Can I get an opinion on which of these Craftsman 20" boxes it better? They don't list gauge of steel or capacity rating or even weight for both so it's hard to compare.
Craftsman Steel Hip Roof (usually $70) on sale for $35 with $17 in points
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-handbox/p-00926596000P?rrec=true
Craftsman 20" Metal Hand Box $40 with $20 in points
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-20in...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=4&blockNo=4&blockType=G4

I care more about the box holding up than the price difference.

With that substantial difference in regular price, I would be confident that the regularly-$70 hip-roof box on sale for $35 is better quality than the regularly-$40 flat-top box not on sale. They are both recently-introduced models so I'm sure they're both made in China. It does say the capacity is slightly more on the flat box (1050 cubic inches) than the hip box (959 cubic inches). I'm guessing that difference is all in the lid area.

My hose pinch pliers finally arrived today. They are really nice. Made in the USA.

My only regret now that I have them, is that I didn't order two of them. These would be really nice to pinch off the upper and lower radiator hoses when pulling a radiator.

They are much nicer than I thought they would be. But now when I look on the Sears site they say shipping unavailable and no stock within 100 miles.

Yeah they are sweet. I got one set free awhile ago with points. Then I had Sears.com match the $5 price on the appliance and hardware store and visited an appliance and hardware and got another set there for $5 I think I'm good now with 3 sets. Except now my car buddies come over and want a set and I feel obliged to give them one since they were so cheap. My local store still has 2 sets if you can figure out how to order them at the discount I could send them to you.

3/4 Drive sockets

I bought a set 2-3 years ago and they were USA made for metric. I dont think sears ever made metric 3/4 drive in China. Looks like they are clearing them out.
36 mm
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-36-m...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

38 mm
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-38-m...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

several other sizes for those interested.

Considering the picture shows 38mm Easy read with S-AE as the code, I think that one is produced in China now...

If anyone is looking for some 3/4 drive sockets, my local Ace has (well, they had them last time I was there!) two different sets - 9-46305 (9 piece 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30mm) and 9-46306 (32, 35, 36, 38, 41 and 42mm). All old stock made in USA - they had several of each. Regular $139.99 and they were on sale for $69.99 at the time. That was months ago, and they don't seem to be selling any. Not sure if the link will work:

If anyone is looking for a set I am happy to pick them up and ship at cost.

Just to update this - I picked up all that they had and they will be in the mail to a couple of forum members this afternoon. I'll keep my eyes open in case they dig some more out of a storeroom somewhere, but for now, they are all gone.

Sears must be giving Ace all the good old USA NOS stuff because Ace is paying them promptly for the inventory... Cash that Sears badly needs...

I need to see where the nearest ACE is around here, I don't think any are close...

There are two Ace stores that I go to, one has been there 15+ years, and still has a lot of NOS Craftsman stuff (though it is slowly selling and harder to find now), the other only opened about 18 months ago and they have all China Craftsman. I think you just have to find an older Ace where people haven't snapped up all the NOS for ebay.

Stanley Black and Decker runs Craftsman outside of Sears stores. Sears does get money from their sales, but they don't make any decisions on the Craftsman brand outside of their stores.

I imagine if there are changes at Ace it is due to Stanley because Sears could obviously sell old inventory in their own stores to raise cash.

Ace Hardware stores started selling Craftsman in 2010.

Stanley B&D purchased the Craftsman brand in 2017.

(the discussion is about NOS)

Nope.... KDC makes the deals with Ace. KDC is a subsidiary of Sears Holdings...

KDC is what the Hometown stores deal with, as is all the Farm / Co-op stores...

I wonder if they are made by Waterloo, so you can get the info by emailing them.

That yellow homepage with the "FLASH SALE TODAY ONLY" made me believe I'll find some good deals today, but they're not sale prices that we haven't seen before.

True, but might be a good time to compare previous recent purchase and get that price adjustment from sears! ;)

bash_brannigan,

I'd go for one each. Do you know when you could swing by your local ACE?

Thanks,
Chris

Not unless it's on a sale at your local store that's not reflected on the Ace website, or some old US-made stock... $45 at Ace, vs at Sears...

100%. I only pay the ace premium on old USA stock and / or when they run a sale.

I am expecting two different items shipped to home, one supposed to be for tomorrow, another one late next week. Both arrived today to my surprise.

The Craftsman brand was sold off to Stanley Black and Decker. KDC was just a holding company for those extra brands Kenmore, Diehard, and Craftsman. The details seemed pretty clear that Sears would only control Craftsman within its stores (plus Hometown). Eventually, even Sears is going to have to pay Stanley money for using the Craftsman name within its' own stores.

Craftsman.com is actually operated by Stanley now and they advertise their stores as Ace Hardware, Lowes, Orchard Supply, Blains, and Atwoods.

If you've got any sources for the ACE portion of your claims, I would like to read it. It would be incredibly strange that Stanley would allow that as an ongoing deal. The whole point of that deal seemed to be about Stanley getting control of Craftsman outside of Sears.

Details are a little vague, one report said that SB&D "will assume all the sales generated by selling Craftsman-branded products through non-Sears channels."

But the original contracts were made with KDC way before SB&D ever came into the picture. Ace, Atwoods, Farm & Fleet, etc... have been selling Craftsman products for quite some time.

But right now SB&D has zero production of Craftsman products in stores... Everything you see (like those USA 3/4" sockets) are all old Sears stock. I'm sure there will eventually be a transition period when SB&D wants to get rid of the Sears made stuff and use their own. There is probably some written contract that guarantees Sears as the supplier for a certain period of time and SB&D is just paying Sears for the inventory.

I think Stanley will end up clearing out all the KDC(Sears) made stuff from those stores listed on Craftsman.com and stock their own versions. I think you're onto something on this being some sort of transition period. It might make for some good deals when they blow out inventory at those stores. Lowes isn't supposed to stock Craftsman till later this year.

Per press releases last year, the reason for the delay supposedly is Stanley building up US production for the new Craftsman products. :)

Craftsman 4 pc. 3/8" Wobble Extension Bar Set
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-4pc-wobble-extension-bar-set-3-8-inch/p-00944284000P
$24.99 regularly, $7.99 'online only' sale, can ship to store if not in stock locally

Great discount, but after finding this comparison thread, I think I'm going to go with HF's wobble set instead, eventually - HF's includes multiple lengths in 3 drive sizes, while Craftsman only has a single 1.5" length wobble in 1/4" and 1/2" now (and it doesn't look like those are even still orderable), and the lockable Craftsman wobbles sound more annoying to use than the non-locking HF wobbles, and HF's is made in Taiwan while Sears's is made in China.

I think that I read somewhere that Menards makes a compatible set, but there might be some slight modifications necessary:

https://www.menards.com/main/tools-...um-ion-cordless-combo-kit/p-1444426424447.htm

When I looked up who made all the Craftsman cordless power tool lines, I found Nextec is made by Chervon. They have worked with Bosch on some things, and acquired the Skil brand from Bosch last year, but I found no evidence of them making a compatible product for Bosch, and no mentions of anyone successfully interchanging Bosch and Nextec batteries.
thanks Guys!:rocker:

A friend could not find Nextec batteries in-store, but Sears still has them online for shipping (not free) or ship-to-store.

Craftsman 12 Volt Nextec Compact Lithium-Ion battery $19.99

spin_prod_725337601

Just a warning - I ordered a couple of these several months ago and they never shipped. Took me several calls and chat sessions to get a refund, and then only because I agreed to take points instead of an actual credit card refund. Maybe they have found some new stock?
