I regularly see the metric 7-piece in store marked down to ~$40, but then the SAE is still $99.99 right next to it.
I don't think anyone will ever figure out their pricing strategies, if there are any to begin with

The Sears store closest to me is closing. It's an hour away. For those that have gotten the deals when one closed is it worth the effort? I've gotten just about everything I could possibly want from Sears due to the forum but I'm sure I can find a few more things

nope. Store is sold to a liquidator. Prices go back closer to what the highest price tag was, then get slowly marked down. They will bring in **** from other stores to fill it up more than it probably has been in years. The 'Going out of Business" theatrics will bring in droves of (a certain kind of) customer at first, thinking they will be getting a good deal as the store is closing.

When all the Sears stores around here closed, I cancelled my Sears card, don't need it anymore. Not much I need from Sears anyway.
X2. When Sears that closed near me went to liquidation, ZERO tools made it past the 20% off stage. It was hilarious how people lined up to overpay.

List of next round of closings. Best chance for anything you want is BEFORE the store goes to the liquidator. And you still can use points/coupons/exchange at another store if something is wrong, that is if another store does exist near you.
Also looks like all the Gladiator brand product on the website is no longer "sold" by Sears. I bet that means we will be seeing local clearances on that stuff as well? (This probably goes along with Sears no longer carrying Whirlpool brand stuff?)
hmm this is going to be interesting. Wife and I got $5 of $5 for Kmart, so we ordered some little stuffs online for store pick-up. The items is not ready for pick-up until later. Yesterday we find out that store is closing. I wonder if we can pick up our items after the store goes to liquidator (the item is not ready until then).
I tried to order something online today, and they already stop the website from allowing pick-up from that store.
I am glad the local hometown Sears is not closing down. I have gotten to know some of them well, and would hate to see those people lose their job.
And agree with the posts above. The "Going out of business" deal is really not a deal imo.

True, for the most part. All drive tools and similar items were sold above everyday regular sales prices. In my case however, I picked up a bunch of welding supplies for very good prices, including a welder for like $200 that normally sold for $429 on sale. This was during the final week the store was open.

Yup. The key is to go the last week before they close. Selection isn't likely to be great, but the deals will be. Before that, the deals are meh, at best. Figure in the fact that all sales are final, and it's just not worth it until the very end. Reality is that going out of business sales are a legal scam.

My store in Phillipsburg NJ is on the list...... Finally after all these years they are taking the store off life support. The tool area stock in this store is "poor" at best.

I also live near the P'burg NJ store. I was last in there over 2 years ago, the clerk in the tool dept was watching homosexual **** on his phone under the counter. It was hilarious as he didn't even care I "caught" him when I went to checkout. Then like 2 mins later this Chinese couple asked him about a powerwasher that was on clearance and he told them he doesn't know anything about tools and to "look it up online."
Besides that the store is/was a total mess, all the wrenches etc and individual sockets are off the pegboard and just in heaps that you have to pick thru. Surprised this store has hung on this long.

Stopped by the P'Burg NJ sears today, which is closing down. The clerk said the liquidators start on Nov 10, and of course they put everything back to full retail & then knock off like 10% for the fools who don't understand how the game works.
They are in sort of a pre-liquidation limbo right now. The tool section at this Sears always sucked, and it's even worse now. Very few good deals. You need to price scan everything with the in-store price checker since there is no rhyme or reason to what anything might cost, since the place is such a disaster area.
All I scored was a Made in USA craftsmen pair of spark plug pliers, marked $12.99 and scanned at register for $5.50. I think they are Lisle rebranded as C'Man. Judging by the dust I think they've been there for years lol. Here is the pilers:

Was just in my local Sears. They had dismantled the gladiator display and were selling everything at quite a discount. Employee told me there was no more in the back, what you see is it. So if you need some hooks or track and can over look the nail holes there were some good deals.
The cabinets and stuff was discounted just not enough for me as I don't really have any more room. Worth a look.

Went to the White Plains, NY store today. They had the 2pc Craftsman (Knipex) Adjustable Plier set half-price ($25). There were 2 sets there. I bought one. Been looking at that set for a while but didn't want to buy it at full price. There is still one set left if anyone is in this area.

I must have missed the discounts on the new, unused stuff, because it was all gone.
They had thrown together a bunch of tracks and hooks from the display, with a single price for all of it together like a set. Did some math and realized I'd previously paid less for the items.
The fun starts when they start shifting around entire aisles, and old stuff falls out from between the cracks.
