That Johnson level has hovered around $21 for many months, but I don't remember seeing it go completely out of stock for both store pickup and shipping.

So I tried your zip code, and got this result:

well...i keep telling myself i'm not going to get any deeper into sears owing me points. i keep telling myself that and i honestly mean it....but boy do they have me on the hook big time.

so my buddy from work bought this weedeater the other day
https://www.sears.com/a036002-57inch-26.5cc-trimmer/p-A017969301
id looked at it with him so it was on my recent views. well he bought it for $125 and a day or so later i got an email about a price drop, so i told him about, he chatted with a rep and got a $35 credit.

cool deal, its all over with i think. until they send me another email saying its dropped again. i want to help my buddy so i click the link from my email and see that the price is the same as last time. no biggie. but before i can close the window sears pops up $20 freecash on lawn and garden today only. and the thing is i need a weedeater, just didnt want to pay much for one and since lowes lets their employees cancel online orders and steal them, both me and the guy from work couldnt get in on those deals.

so anyway, i used just enough in points to get it down to $50 and now sears owes me even more than i ever wanted to get into them for. they need to make it through at least january before going bankrupt to really make me feel like i got some killer deals, but even at the prices im paying im not too unhappy with what ive got

long story short: open your sears emails and click on some links--you might be able to score some even better deals

btw...75/75, 300/300, 200/200, 50/50, 125/125 are currently what im owed. so when the next round of payments come through in october i should get ~$120 in points.

Yes, those category-specific offers have been a thing for many months; browsing Lawn & Garden or Appliances (maybe a few other big-ticket categories too) on Sears.com will usually generate one. :)

If you're getting things you really need, at prices you're comfortable with even before the extra points, that's a good excuse to take advantage of these OOP deals. All the points to spend later being just a nice extra is a good position to be in (vs 'I got a terrible deal if Sears doesn't last long enough for all those dang points to pay out').

This is a great creeper, at least it has been for me. Super comfy, and rolls smooth. I was concerned about only 4 wheels, but may like that more. I haven't seen this low since it came out for last Christmas. Not a hot buy either. $29.99

"There are now 360 Kmart stores and 506 Sears Roebuck stores in operation. In contrast, in 2005, there were about 1,600 Kmart stores and 2,300 Sears brand stores in operation."

I was picking up some stuffs at local hometown store a few days ago. One of the employee was saying something along the line of we are not going anywhere because we do not work for Sears directly. This store is independently owned.

I did not want to say anything, but if Sears closes down, then what.... I doubt they can keep operating as Sears hometown store. I just feel bad for these folks. I used to work in a company who was like this. It keep cutting employee every quarter until there is nothing to cut.

Three flagship stores in my area have all closed down in recent months with another one pending closure later this year. What really surprises me is that all of these locations are owned by Sears, themselves. Month's later, the shuttered locations do not appear to attract any interest from potential buyers.

Sears should try to convert existing stores to warehouses and pick up locations instead. They're heading in the wrong direction, really no signs of progress for them. The only progress is the rate at which they're closing down stores :lol_hitti

Amazon and Lowes are picking off where Sears left off. Should have just opened a Craftsman retail store and compete with Harbor Freight instead of letting Lowes do the rest (Lowes is also struggling in recent months, laying off hundreds of their employees).

I got the email a week or two back. I've gotten a couple questions for Queen Sized mattress (sadly, no fit in our home)

One person mentioned that (not sure if it was this thread or the SYW thread) a week or two ago, but not by name. I haven't heard of it otherwise. What would it 'pan out into' potentially?

Supposedly, there's questionnaires and depending on your answers, you can get stuff mailed out to you to review and can keep it afterwards

tl;dr free stuff?

well...the gravy train was too good to last. theyre finally closing our local sears. the only bright side is ive got enough in points per month to cover the free shipping. now to see if/when/how they change the points system to screw us out of them all.

oddly enough, our store will be closing in early december before the christmas rush. i figured theyd let it limp through to squeeze every last cent out of a liquidation sale on top of the holidays.

sears gonna sears i guess

Sears news updates:
  • Another major round of Sears headquarters layoffs today, 9/18/18. Quantity unknown so far, but it was large enough to reportedly have local police guarding the lobby today. Departments affected included HR, finance, audit, pricing, store ops, and buying.
  • The Sears in Broadway Square Mall, Tyler, TX announced on Thu Sep 13 that it will be closing by mid-December. Liquidation begins Fri Sep 21.
  • Sears store employees in Hyannis, MA were reportedly told today, Tue Sep 18, that their store will be closing Dec 9. The Cape Cod Mall announced back in April 2018 that they had plans to replace Sears with Target and ****'s Sporting Goods by 'as early as next year'. There is apparently still a Kmart located very near the mall, which will probably be short-lived with a Target close by.
  • The Sears store in Fairfield Commons Mall, Beaverton, OH is also closing in 'early December', announced in their local news today. Their liquidation sale begins on Fri Sep 21. It will be replaced by a Round1 Entertainment (similar to Dave & Buster's) and The Room Place (a furniture store).
  • As of Aug 4, as reported in the Sears quarterly report that came out last week, there were at that time 482 full-line Sears stores, 24 "specialty" stores (operated by Sears corporate, not the franchises), and 360 Kmarts. This still included stores that were already in the middle of liquidating. And on Aug 30, there were another 13 Kmart closures and 33 Sears closures announced (I posted the list at that time).
  • Sears apparently hasn't had an in-store toy section for at least a decade, but they will this year, because they bought a bunch of stuff from the Toys'R'Us liquidation. It's supposed to be put out in late October, but at least one store received the toys early and put them out weeks ago, and it's been selling well enough that there are already bare shelves. It's probably a one-shot deal with no more available for replenishment, so if you see any toys you want for your family at your store, get it while you can. Without buying from other stores' liquidations like this, they would've needed to place orders for the Christmas toy season 6 months ago.

