than a tap, as
a tap can "hog out" metal, where it is not wanted to be removed.
Don't know how accurate that is, But made sense to me.
That being said, I have used a tap to restore threads.