The sears in Hyannis, MA is actually directly across the street from KMart. The sears is always empty but the KMart is always very busy.

and in case anyone is wondering, you can't choose a closing store for online pick up. i tried to google it but didnt have any luck finding anything. i figured that would be the case, but now its confirmed. also, large items such as CM tool boxes can't be picked up at a local kmart, but so far it looks like the small items can (such as socket sets etc)

Yes, once it goes into closing mode, it comes off the online pickup options. :( But note that this is not the only reason for a store to disappear from online pickup - it occasionally happens temporarily either due to the manager choosing to take the store 'offline' due to staffing issues and getting too many orders backed up, or due to system glitches. It happened to my store last fall for a couple weeks, but after a couple rounds of me bugging the employees to bug the manager to bug the corporate support people, it got fixed. (I know yours is really closing, but I periodically see people panic when a store disappears like that, thinking it's going to close when it isn't yet.)

The good news is, you CAN use any SYW points/offers/coupons loaded to your account during the store liquidation sale. Don't even ask (some employees will wrongly claim you can't), just enter your phone number when prompted and it will all still work. (There have been many reports of this working over the last couple years. Of course it could potentially change at some point, but so far so good, from what I've heard.)

I know several years ago when my then closest store closed, the liquidation company only took cash or credit. I know there was a period of time from when it was announced, to when the liquidation company took over, that you could use points/offers. I would be surprised if a liquidation would want anything to do with Monopoly points.

Hrm. As long as they're still running sales through the Sears point-of-sale system, and Sears hasn't totally disabled the SYW account feature at that store, I think it should still be possible whether the liquidator likes it or not. Employees who don't want to help you out might be able to cancel it somehow, I'm not sure.

The past mentions I've seen of people's experiences at liquidating stores are buried in massive threads, but I'll try to remember to post a quote or two the next time I see it come up on SD.

The 48in Craftsman level continues slowly working its way back to the $20 price point I'm hoping to see again soon... $24.46 today (was $28.** a few days ago when we were talking about levels, and I think it was $25.** yesterday)... but now they're saying it's ship-to-store in a week, when a few days ago it was 'available for pickup today' at my store. Maybe there's still one or two on the shelf that the website won't let you order, I know they often do that. I'm hoping to pick out my own in person when the price is right, since the 24" level I got could've been a bit better in the finish department, and a 48" has twice as much room for things to go wrong. ;)

I keep telling myself the black Johnson version is just fine and I don't "need" the Red Craftsman one for $10 more....$8 more....$5 more...errrr $4 more??? I may just bite the bullet for $4 more at this point. Also if anyone is looking at the Johnson one, Lowes has it for about $1.50 less so perhaps you can get them to price match it

Two stores near me that closed in the past 6 months both took points right through the last weekend. And the folks at the store were the same Sears employees, not temp workers from another (liquidation) company.

I'm wondering if it's location specific (different liquidation companies) or if Sears has changed the way they liquidate, maybe for a better tax write-off or to show increased cash flows in their books.

I ordered the Johnson one because it was cheaper. I received my delivery yesterday and they sent me the red craftsman one. Thought that was odd, was not expecting that. I have no idea if it was a mixup or if the particular warehouse mine came out of ran out of the johnson ones and they just substituted it without mentioning anything to me or what. No idea if they do that with other people's order, just thought i'd mention it.

Eddie’s probably figured out a way to make another buck for himself allowing the SYWR points to be used.

I think at my liquidation, the company brought their own registers in. Sears had nothing to do with the liquidation. The company that did it, brought in other merchandise from other places it seemed, as some of the stuff I never saw Sears sell before. It was in a prime location, so aggregating merch there made sense. Went in twice, and knew I'd never go back to a Sears liquidation sale. This may have been part of the very first round of larger numbers of stores closing.

If Sears registers stay, it seems it would be difficult/more trouble than it's worth to disable SYW from those closing stores.

OK, good to know. This probably varies with different liquidation companies, and how many stores they're handling at one time.

FWIW, that must be store dependent, as I can still select my local Sears store that is closing, and have recently picked up orders there, even though they are in the liquidation phase.

The really odd part, though, is that the other local store that closed maybe a year ago and is an empty vacant room now, still shows as a pickup location. However, the website won't let you order anything for pickup there, it gives an error when you try to check out.
